Zach Ertz could reportedly miss extended time with rib injury

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/zach-ertz.jpg?fit=560%2C375

zach-ertz

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz showed some nice chemistry with Carson Wentz, catching six passes for 58 yards in a Week 1 victory over the Cleveland Browns. Unfortunately, the team might be without his services for the foreseeable future.

According to a report by Zach Berman of the Philadelphia Inquirer on Tuesday, Ertz could miss “an extended period” after suffering a displacement of the first rib on his left side in Sunday’s win.

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson is calling Ertz “week-to-week” and said that, while the 25-year-old did not suffer a fracture, his rib displaced itself under the collarbone.

Ertz got a five-year extension from the team just last January, which makes the timing of the injury even worse. Veteran Brent Celek and special teams cog Trey Burton are the next men up at the tight end position. Though both are stronger blockers, they’ll likely have a difficult time replicating Ertz’s production as a pass-catcher.

Defensive coaches reportedly found Chip Kelly offense ‘easiest’ to prepare for

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/chip-kelly.jpg?fit=570%2C390

Chip Kelly

Chip Kelly’s revolutionary offense apparently isn’t so revolutionary to the coaches tasked with preparing for it.

Chris B. Brown of the Ringer went in-depth on Kelly’s NFL offense and dissected how predictable and unoriginal it became in his final season in Philadelphia. Adam Caplan of ESPN went a step further when sharing the story, offering up a tidbit that no offensive coach would ever want to hear.

Kelly’s offense doesn’t seem to have evolved. Defenses don’t respect his quarterbacks as threats on the ground an gear up to stuff the run game, and they lack creativity and adaptability. We got a hint of this lack of flexibility in quotes offered by one Eagles player shortly after Kelly was fired last December. It’s quite interesting to hear these sorts of criticisms levied against the offense of a guy like Kelly who came into the NFL so highly advertised, though.

Iman Shumpert reportedly in possession of marijuana at time of DUI arrest

The Cleveland Cavaliers announced on Friday that Iman Shumpert was arrested last month for suspicion of driving while under the influence during a traffic stop in Georgia.

“Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert was arrested by Fayette County (Ga.) Police outside Atlanta for suspicion of DUI following an Aug. 10 traffic stop for a lane violation,” the statement read. “The Cavaliers have discussed the situation with Iman and will monitor the progression of the pending case. A court date has not been set at this point, and neither Iman or the team will have any additional comments while the matter progresses through the legal process.”

According to a report from TMZ, the arresting officer said Shumpert smelled of marijuana and his eyes were bloodshot. After failing a field sobriety test, the 26-year-old admitted he had smoked marijuana at a friend’s house.

Shumpert refused a blood test, claiming “people would recognize him and it would cause a scene.” Police found a mason jar with marijuana inside when they searched his vehicle, and Shumpert was arrested for DUI and weed possession. He also received a citation for failing to stay in his lane.

All we can hope for is that Shumpert wasn’t under the influence when he played doctor at his house last year. That would be a terrifying thought.

Tristan Thompson reportedly dating Khloe Kardashian

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/tristan-thompson-2016-1.jpg?fit=600%2C399

Tristan Thompson

Khloe Kardashian seemingly goes from one professional athlete to the other, and the latest could be Cleveland Cavaliers big man Tristan Thompson.

According to Us Weekly, Thompson and Kardashian were spotted hanging out together in Cabo San Lucas over the weekend. They reportedly spent time together on the beach and also rode ATVs and jet skis.

“They were very flirty and laughing a lot,” a source told Us.

The tabloids have been all over Thompson and Kardashian, with TMZ recently reporting they were spotted at a Beverly Hills mansion together before heading off to a nightclub. A source for PEOPLE took it a step further, claiming Thompson and Khloe are dating.

“Khloe and Tristan have been seeing each other for a little bit,” the source said. “He’s a really nice, good guy and she seems very happy with him. It’s unclear for now if it’s going to turn [into] anything super serious, but for now they’re having a good time together.”

Kardashian, who is currently separated from Lamar Odom, has dated MLB star Matt Kemp and NBA star James Harden. More recently, she was linked to an NFL player who said the rumors surrounding him and Khloe ruined his chances with another woman.

Kardashian’s relationship with Thompson seems like it’s a bit more than friendly flirting at this point.

Mark Sanchez will reportedly sign with Cowboys after Broncos release

http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/mark-sanchez-broncos-1.jpg?fit=600%2C380

mark-sanchez-broncos

Mark Sanchez is headed to the Dallas Cowboys after being released by the Denver Broncos, according to a report.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Cowboys are Sanchez’s destination. The move came just moments after the Broncos saved a significant sum of money and a draft pick they would have given to Philadelphia had he made their roster.

Troy Renck of ABC Denver previously reported that the Broncos had been trying to trade Sanchez, with the Cowboys named as a suitor.

None of this is a surprise. Sanchez’s fate in Denver was sealed as soon as Trevor Siemian won the Broncos’ starting job. Trade talks had been ongoing, but Dallas was never going to give up much with the knowledge that Denver was never going to let that money and the draft pick go guaranteed. They knew that Denver would inevitably dump him, and were happy to wait it out and snap him up as soon as they did. Sanchez will serve as Dak Prescott’s backup until Tony Romo returns from injury.

Cowboys could reportedly face wrath of NFL for signing Mark Sanchez too quickly

mark-sanchez-broncos

It was a matter of minutes between finding out Mark Sanchez had been released and learning that he was headed for the Dallas Cowboys. In fact, according to the NFL, it may have gone down entirely too quickly.

According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk, the Cowboys could be in trouble if found to have signed Sanchez before the league issued an official daily transaction report.

ESPN’s Ed Werder reported that the Cowboys claim they have not yet finalized a deal and are merely discussing the terms of a one-year contract.

The team had reported on their official website that they “are expected to sign” Sanchez, though it shies away from making any pronouncement of a final, formal deal.

It’s all semantics, it appears. Sanchez will be a Cowboy in due time, and he will be Dak Prescott’s backup.

An outstanding performance on Thursday night wasn’t enough to save a roster spot for Jets inside linebacker Taiwan Jones as he has reportedly been waived by Gang Green along with wide receiver Jeremy Ross.

As mentioned above by Costello, the Ross news bodes well for undrafted rookie free agent receiver Jalin Marahsall who looks to be safe at this point.

Yasiel Puig reportedly claimed on waivers

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Yasiel-Puig-diving-catch.jpg?fit=555%2C269

Yasiel-Puig-diving-catch

Yasiel Puig’s official exit from Los Angeles may finally be imminent.

According to a report by Jon Heyman of Today’s Knuckleball on Tuesday, Puig has been claimed on waivers. Though the identity of the claimant is still unknown, the Dodgers can attempt to work out a deal with that team.

Puig was demoted to the minor leagues at the beginning of the month. Since then, the Chicago White Sox and the Atlanta Braves have been mentioned amongst several potential trade partners.

But the Dodgers don’t just want to give Puig away and have reportedly turned down a number of offers for him. The 25-year-old’s contract runs through 2018 and still has $ 14 million left on it.

The corrosive Cuban outfielder’s value is in the sewer at the moment. As such, it would make sense for the Dodgers to wait until the winter (at which point they would be free to negotiate with any team) and allow Puig to continue reestablishing himself in Triple-A, where he has posted a .369 batting average and a 1.045 OPS since his demotion.

Still, the team could just want to close the book on the Puig era already, so we’ll see how the process plays out.

Lance Stephenson will reportedly work out for Pelicans

lance-stephenson-grizzlies

The enigmatic Lance Stephenson is still looking for a new NBA home, and the New Orleans Pelicans appear to be interested.

According to a report by Brett Dawson of the New Orleans Advocate on Monday, Stephenson will work out for the Pelicans.

The 25-year-old Stephenson has been on four teams in the last three years, averaging 8.3 points per game, 3.2 rebounds per game, and 1.9 assists per game combined between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Memphis Grizzlies in 2015-16.

Stephenson’s talent as a shot creator and a playmaker is obvious, but his helter-skelter style of play and his combustible personality have become off-putting to many teams.

The Pelicans have long been criticized for an excess of similarly ball-dominant players on their roster. But with Tyreke Evans not expected to be ready for the start of the 2016-17 season and Eric Gordon now a Houston Rocket, Stephenson fits a need for better or for worse.

There was some talk previously that Stephenson might have to settle for a contract overseas, so this could be his final chance to land on an NBA team for next season. We’ll just have to see if New Orleans is ready for Born Ready.

Four Men Reportedly Jump UFC Fighter Outside Vegas Club. You Can Probably Guess Their Odds on This Gamble.

http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/nick-diaz-620x364.jpg?fit=620%2C364
When UFC fighter Nick Diaz entered a bathroom outside a Las Vegas club early last Wednesday morning, he and another man accidentally bumped into each as they crossed paths.

The guy apparently didn’t know who Diaz is, given he reportedly starting jawing with the fighter.

Nick Diaz (Image source: YouTube)

Nick Diaz (Image source: YouTube)

TMZ Sports reported that Diaz apologized to the man, saying he didn’t want trouble — and then three other guys joined in against Diaz and things got physical.

“I didn’t start it,” Diaz told TMZ Sports afterward. “They didn’t know who I was.”

Diaz attempted to defend himself, TMZ said — but when he got hit hard on the head, all bets apparently were off, as the brawl exited the bathroom and hit the Bellagio casino floor.

A club rep told TMZ the attackers were swinging chairs and were clearly the aggressors — but Diaz reportedly dispatched them all quickly, taking them to the ground and using choke holds on the men.

Diaz was asked by the club if he wanted to press charges, but Diaz told TMZ that wasn’t necessary: “They got the worst of it.”

Ty Lawson reportedly agrees to one-year deal with Kings

http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/ty-lawson.jpg?fit=558%2C376

Ty Lawson

The long offseason wait is finally over for Ty Lawson.

According to a report by Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical on Sunday, Lawson has agreed to a one-year deal with the Sacramento Kings.

Coming off an awful 2015-16 campaign, it took the 29-year-old Lawson nearly two months to get a free agent deal, and it’s easy to see why. Lawson was an abject disaster during his time with the Houston Rockets before being bought out and never really got a chance to repair his value as an Indiana Pacer. He averaged a scant 5.7 points per game and 3.6 assists per game between both stops combined last season.

But the Kings had an even bigger disaster on their hands at the point guard position. Rajon Rondo signed with the Bulls, Darren Collison is dealing with a recent arrest for domestic violence, the newly-signed Garrett Temple is more of a wing, and Isaiah Cousins is a rookie. While Lawson, who has had his own serious troubles off the court, still seems likely to come off the bench behind Collison, this is probably the best scenario both sides could have hoped for given their respective circumstances.

Danny Valencia, Billy Butler fight reportedly over sponsor remark

http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/danny-valencia.jpg?fit=600%2C380

Danny Valencia

Billy Butler was unavailable to play over the weekend after suffering complications following his fight with teammate Danny Valencia. Now we have an idea of what led to the fight.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle’s Susan Slusser, the two Oakland A’s teammates fought on Friday night after Butler made some comments to a product rep about the cleats Valencia wears. The rep apparently noticed that Valencia had another company’s shoes in his locker, and Valencia dismissed the concern by saying he only wears them pregame. Butler apparently said otherwise to the rep and reportedly suggested the company drop Valencia.

Valencia then supposedly confronted Butler about messing with his endorsement deal, and Butler did not back down. They reportedly bumped heads in the clubhouse and Valencia punched Butler in the temple.

Butler was not scheduled to play on Friday night anyhow, but he missed games on Saturday and Sunday he otherwise would play in because of nausea and vomiting. Slusser says Valencia could face a suspension or even be released for the incident.

We doubt Valencia gets released. The infielder is batting .302 with 15 home runs and has put together two excellent seasons in Oakland. Butler has one more year left on his contract with the A’s.

Stephen Tulloch reportedly signing with Eagles

http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/stephen-tulloch-1.jpg?fit=600%2C399

stephen-tulloch

Linebacker Stephen Tulloch has reportedly agreed to terms with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Tulloch’s deal is reportedly with $ 3 million, with $ 1.75 million of it guaranteed.

The move reunites Tulloch with Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, who was his defensive coordinator in Tennessee and then recruited him to Detroit when he became head coach of the Lions. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that these two sides decided to come to an agreement. The links between the two sides have existed virtually ever since Schwartz became the team’s defensive coordinator.

Perhaps the best news for Tulloch? Now that he no longer shares a division with Aaron Rodgers, he hopefully won’t be tempted to do the discount double check move anymore.

Bucks reportedly finalizing deal with Jason Terry

http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/jason-terry.jpg?fit=600%2C449

The Milwaukee Bucks are reportedly set to bring in veteran guard Jason Terry.

ESPN’s Marc Stein reported Thursday that the 38-year-old was in “advanced talks” with Milwaukee, who are seeking veteran leadership in the locker room. Terry and coach Jason Kidd played together in Dallas as well.

On Friday, Stein confirmed that the deal was close.

Terry was a backup for Houston last season, and he’ll likely serve in a similar role for Milwaukee. He’ll bring a bit of veteran swagger and know-how to a very young Bucks team, but from a pure basketball standpoint, his impact will be limited.

Marlins, Giants reportedly in the mix for Carlos Gomez

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Carlos-Gomez.jpg?fit=563%2C393

Carlos-Gomez

After failing to find a trade taker for Carlos Gomez, the Houston Astros have released the struggling outfielder outright, and a couple of National League teams could be interested in scooping him up on the cheap.

The Astros designated Gomez for assignment earlier this month and finally requested unconditional release waivers on him on Friday, per Brian McTaggart of MLB.com.

Jon Heyman of Today’s Knuckleball reports that the Miami Marlins and the San Francisco Giants are amongst the potential landing spots for the the 30-year-old Gomez.

The Marlins are looking for outfield help anywhere they can get it after slugger Giancarlo Stanton was lost for the season. Meanwhile, the Giants could be looking for a jolt since a rough patch post-All-Star break has seen them lose their NL West division lead to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The St. Louis Cardinals were another team previously reported to be in the mix for Gomez, so it looks like the two-time All-Star is going to get a chance somewhere to turn his nightmare season around.

Robert Griffin III, wife Rebecca reportedly bought house together in April

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/robert-griffin-girlfriend-rebecca-liddicoat3-1.jpg?fit=493%2C411

Robert Griffin III Rebecca Liddicoat

Robert Griffin III and his estranged wife, Rebecca Liddicoat, reportedly bought a house together right around the same time Liddicoat found out about RG3’s new girlfriend.

TMZ reported on Thursday that Rebecca was “blindsided” by Robert filing for divorce even after the couple had been separated for months. After speaking with sources close to Griffin, the gossip site published a follow-up report claiming the couple had been having issues for two years and things have not gotten better, meaning Rebecca couldn’t have been surprised by the divorce papers.

“Robert decided to separate while pursuing a divorce, she was not blindsided by his decision to go through with the divorce at this time,” TMZ’s source said “All he cares about is being a great father to his daughter moving forward.”

However, public records show that Robert and Rebecca bought a house together on April 14 and both their names are on the deed. According to TMZ, that is the same month Rebecca found out the Cleveland Browns quarterback had been talking to Florida State track and field star Grete Sadeiko on social media. The sources close to Griffin claim RG3 bought the home for himself, but that doesn’t explain why Rebecca’s name is also on the deed — especially if they had been separated.

There’s always going to be a lot of he-said, she-said in a high-profile divorce case. While the timeline can be disputed, we know Griffin and Sadeiko (photos here) seem to be really into one another. If you don’t think so, perhaps this tattoo on RG3’s arm will convince you.

Alex Rodriguez reportedly will not get farewell ceremony from Red Sox

http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Alex-Rodriguez-3.jpg?fit=600%2C407

Alex Rodriguez

Alex Rodriguez is ending his playing career in fitting fashion with a three-game road trip to Fenway Park before appearing in his final game at Yankee Stadium on Friday. We know the Yankees are going to plan a big sendoff for A-Rod, but what about his team’s biggest rival?

According to Scott Lauber of ESPN.com, the Boston Red Sox are planning nothing more than a “low-key acknowledgement” of A-Rod’s career when the Yankees come to town. While the Red Sox held flattering farewell ceremonies for Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera when they retired, they reportedly will not be doing the same for Rodriguez.

A-Rod’s legacy, of course, is much different from Jeter’s or Rivera’s. The 41-year-old has been linked to performance-enhancing drugs on numerous occasions. He was also part of a midseason brawl in 2004 — the year Boston ended its 86-year World Series drought — with former Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek. In the playoffs that season, Rodriguez infamously slapped a ball out of pitcher Bronson Arroyo’s glove while trying to avoid a tag. Red Sox fans have mercilessly mocked him over that for years.

More recently, a Red Sox pitcher intentionally threw at A-Rod back in 2013 after Rodriguez announced he was appealing his 211-game suspension. You can see a video of that here.

Boston fans hate A-Rod. They “hated” Jeter too, but that had a lot more to do with respecting a rivalry than anything else. The hatred for Rodriguez is more authentic, which is why it is not a surprise that the Red Sox aren’t planning to roll out the red carpet for him this week.

Enes Kanter’s family reportedly disowned him over political views

http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/enes-kanter-thunder-1.jpg?fit=585%2C371

Enes Kanter Thunder

Enes Kanter has opened himself up for a great deal of criticism by sharing his views on politics in his native country of Turkey. That apparently is not limited to fans who know him as an NBA player, as Kanter’s family is also said to have disowned him.

A story from Seyma Eraz and Yunus Paksoy of Daily Sabah explains how members of Kanter’s family turned their backs on the Oklahoma City Thunder center after he criticized Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan. That includes Kanter’s father Mehmet, who recently wrote a letter apologizing for his son’s views on the Turkish government.

“I apologize to the Turkish people and the president for having such a son,” Mehmet wrote. “His statements and behavior trouble our family. I told Enes that we would disown him should he not change his course. He did not care. … I would not have taken Enes to the U.S. for the basketball camp where his talent was discovered had I known that it would come to this point.”

Mehmet believes Enes has been “hypnotized” by the Gülenist Terror Organization (FETÖ). Mehmet’s cousin Bilal expressed the same opinion.

“We had warned (Enes) previously about his ties with the FETÖ,” Bilal said. “We have not been able to reach out to Enes for a long time.”

Kanter spoke out against Ergodan following a terrorist bombing that killed 37 people in Turkey back in March. He criticized the nation for blocking access to social media and filtering the information people receive, and Kanter’s tweets led to death threats. Last year, Kanter said he believed he was left off Turkey’s 2015 Eurobasket team because of his political views.

Many of us have grown to appreciate Kanter’s sense of humor based on his hilarious tweets. Despite his fun-loving personality, it would appear Kanter has a lot of personal issues he deals with off the court.

Eagles, Stephen Tulloch reportedly in heavy negotiations

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/stephen-tulloch.jpg?fit=600%2C399

The Philadelphia Eagles may be close to shoring up their linebacker unit.

According to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN on Sunday, the Eagles are in heavy negotiations with ex-Detroit Lion Stephen Tulloch.

Tulloch, 31, recorded 107 combined tackles for the Lions in 2015. He probably is no longer an every-down linebacker at this stage of his career but would represent serviceable depth in the middle of the field behind Mychael Kendricks, Jordan Hicks, and Nigel Bradham.

Though Tulloch is probably best known for one of the most embarrassing and unfortunate celebration injuries of all-time, he could still be useful as a situational tackle magnet for an Eagles squad coming off a season in which they gave up the third-most total yards in the NFL.

Johnny Manziel’s car was reportedly involved in bad accident

http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/johnny-manziel-hair.jpg?fit=600%2C498

Johnny Manziel hair

Yet another car owned by Johnny Manziel was involved in an accident earlier this summer, but the former Cleveland Browns quarterback was reportedly not present at the time of the incident.

Police told TMZ that Manziel’s Mercedes G-Class SUV, which was parked at the time, was hit by another driver on June 25. A woman driving a red sedan reportedly smashed into Manziel’s car and ended up flipping her own. Police say the woman was not drinking or impaired. No one was in Manziel’s car at the time of the crash.

According to TMZ, Manziel’s buddy Ryan Silverstein — aka OVO Ryan — had borrowed the NFL free agent’s car without permission so he could pick up some people at a strip club. Manziel was supposedly out of town at the time and not pleased about the accident, as his SUV suffered heavy damage.

While much of it sounds like bad luck, that is the third time Manziel has been connected to a car accident in some way this offseason. He was also the victim of a hit-and-run back in June (details here) and was a passenger in another hit-and-run before that. Silverstein was supposedly driving at the time of the first accident.

If you remember, Manziel was in a dispute with a rental car company over a car that was totaled while being rented under his name. The owner of the rental car company actually confronted Manziel, which you can see footage of here.
