Sam Foltz

A truly trying summer got even worse for the Sam Foltz family as they were targeted by thieves this weekend.

KLKN reports that Jordan Foltz’s home was targeted by thieves while Foltz and his family were in Lincoln to watch Nebraska play and honor his late brother, Sam.

The Greeley County Sheriff says thieves stole a TV and tools out of a car — losses that amounted to at least $ 1,400. The crime happened at some point while Foltz and his family left their home around noon Saturday and returned around 3:00 am Sunday.

Sam Foltz was Nebraska’s highly successful punter who died in a car crash in July. The Cornhuskers honored Sam during their season-opening game against Fresno State in multiple ways, including this 10-man formation on their first punt.

Jordan Foltz posted a note on Facebook about the theft and called the people who committed the crime “creeps.”

These past few weeks have been some of the most hard, tiring, emotional and trying times I’ve ever ran up against in my thirty years on this earth as I lost a friend a role model and most importantly a brother. And tonight as we celebrated and mourned my brother for all he accomplished in his career as a Person a Nebraskan and a Husker in Lincoln some [edited] was back here in our home town breaking into my house and my vehicles probably seeing our family as a easy target as we were all in Lincoln. So if you seen any vehicles around my house/driveway that would have been there after dark or during and after the game please let us know. We lost a insignia flat screen tv right out of our living room and blue point and snap on tools out of my jeep outside. I hope as a group we can find theses creeps!”

Dansby Swanson’s family missed his biggest phone call

Dansby-Swanson

Like most other young minor league baseball players, Dansby Swanson couldn’t wait to call his parents and give them the life-changing news when the Atlanta Braves called him up to the big leagues on Wednesday. The call, however, did not go as he envisioned.

Why? Because no one answered.

In a recent interview with Cory McCartney of FOX Sports, Dansby revealed that he was unable to get in contact with his mother, father or sister after getting “the call” from the Braves. Swanson admitted that he probably should have called his brother next, but he was too steamed.

“I was mad at my family for not answering,” he said. “Called my agent and then my mom texted me and she’s like ‘Hey, honey. I’m at church doing some community service.’ I’m like ‘Mom, pick up your phone right now and call me."”

As we learned on the Braves broadcast Thursday night, Swanson’s father missed the call because he was at Costco. It sounds like the Swansons are a pretty average family.

Of course, Swanson did track down his loved ones eventually. When he arrived home at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday (he lives just 30 minutes from Atlanta), Swanson’s dad was waiting up on the couch and told the 22-year-old it was like waiting for him to get home on prom night all over again.

When asked what he said to his parents, Swanson said he surprised himself with how emotional he was and that he couldn’t say it again.

Swanson had two hits in his MLB debut Wednesday. He went 0-for-4 on Thursday, but Braves fans have already been showering the hometown boy with praise. Considering the trade Atlanta pulled off to acquire the young infielder, it’s no surprise the fans have already taken to Swanson.

Enes Kanter’s family reportedly disowned him over political views

Enes Kanter Thunder

Enes Kanter has opened himself up for a great deal of criticism by sharing his views on politics in his native country of Turkey. That apparently is not limited to fans who know him as an NBA player, as Kanter’s family is also said to have disowned him.

A story from Seyma Eraz and Yunus Paksoy of Daily Sabah explains how members of Kanter’s family turned their backs on the Oklahoma City Thunder center after he criticized Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan. That includes Kanter’s father Mehmet, who recently wrote a letter apologizing for his son’s views on the Turkish government.

“I apologize to the Turkish people and the president for having such a son,” Mehmet wrote. “His statements and behavior trouble our family. I told Enes that we would disown him should he not change his course. He did not care. … I would not have taken Enes to the U.S. for the basketball camp where his talent was discovered had I known that it would come to this point.”

Mehmet believes Enes has been “hypnotized” by the Gülenist Terror Organization (FETÖ). Mehmet’s cousin Bilal expressed the same opinion.

“We had warned (Enes) previously about his ties with the FETÖ,” Bilal said. “We have not been able to reach out to Enes for a long time.”

Kanter spoke out against Ergodan following a terrorist bombing that killed 37 people in Turkey back in March. He criticized the nation for blocking access to social media and filtering the information people receive, and Kanter’s tweets led to death threats. Last year, Kanter said he believed he was left off Turkey’s 2015 Eurobasket team because of his political views.

Many of us have grown to appreciate Kanter’s sense of humor based on his hilarious tweets. Despite his fun-loving personality, it would appear Kanter has a lot of personal issues he deals with off the court.
