The Houston Texans finished out the preseason with a road victory over the Dallas Cowboys. It was mostly a battle of reserve players as both teams rested their starters.

Dak Prescott watched the game from the sidelines as the Cowboys could not afford to lose another quarterback in the preseason. Jameill Showers got the start for the Cowboys but failed to take advantage of the opportunity. Showers finished the game 10-of-25 for 91 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

Tom Savage got the start at quarterback for the Texans. Savage went 12-of-18 for 119 yards and one touchdown. Brandon Weeden was 9-of-13 for 116 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Akeem Hunt was the star of the game with both a rushing and receiving touchdown. The running back showed versatility with 44 rushing yards and 27 receiving yards.

To start out the regular season, the Texans host the Bears while the Cowboys host the Giants next Sunday.

Here’s how the game played out.

Rookie Running Back Darius Jackson Scored the First Touchdown for the Cowboys





Showers got the start for the Cowboys as they rested their starters. Showers connected with rookie running back Darius Jackson on a short pass for an 18-yard touchdown. Jackson played at Eastern Michigan and was selected in the final rounds of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Jameill Showers Gave Up a Fumble in the Second Quarter


After leading a successful scoring drive in the first quarter, Showers made a costly turnover deep inside Cowboys territory to give the Texans great field position. The Texans were able to convert on fourth and goal for a touchdown.

Brandon Weeden Connected With Keith Mumphery for a 64-Yard Touchdown





After Tom Savage got the start for the Texans, Brandon Weeden came in and wasted little time making an impact. As the pass rush collapsed on Weeden, he threw a deep pass to Keith Mumphery who went up and got the football. Mumphery alluded defenders on his way to complete the 64-yard touchdown. The play occurred with just over a minute left in the second quarter. Dallas was able to respond with a quick drive for a field goal to bring it to 14-10 in favor of the Texans.

Akeem Hunt Scored His Second Touchdown of the Game for the Texans





Early in the third quarter, Savage connected with Hunt on a short pass, and Hunt took it the distance. It marked Hunt’s second touchdown of the game and gave the Texans a 21-10 lead.

Anthony Brown Came Up With a Pick-6 for the Cowboys





Rookie cornerback Anthony Brown intercepted Brandon Weeden in the third quarter and returned it 59 yards for the touchdown. The score brought the Cowboys within four points of the Texans.

Antonio Allen Responded With a Pick-6 of His Own





Showers and the Cowboys were in their own endzone with time winding down in the fourth quarter. Texans safety Antonio Allen made a spectacular interception and ran it back for a touchdown. The interception iced the win for the Texans.
