On Wednesday night in New York City, the second ever FNTSY Cup draft will take place from Rock & Reilly’s. Sure, you can read all over the internet about celebrity fantasy drafts and you’ll give it a quick look, potentially a laugh, and move on, but the FNTSY Cup is different. This league is a mix of industry experts and celebrities, that actually know what they are doing. The field is not full of just brand names to make the Cup sound cool. Rather, it is made up of legitimate fantasy players that are diehard football fans.
At the end of the season, only one celebrity or expert can #claimtheCup Along with the Cup and the pride that comes with it, the winner will receive $ 2,000 to donate to the charity of their choice (with $ 500 going to the runner-up’s charity).
So who will come out on top? We break it down.
The Favorites
Glenn Lowy (2-1)
The defending champion, Lowy is without question the favorite to repeat in 2016. Lowy is a high stakes fantasy sports player, having won hundreds of thousands of dollars playing the sport. As the current possessor of the Cup, relinquishing it is not an option for Lowy. Despite the competition being stronger this year, he believe he is the man to beat.
Chris Vaccaro (5-2)
Another high stakes player, Vaccaro has also won hundreds of thousands of dollars playing DFS. The father of the “No Running Back Theory”, Vaccaro is trying to impose his will on his competitors. Of course, this season, even the common player is trying to jump on the “no running backs” bandwagon. Will this cause Vaccaro to change his strategy? “I may just zig, since everyone else is zagging. I picked wide receivers when everyone else was prioritizing running backs. Now that the strategy is changing, my strategy may need to change too” Vaccaro told us. We’ll see just how true that statement is on Wednesday night.
Scott Engel and Adam Ronis (8-1)
The RotoExperts, Scott and Adam, finished as the runner up to Glenn Lowy last year. The morning show hosts don’t always get along, but when they do they form a tough team to beat. The question is, will they be able to get along well enough to make it all the way to the finals again? They’ve been known to have massive arguments about certain players and if this bowls over to the draft, they could be in trouble.
The Best Bets
Eric Young (12-1)
The World Class Maniac is also a maniacal fantasy football player. He disappointed in last year’s FNTSY Cup and is out for redemption here in 2016. A veteran of “celebrity leagues”, Young is trying to finally break through and take down a championship. Young, a professional wrestler, is also the person we would least want to sit next to in the draft. If we wound up sniping a pick for him, he may give us the spike piledriver. For just the fear factor, we’ll happily put a few shekels on Young.
Brandon Marianne Lee (15-1)
Brandon Marianne Lee can be found EVERYWHERE talking fantasy football. The creator of Her Fantasy Football, in a short time, Lee has established dominance in the industry. From Bleacher Report radio to Pro Football Focus, Lee’s insight is extremely detailed and without question top notch. Don’t let her friendly face confuse you; Lee is out for blood and is determined to #claimtheCup.
Adam Aizer (15-1)
The host of the Fantasy Football Today podcast on CBS Sports, Aizer is a long time fantasy wizard and he will look to work his magic on acquiring the FNTSY Cup. As an expert, Aizer has participated in ton of leagues and is excited to bring his vast amount knowledge to the Cup. However, considering it is his first season playing in the FNTSY CUP, will he able to conquer the more experienced participants?
Lisa Ann (18-1)
The host of “Lisa Ann Does Fantasy” on Sirius/XM Fantasy Sports Radio, Lisa Ann is as knowledgable as they come. Another former participant in the FNTSY Cup, Lisa Ann is also looking to avenge last year’s disappointing finish. Lisa Ann qualifies as both a celebrity and an expert and that’s a dangerous combination. A participant in the Howard Stern Celebrity League, as well as the Sirius/XM Host League, what Lisa Ann lacks in experience, she makes up in determination. She regularly challenges listeners to compete with her in DFS on her radio show and is ready to beat down on her fellow experts and celebrities on Wednesday night.
Gabe Morency (25-1)
Despite being a daily host on the Fantasy Sports Network, Gabe checks in as a relative underdog compared to this field. A loose cannon, who knows what the hell Gabe is going to say or do during the FNTSY Cup draft. His picks are going to be wild and he will be undeterred by potential criticism of his selections. Morency’s downfall could be his allegiance to the Buffalo Bills and his bets. In order to #claimtheCup, Morency’s going to have to put the FNTSY Cup before everything.
The Long Shots
New York Congressman Dean Murray (40-1)
Perhaps one of the primary reasons DFS has returned to New York, Murray will be participating in his first ever celebrity/expert league. But have no doubt, Murray’s stance on daily fantasy was not just political. He is an avid fantasy football player, both season long and daily, and is anxious to prove this fact to his constituents. Murray is ready to compete against some of the world’s experts and show that politicians are every bit as good at fantasy football, as the common folk.
Albie and Chris Manzo (50-1)
The stars of of “Manzo’d With Children”, Albie and Chris will be participating in their first FNTSY Cup. The Manzos are both experienced with 10 team leagues, but will be taking a step up in class with the Cup’s 12 participants. Albie told us earlier today that he is biased against Jets players, as well as trying to stay away from the Giants players due to his fandom. Will this lack objectivity cause the Manzos to fall in their first chance at claiming the cup? How will the reality stars react when they are dealing in fantasy?
Keith Bulluck (75-1)
The former NFL star linebacker, Bulluck is the only participant who brings actual real-world football experience to the draft. He knows the ins and outs of the league and will no doubt use that to his advantage. To have first hand insider info on what goes on inside a locker room, could be the difference maker Bulluck needs to overcome his lack of experience. The former Fantasy Sports Network host learned a large amount in a short time last season and there’s no doubt he will use that knowledge to try and overcome the odds this year.
Kelly AuCoin(100-1)
The reason AuCoin is ranked so low is due to the unknown. AuCoin’s fantasy expertise is the major question mark, but there is certainly a chance for him to take the league by storm. An avid listener to Adam Aizer’s podcast (back to the Nando Di Fino days!), AuCoin comes in fresh off his role of “Dollar” Bill in “Billions” and Pastor Tim in “The Americans”. Unfortunately, there will be no acting Wednesday night, as AuCoin will have to show off what Aizer has taught him. Can the fan take down the expert host?
