Andy Reid confirms Jamaal Charles is ‘probably not going to play’ in Week 1

The Kansas City Chiefs now look all but certain to be without their all-time leading rusher in Sunday’s season opener against the San Diego Chargers.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said on Friday that All-Pro running back Jamaal Charles is doubtful for Week 1 and is “probably not going to play,” per Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star.

This is consistent with what the Chiefs have been saying in recent days about the availability of the 29-year-old Charles, who is working his way back from his second ACL tear in four years.

Charles rushed for 364 yards and four touchdowns last season before going down in Week 5. Now past his prime and coming off a second major knee injury, it will be tough for the four-time Pro Bowler to reclaim his stranglehold on the Kansas City rushing game, especially with Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware looking poised to fight for bigger roles and Knile Davis ready to pick up the scraps.

Charles Barkley Ignored Doctor’s Orders to Visit Craig Sager in Hospital

Charles Barkley wasn’t cleared to travel after undergoing hip replacement surgery less than a month ago, but that wasn’t going to stop him from visiting his co-worker and friend Craig Sager in the hospital earlier this week.

Sir Charles hopped on a plane after learning that Sager’s wife, Stacy, had a severe cold and had to leave her husband’s side for a few days.

Barkley is blown away by Sager’s positive attitude in his battle with cancer.

Per the AP:

However, Sir Charles had hip replacement surgery less than a month ago and wasn’t cleared to travel. He said his doctor was livid when he learned Barkley had defied orders and flown halfway across the country. Barkley informed the doctor that it was an emergency.

 

“Craig Sager is one of the most interesting people I’ve ever met,” Barkley said. “We go to see Sager to cheer him up and by the time you leave you’re like, ‘Is anything wrong with him?’ He has the most positive attitude … When you go to try and cheer him up his attitude is so upbeat he cheers you up.”

 

Sager found inspiration in a girl who lost her fight with cancer before her ninth birthday. He befriended Lacey Holsworth and her family while working on a story about her illness and remained friends with her parents after she died in April 2014. Holsworth had cheered on the Michigan State basketball team and had a close friendship with star Adreian Payne. […] “(Her parents) brought me little Lacey’s boots that she used to always wear to games and a picture of her wearing them,” said Sager, clutching the high-top cheetah footwear with laces made from silk ribbons. “That little girl was so amazing. Fought for all of those years, was always positive, always cheerful, always brought other people’s spirits up. So if I’m laying here feeling bad, I just think about Lacey and it puts everything in perspective.”

Charles Barkley has funny comment about Ryan Lochte incident

Never could we have imagined the Ryan Lochte robbery situation getting this out of control, but here we are. Why not share Charles Barkley’s thoughts on the incident since we’ve come this far?

In an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show” Thursday, Barkley described being famous as a great thing “two out of three times.” Allow him to explain:

Amen, Chuck.

Granted, we really don’t know how stupid whatever Lochte did is at this point. The story has morphed so much over the past several days that it’s hard to keep up. After Lochte initially said he and three U.S. swimming teammates were robbed at gunpoint, we learned that there was some sort of incident at a gas station in which the four swimmers may have vandalized property.
