Ezekiel Elliott has been one of the most coveted college running backs since his impressive performance during Ohio State’s championship run in 2014. Last season, Elliott was unable to lead the Buckeyes back to the National Championship game, but he still ended up being the first running back selected in the NFL Draft. Since he was selected by the Dallas Cowboys, who are NFL expert picks to win the NFC East, Elliott has been under a lot of scrutiny as he is expected to be the next great Cowboys running back.

Despite all the hype, Elliott hasn’t played in the preseason, but that will change on Thursday, when the former Buckeye makes his preseason debut against the Seattle Seahawks.

Elliott has been eager to make his preseason debut, but he had to miss the first two preseason games while nursing a sore hamstring. The running back told reporters this week that the wait has been frustrating, but he has to look at the bigger picture and wait it out instead of doing something that could make the injury worse.

While Elliott is making his preseason debut against the Seahawks, who have one of the best defenses in the league, the rookie running back isn’t intimidated and said he will be ready to do whatever the team asks of him.

Elliott said he feels he has done a good job with the reps that have been given to him, and now that he is back on the field and getting in a groove, he is ready for whatever Seattle throws at him.

During most preseason games, coaches usually give their starters very little playing time to avoid injury and allow them to evaluate the players that are trying to make the team. However, the third preseason game is also known as the dress rehearsal, and is the one preseason game that coaches leave their starters in for the longest time during the preseason.

This means that Elliott will be facing the starting Seattle defense for most of the time he spends on the field, which will allow the Cowboys coaches and fans to see how he does against a real NFL defense.

Since Elliot is making his preseason debut, head coach Jason Garrett might not play his for as long as he would like. Garrett said he would try to figure out a way to get Elliot some touches without overworking him.

Garrett said the team typically gives running backs a few touches and throw them a few passes as well, allowing them to get used to the different things they are going to do during games, so they will be better prepared once the regular season starts. Garrett said he is still designing the plays he will have for Elliott, and will discuss them with the running back before the game on Thursday.

From what Garrett revealed to reporters, Elliott will get some significant playing time and touches early in the game, but it doesn’t appear that he will let Elliott play until halftime because it is his first preseason game and he doesn’t want him to reinjure his hamstring.

Elliott told reporters that despite the pressures associated with being a high draft pick of the Dallas Cowboys, he is excited to get out on the field and show what he can do.
