David Ortiz is winding down what he maintains will be his final season in Major League Baseball, and he’s offering more evidence to back his retirement reasoning.

Ortiz admitted Sunday that he’s wearing down over the long season and has been so busy that he hasn’t been able to enjoy things as much as he’d like.

“Very busy. Kind of tired of it, a little worn out,” Ortiz told The Associated Press on Sunday. “My job is kind of tiring. Adding more things to it is a lot. … I’m really busy and not getting to enjoy things.”

Ortiz has a lengthy regimen he has to go through to play each night, though he downplayed it.

“I have to get lined up to different things and I try to be here very early so I’m not in anybody’s way,” he said. “Everybody has to do things and get ready. It’s not just David Ortiz.”

Ortiz has said that the attention he’s received has actually detracted from his farewell season. It sounds like he’s simply worn out. It’s likely a big reason why he won’t reconsider his retirement decision no matter how well he keeps performing.

Red Sox felt David Ortiz bobblehead was ‘racially insensitive’

The Boston Red Sox were supposed to give away David Ortiz bobbleheads to fans at Fenway Park Tuesday night, but the team cancelled the promotion because it felt the collector’s items portrayed Big Papi in a “racially insensitive” manner.

After the Red Sox put out a press release labeling the bobbleheads “unacceptable” and informing fans they will receive a different one at a later date, team president Sam Kennedy told Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe that the 15,000 bobbleheads will be returned to the manufacturer.

“It was an inaccurate portrayal of David,” Kennedy said. “It doesn’t really look like David. No. 2, I personally thought it seemed to be an offensive portrayal of him and racially insensitive.

“If I was feeling this way, certainly other people would. So we pulled the plug.”

Not surprisingly, Ortiz was not flattered by the way he was portrayed.

The bobbleheads certainly looked nothing like Big Papi, as you can see in this photo. Handing them out would have been a huge mistake, so the Red Sox made the right choice.
