Giovani dos Santos wins MLS Player of the Week for Week 27

While the spotlight was on his new-slash-old LA Galaxy teammate, Gio dos Santos had himself a fantastic game this weekend.

The LA Galaxy is on everybody"s minds right now. Most of that has to do with Landon Donovan"s surprise return last week after retiring in 2014, but a fair amount is also due to the exploits of Giovani dos Santos.

The Mexican international had probably the most consistent week around, as he scored four goals in two games, and earned the accolades of the voting panel in winning SB Nation"s MLS Player of the Week award.

Considerable questions remain for the Galaxy at this point in the season, as they are generally good on defense and sometimes good on offense but have had a ton of injuries and some international absences taking away their best players at times, and are therefore wildly inconsistent. Despite that, they are still second in the Supporters" Shield standings and if Dos Santos is playing well, one figures they"ll get results more often than not as we head into the playoffs.

Full results for Week 27, with first-place votes getting three points, second-place votes receiving two points and third-place votes earning a point each:

Can You Match The Player With Their Former Clubs?

With the transfer window in full swing, it got us thinking of some dodgy transfers from summers gone by.

There’s dozens of well travelled players scattered around the world, but can you remember who has played for who?

It’s time to put your knowledge to the test with our quiz!

The clubs in the questions are in no particular order, so the player won’t necessarily have signed for the second club in the list from the first, and so on.

Have a crack and test your knowledge!

How did you do? As good as Adriano in his prime? Or as bad as Marlon Harewood? Let us know in the comments, and challenge your mates to beat your score!

Arsenal Reject Approach For Vital Player As Injury Crisis Deepens

Arsenal Reject Approach For Vital Player As Injury Crisis Deepens

Arsenal have a full blown defensive crisis right now.

Per Mertesacker is out for five months with a knee injury, Laurent Koscielny has yet to return to training after an extended holiday, and Gabriel Paulista is the only other available senior centre back.

With players thin on the ground, West Ham’s offer to take Kieron Gibbs on loan has been rejected out of hand, given Arsene Wenger physically cannot afford to lose another defender.

Slaven Bilic is keen to sign a left back after Aaron Cresswell was ruled out for four months after getting injured in pre season.

Gibbs has fallen behind Nacho Monreal in the pecking order at the Emirates in the last couple of seasons, and a loan spell across London seemed to make sense for all parties.

But, given West Ham’s objective of getting in the top six this season, Arsene Wenger is unwilling to let one of his squad leave for a potential rival, and has rejected the bid.

That leaves Bilic without a recognised left back for the upcoming season, with Sam Byram and Michail Antonio struggling there in pre season.

And, after their Gibbs approach was blocked by Arsenal, they may turn to Norwich’s Martin Olsson instead.

The Swede has a year left on his contract and was replaced in the Canaries’ first team by Robbie Brady last season, so would presumably fancy a move.

Other targets include Hull City’s Andrew Robertson – although that move could be affected by the fact that they only have 12 fit first team players and no manager – and Copenhagen’s Ludwig Augustinsson.

The Hammers have also made moves for Swansea City striker Andre Ayew, and are closing in on the capture of Jonathan Calleri from Deportivo Maldonado.

Looks like a busy summer for Bilic.
