Report: Growing Optimism Chris Bosh Will Be Cleared To Play By Heat

http://www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/chris-bosh-1.jpg

Despite concerns regarding his health after blood clots sidelined him for the majority of the last two seasons, Chris Bosh has been adamant that he wants to play. Bosh has been visible with his workouts on social media and now there is a report of growing optimism that the two-time NBA champ will be cleared to play by the Heat organization.

From the Miami Herald‘s Barry Jackson

There is growing optimism about Chris Bosh being cleared by the Heat to resume his career while remaining on blood thinners, according to a union source.

Bosh pitched the Heat on playing late last season, while taking a new form of blood thinner that would be out of his system in eight hours or so. The Heat resisted that approach at that time but is now more open than it had been to Bosh playing while on blood thinners, according to the source.

Bosh wouldn’t be the first athlete to do that: Former Florida Panthers player Tomas Fleischmann takes anticoagulant injections after games that are out of his system by game time.

Whether Bosh would be able to play in every game, such as the second set of back-to-backs, remains to be seen.

But barring a setback in the next few weeks, it would be surprising if Bosh isn’t cleared to play.

Odell Beckham, Dez Bryant play catch before facing off (Video)

There is clearly mutual respect between Odell Beckham Jr. and Dez Bryant.

The two star receivers played a bit of catch before the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys faced off on Sunday.

Unsurprisingly, there are no drops here. These two are way too good for that. Now, will anyone be upset that Beckham avoided contact here? Either way, it’ll be fun to watch these two, and we’ll see who ends up having the better overall season when all is said and done.

Andy Reid confirms Jamaal Charles is ‘probably not going to play’ in Week 1

http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Jamaal-Charles.jpg?fit=600%2C375

Jamaal-Charles

The Kansas City Chiefs now look all but certain to be without their all-time leading rusher in Sunday’s season opener against the San Diego Chargers.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said on Friday that All-Pro running back Jamaal Charles is doubtful for Week 1 and is “probably not going to play,” per Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star.

This is consistent with what the Chiefs have been saying in recent days about the availability of the 29-year-old Charles, who is working his way back from his second ACL tear in four years.

Charles rushed for 364 yards and four touchdowns last season before going down in Week 5. Now past his prime and coming off a second major knee injury, it will be tough for the four-time Pro Bowler to reclaim his stranglehold on the Kansas City rushing game, especially with Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware looking poised to fight for bigger roles and Knile Davis ready to pick up the scraps.

United and City make Manchester power play

http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/8e66e34c793ac3f22764bd78bca4e51ddd9592a8-768x564.jpg?fit=640%2C470

Manchester (United Kingdom) (AFP) – Featuring the rekindling of Pep Guardiola’s rivalry with Jose Mourinho, an all-star supporting cast and a host of tantalising sub-plots, Saturday’s Manchester derby could be the most feverishly anticipated ever.

The two clubs have competed on an even footing since around 2010, two years after Manchester City’s acquisition by the Abu Dhabi United Group, but they have never hogged the limelight quite so selfishly.

Both have boosted their ranks with big-money signings, both have won their first three games and both see Saturday’s match as an opportunity to stake an early claim for the Premier League title.

“We can sense the expectation all around the city from our supporters,” says City’s German winger Leroy Sane.

“I’ve played in derby games in Germany, but this should be a great match and one I’m really looking forward to, especially because Pep Guardiola is taking on Jose Mourinho.

“It’s going to be exciting and I hope I can play some part and help us bring back three points.”

The Premier League trophy spent four consecutive years in Manchester between 2011 and 2014, Manchester United winning it in 2011 and 2013 and City in 2012 and 2014.

But the Manchester clubs could not match Chelsea’s pace in 2015 and fell off the title map altogether last season, prompting seismic managerial changes on both sides of town.

Guardiola and Mourinho are two of the three best-paid managers in world football — along with Carlo Ancelotti, Guardiola’s successor at Bayern Munich — and they were quick to get to work.

Both have renovated their squads in pointed fashion. Both have hit the ground running.

Up to five City players could get their first experience of the derby at the same time as Guardiola.

Among them, close-season signings Sane and Ilkay Gundogan are now fit, while goalkeeper Claudio Bravo could make his first appearance since arriving from Barcelona to supplant Joe Hart.

Captain Vincent Kompany and right-back Bacary Sagna are also at Guardiola’s disposal after groin and hamstring injuries respectively.

– Rashford raring to go –

But the City manager will go into his first meeting with former Real Madrid nemesis Mourino since 2013 without Sergio Aguero.

The Argentina star, scorer of eight derby goals, is suspended after elbowing West Ham United’s Winston Reid, which could yield a starting berth for teenage Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho.

United, the hosts, are set to offer a first taste of derby action to Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and world-record signing Paul Pogba.

It will be Pogba’s first major test since his 89 million pounds ($ 118.4 million, 105 million euros) return from Juventus, while Ibrahimovic will relish coming up against Guardiola again.

The pair clashed during the Swedish striker’s time at Barcelona, Ibrahimovic describing Guardiola as a “spineless coward” in his autobiography.

Left-back Luke Shaw and midfielder Marouane Fellaini are both due to play despite injury scares on international duty.

However, Henrikh Mkhitaryan — another high-profile recruit — is a doubt with a thigh problem.

The combined value of the two starting XIs is expected to be in the region of 600 million pounds, but a player occupying the thoughts of United’s supporters ahead of the game did not cost a penny.

Marcus Rashford settled the most recent derby, earning United a 1-0 win at the Etihad Stadium in March, and rose from the bench to net a stoppage-time winner at Hull City on their last outing.

Having also notched a hat-trick on his England Under-21s debut against Norway in mid-week, the 18-year-old academy graduate is advancing a strong case for a place in Mourinho’s team.

“Marcus will get opportunities in the first team because he’s that good,” Nicky Butt, head of coaching at the United academy, told The Times.

“Lee Sharpe was the best player in the country as a youngster, but you couldn’t hold Ryan Giggs back much longer.

“If Marcus keeps doing what he’s doing with his pace and directness, it’s impossible to hold him back.”

Joey Bosa will not play in Week 1 for Chargers

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/joey-bosa-chargers.jpg?fit=600%2C398

Joey Bosa Chargers

Joey Bosa’s lengthy holdout will apparently cost him at least one game this season.

The San Diego Chargers first-round pick did not practice again on Wednesday and still has not appeared in pads with his team since signing his four-year deal.

The Mighty 1090’s Marty Caswell quoted Bosa as saying he was frustrated that he wouldn’t be playing on Sunday in the team’s season-opening game against the Chiefs.

Earlier in the day, the Union-Tribune’s Michael Gehlken said it was “all but certain” Bosa would miss the game.

Bosa was the longest holdout among all rookies this season. The No. 3 overall pick out of Ohio State did not sign his rookie deal until Aug. 29. He has been battling tightness since joining the team.

Report: Chris Bosh wants to play, working on solution with Heat

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/chris-bosh.jpg?fit=536%2C352

Chris Bosh

Chris Bosh has still not been cleared to play by the Miami Heat, but it sounds like the two sides are finally inching closer to a solution.

Bosh, whose season ended prematurely due to another blood clot scare, has been taking blood thinning medication. The Heat do not want him taking the court while he’s still on the medication, as that would increase the risk of serious — and potentially fatal — injuries. Bosh wants to play, and a situation has been discussed where he could take blood thinners that would be out of his system by the time each game tips off.

According to Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald, Bosh and the Heat are working on “potential solutions.”

Discussions remain focused on the Heat’s comfort level with Bosh taking new thinners that would be out of his system within eight hours or so, and ways for him to play while taking those type of thinners, according to an NBA-employed source.

The Heat is working on potential solutions and has said it would like to try to get him back on the court. Bosh very much wants to play and intends to (according to his wife). He still needs to be cleared by the Heat, and there will be some level of uncertainty until that happens. But the Heat is working on a solution, which has led to some optimism.

Bosh has made it clear through videos he posted on social media (watch them here) that he feels ready to return. For a while, it seemed like the Heat were never going to clear Bosh and were trying to force him into retirement. That talk has cooled for the time being.

Rangers manager forcing coach to leave team to watch son play QB for Texas

Shane Buechele pass

One of the Texas Rangers’ coaches is being forced to take a leave … but it’s actually for a good reason.

Rangers manager Jeff Banister is insisting his bench coach Steve Buechele leave the team on Sunday to go watch his son, Shane, make his college debut as a true freshman quarterback for Texas.

“If he’s still here, I might walk out and tell the umpires to throw him out,” Banister said of Buechele, according to the Dallas Morning News’ Gerry Fraley.

Longhorns head coach Charlie Strong has not publicly named a starting quarterback, but all signs — including Banister’s decree — point to Shane Buechele starting Sunday night against Notre Dame.

Shane Buechele threw for 73 touchdowns and rushed for 21 scores during his high school career at Lamar High in Arlington. He played brilliantly in the spring game in April, which put him on track to claim the starting job for the Longhorns.

Wilkerson, Forte Expected to Play

http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Muhammad-Wilkerson.jpg?fit=640%2C478
Muhammad Wilkerson

The Jets will play the Giants this Saturday, Snoopy Bowl is here. Wins and losses in the preseason are meaningless, but the 3rd preseason game is often called the final dress rehearsal. Starters don’t typically play in week four so this is the final tune up. Head coach Todd Bowles disagrees and says it isn’t a dress rehearsal.

Nothing other than getting chemistry together. It’s not a dress rehearsal because the regular season is 10 times more amped up than this. It’s a completely different deal, but you do want to develop some chemistry as you play your guys longer because they play shorter amounts of time in the other two games. You do want to see some chemistry and some cohesiveness.

Matt Forte and Muhammad Wilkerson are both expected to play against the Giants. Bowles said he really wants to get Forte on the field this way week one isn’t his first appearance of the year. Barring any setbacks they will both play on Saturday night.

Other Injury Updates
Jace (Amaro) didn’t practice and Kyle Williams didn’t practice. Obviously, (Jordan) Jenkins didn’t practice. (Kenbrell) Thompkins didn’t practice. Off the top of my head, those are the same guys that hadn’t practiced the other day.

Quincy Enunwa is still going through (the concussion protocol).

Jordan Jenkins
Right now it’s day-to-day and week-to-week. If he doesn’t practice by tomorrow or the next two days, it could impact it. I’ve seen strains go on for a couple weeks. I’ve seen them go on for a couple days.me cohesiveness.

Tony Parker reiterates desire to play five more years with the Spurs

http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/tony-parker-san-antonio-spurs.jpg?fit=600%2C444

tony-parker-san-antonio-spurs

Tony Parker’s illustrious international basketball career may be over, but he sees his time with the San Antonio Spurs continuing for significantly longer.

Parker, who announced his retirement from the French national basketball team after they lost to Spain in the Olympic quarterfinal on Wednesday, told Jeff Zillgitt of USA TODAY Sports that he still wants to play five more years with the Spurs.

“We brought French basketball on the map,” Parker said. “As a French player I’m very proud of what we did in my generation, winning all those medals. Especially in 2013, that’ll be my favorite moment because that was the first time in French basketball history we won a gold medal.

“I want to end my Spurs career on a high note,” Parker continued. “I want to play five more years.”

The 34-year-old Parker, who has expressed this desire before, was still productive for San Antonio in 2015-16 with averages of 11.9 points per game and 5.3 assists per game. But his age-related decline has become apparent in recent seasons, especially when juxtaposed with his freewheeling, up-tempo style of play from years past.

But fortunately, the Spurs no longer need Parker to be that guy with LaMarcus Aldridge in town and Kawhi Leonard fully embracing a primary offensive role. Using his basketball IQ and craftiness alone, Parker does indeed have what it takes to continue to survive in the league for several more seasons.

The six-time All-Star only has two years remaining on his deal, and the dominoes may have been expected to fall quickly with Tim Duncan retired and Manu Ginobili believed to be entering his last year in the NBA. But if Parker gets his way, we’ll still be seeing him slithering around screens and breaking down defenses with his dribble for a long time to come.

Gary Sheffield believes Tim Tebow can play in MLB

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/tim-tebow-eagles.jpg?fit=510%2C353

Tim Tebow Eagles

Tim Tebow is pursuing a career in professional baseball, and one former MLB player can see it happening.

Gary Sheffield, who played more than 20 years in the big leagues and made nine All-Star Game appearances, said Tuesday that he believes Tebow can make it at the highest level.

No one would question Tebow’s work ethic, but he has not played competitive baseball since he was in high school more than 10 years ago. The former Florida Gators star will turn 29 later this month, so it’s not like he has much time to make an impression, either.

Many people believe Tebow can do anything he puts his mind to, but the other career avenue he expressed interest in probably makes more sense than professional baseball. In all likelihood, the only chance Tebow has is a minor league team looking to create a buzz by signing him. Actually, one has already made an offer:

An MLB career this late in the game would be almost impossible, regardless of endorsements from Sheffield or anyone else.

Report: Lance Stephenson may have to play overseas next season

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/lance-stephenson-bobblehead.jpg?fit=600%2C602

lance-stephenson-bobblehead

It was not that long ago that Lance Stephenson was an in-demand NBA player. Now, he may have to turn to Europe to find a job.

According to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe, Stephenson may have to play overseas in 2016-17, as he is garnering little interest from NBA teams.

Stephenson has value on the court, as he averaged 15 points and 5.9 rebounds per game between the Clippers and Grizzlies last season. There is speculation, though, that his personality may be turning potentially interested teams off. It’s speculation that Stephenson has tried to dispel in the past, but he hasn’t entirely shaken the reputation.

Stephenson had a $ 9.4 million option declined by Memphis at the start of the offseason. It seemed likely that he’d get another deal elsewhere for less, perhaps even from the Grizzlies, but with the calendar flipping to August, Stephenson is still unemployed.

Metta World Peace expects to play in NBA next season

http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/metta-world-peace-lakers.jpg?fit=580%2C374

Metta World Peace Lakers

Metta World Peace is not done with his NBA career. In fact, he thinks he could still be a key contributor for the right team.

“Absolutely. The NBA is always on the front burner,” World Peace told ESPN’s Ian Begley when asked if he still intended to play next season.

World Peace said he’s still waiting to hear from teams, but he takes it personally when people think he can’t still play.

“I’m waiting for teams. I can still play,” World Peace said. “I can play, it’s not even a question man. But, you know, sometimes you don’t get in the game, man. What are you going to do? I’m not going to be upset, I’m going to support. So if I don’t play, like this year on the Lakers I could have averaged 15 or 20 on the Lakers if I played, easily. But you know, I’ll be supportive [if I don’t play]. But the only thing that gets me frustrated with the whole basketball is people think I can’t play anymore. So as a man, I take that personally.”

World Peace’s assessment of his scoring punch seems a bit optimistic, but hey, good to see he’s not lacking in confidence. He never has been. It remains to be seen where he’ll latch on this season, if he even can.

Metta World Peace: ‘I Can Still Play’

http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/metta.jpg?fit=640%2C360

Free agent forward Metta World Peace says he still has plenty left in his basketball tank.

MWP, 36, isn’t ready to transition into coaching just yet.

The veteran bruiser claims that, had he not been glued to the bench, he could have put up big numbers in Los Angeles last season.

Per ESPN:

Q: What are your plans for next season? Are you headed back to training camp with the Lakers? You’ve talked about a potential future in coaching. Is that on your radar?

MWP: “Right now, I’m life coaching a lot of people that are in the NBA. I can’t say [who]. But I coach a couple players. But it’s not a thing where I’m going to hide and be that perfect mentor. I just give them the best advice I can and live my life accordingly. I’m doing that now and one day I would love to coach. The Lakers are tattooed in my heart. They gave me a second chance when everyone was down on me, they gave me a chance to win a ring. The city of Los Angeles, they put up with me. Because in our world, the world of corporate basketball, you should act accordingly, you know? And I don’t like to act accordingly (smiles). I’m just trying to be authentic. I’m trying, as much as possible, to keep that if I coach one day.”

Q: Are you talking with teams right now?

MWP. “I’m waiting for teams. I can still play. I can play, it’s not even a question man. So as a man, I take that personally. But at the same time I’m able to still focus on making sure Julius Randle is doing his thing, and he’s focused, making sure I can give back. But when the season’s over, then I like to explain that I can play, and I can bust people’s ass. But the fans have to understand, it’s not up to me. It’s so frustrating to keep hearing it from the fans. ‘Come back to New York, come to Chicago. Why didn’t you play.’ It’s so frustrating at times.”

Amar’e Stoudemire to play for Hapoel Jerusalem

Last week, Amar’e Stoudemire announced his retirement from the NBA after signing a one-day contract with the Knicks. Soon, the 33-year-old will continue his playing days overseas.

On Monday, Stoudemire announced he will play for Hapoel Jerusalem in Israel, a team he had been part owner of. Stoudemire posted a photo of himself holding a No. 1 jersey, and declaring this his next chapter, to his Instagram account.

The children of Israel, is coming back to Israel !! Next Chapter. 🇺🇸🇮🇱 @jerusalembasket. The 1st Owner and Player in history. 🙏🏾

A photo posted by (əˈ•mär•ray) Amar"e Stoudemire (@amareisreal) on Aug 1, 2016 at 11:12am PDT

Stoudemire also wrote a post for The Players’ Tribune that was published Monday. In it he said this isn’t just about playing basketball, but also helping him become a better person.

I may be retiring from the NBA, but I’m not saying goodbye to basketball just yet. My next step is playing for Hapoel Jerusalem, one of the top teams in Europe. This isn’t about collecting a paycheck overseas, though; it’s a spiritual journey, too.

The Scripture speaks about Jerusalem as a holy place, and I can feel that whenever I’m in the city. This is a chance for me to be a better husband and a better father, to help me lead my family into righteousness. The opportunity to play there, and grow as a player and person, is a blessing.

Hapoel Jerusalem won its first Israeli Basketball Premier League championship in 2015 and finished as runners-up for the 2015-2016 season.

Diamondbacks score run on bizarre play (Video)

During Sunday’s game between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks, Arizona scored their second run on a play you likely won’t see again anytime soon.

In the top of the fourth inning, Ross Stripling delivered a pitch that bounced before reaching catcher Yasmani Grandal. The ball ricocheted up and hit Grandal’s face mask, then dropped and got wedged between his body and chest protector.

Your browser does not support iframes.

The play was ruled a wild pitch, resulting in David Peralta advancing from first base to second base and Jake Lamb being allowed to cross home plate from third base.

The Diamondbacks would score twice in the inning to take a 3-0 lead. However, the Dodgers stormed back to win 14-3. Grandal hit his 15th home run of the season in the sixth inning to add an exclamation point to an eventful afternoon.

Last week, Amar’e Stoudemire announced his retirement from the NBA but that doesn’t mean he’s done playing for good.

Reports are circulating that STAT will join Hapoel Jerusalem in Israel. Stoudemire is part owner of the team. Amar’e is holding a press conference in New York tomorrow (August 1) and is expected to officially announce the decision.

In 2014, the 14-year NBA vet told the New York Post that “it would be great” to play in Israel after he’s done in the League. ““We’ll see,’’ he said. “You can’t rule anything out. The future is unknown and so if I have an opportunity to [play in Israel] and am still in great health, it would be great. I have one more year left on my deal and we’ll go from there.’’

The big man identifies as “culturally Jewish” and observes Jewish holidays. He has spent time in Israel in the past.

More from David Pick and the Jerusalem Post

Hapoel Jerusalem is confident of signing Stoudemire, who has an ownership stake in the club since the summer of 2013. The 33-year-old forward has said in the past that it would be “great” to play for Jerusalem and Hapoel owner Ori Allon has always hoped he could convince him to come to Israel.

Stoudemire claims he has Jewish roots on his mother’s side and has visited Israel in the past. He is set to arrive in the country once more next week as part of the joint initiative between the Omri Casspi Foundation and NBA Cares, the league’s global community outreach initiative, aimed at presenting Israel in a positive light across the world. Jerusalem is hoping to make the most of the opportunity and officially unveil Stoudemire while he’s in the country.
