Justin Blackmon sentenced in DUI case

Justin Blackmon was sentenced in an Oklahoma court on Wednesday for his DUI arrest in Dec. 2015.

Blackmon, who is still under contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, received a one-year suspended sentence and probation, according to the Tulsa World’s Mark Cooper. Action News Jacksonville says the sentence involves 100 hours of community service and a year of district attorney supervision.

Blackmon and a friend were pulled over last December because of a brake light that wasn’t working, and an officer asked if they had been drinking. Blackmon admitted to drinking but said he’d only had two drinks. The officer said Blackmon’s speech was slurred and that he smelled of alcohol. The former wide receiver failed field sobriety tests.

This is Blackmon’s third alcohol-related arrest and fourth possession arrest.

In 2010, he was arrested on a misdemeanor DUI charge that was reduced to an underage possession charge. In 2012, just after being drafted by the Jaguars out of Oklahoma State, Blackmon was arrested for DUI. Then in 2014 he pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge.

Blackmon pleaded guilty to the DUI in April.

A former first-round pick, Blackmon caught 93 passes for 1,280 yards and six touchdowns in 20 NFL games. He has not played since 2013 and has violated the league’s substance abuse policy twice. Blackmon reportedly was denied reinstatement by the league last year.

Montee Ball sentenced to 60 days in jail for domestic abuse incidents

A once-promising NFL player who dominated at the college level, Montee Ball is now heading to jail.

Ball pleaded guilty on Thursday to two charges of disorderly conduct and one charge of battery stemming from his involvement in two separate domestic abuse incidents with two different women. The 25-year-old was sentenced to 60 days in jail and 18 months probation, according to the Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel.

In February, Ball was charged with battery and disorderly conduct after his girlfriend told police the former Denver Bronco threw her across the room during an argument and struck her in the face during a previous incident. Just over a month later, Ball was charged with strangulation and suffocation and substantial battery — both felonies — after his ex-girlfriend said she had also been assaulted back in 2014.

Ball was most recently with the New England Patriots as a practice squad player but was released over the winter following his arrest.
