Zach Ertz could reportedly miss extended time with rib injury

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/zach-ertz.jpg?fit=560%2C375

zach-ertz

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz showed some nice chemistry with Carson Wentz, catching six passes for 58 yards in a Week 1 victory over the Cleveland Browns. Unfortunately, the team might be without his services for the foreseeable future.

According to a report by Zach Berman of the Philadelphia Inquirer on Tuesday, Ertz could miss “an extended period” after suffering a displacement of the first rib on his left side in Sunday’s win.

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson is calling Ertz “week-to-week” and said that, while the 25-year-old did not suffer a fracture, his rib displaced itself under the collarbone.

Ertz got a five-year extension from the team just last January, which makes the timing of the injury even worse. Veteran Brent Celek and special teams cog Trey Burton are the next men up at the tight end position. Though both are stronger blockers, they’ll likely have a difficult time replicating Ertz’s production as a pass-catcher.

WWE Randy Orton Backlash Injury: Is It Real?

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/randy_orton_bio.jpg?fit=640%2C360

Randy Orton WWE, Randy Orton return, Randy Orton 2016

Randy Orton has been on hiatus from the WWE for 11 months due to injury. (WWE.com)

The Backlash match between Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt has been cancelled, with Randy Orton not being cleared to compete.

While fake injuries often occur in the WWE, this is not one of those situations. Apparently Randy Orton is legitimately injured, and although the details have not been made public, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that it is concussion related. A few days ago at a WWE live show, Randy Orton was also not able to perform, being replaced by Kane at that North Carolina show.

Within the WWE storyline, Randy Orton was injured backstage by Bray Wyatt at Backlash.

This injury occurs only weeks after Randy Orton returned following another devastating injury. In October 2015, Orton suffered a shoulder injury that put him out until SummerSlam 2016, when he faced Brock Lesnar.

It also seems that this Lesnar match caused some legitimate damage to Orton as well.

“It has not been confirmed exactly what the injury is, although Orton took a legitimate beating from Lesnar’s elbows on the ground, which sliced him up (at SummerSlam),” the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports.

JJ Watt feared his career was over while rehabbing from injury

http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/jj-watt.jpg?fit=600%2C374

JJ Watt

Texans defensive lineman J.J. Watt admitted that he feared for his career as he rehabbed from his recent surgery.

Watt was essentially unable to do much of anything for a ten-day period after his surgery back in April, and he revealed that he had a tough time coping.

“A few of (the abdominal muscles) were fully off the bone,” Watt revealed Wednesday, via Chris Wesseling of NFL Media. “A few of them were partial torn. That was pretty serious stuff.

“When I was in Philadelphia after the first surgery, there were some days there where I really, really questioned whether or not I would ever be able to play again,” Watt added. “There was a very low point there. It was tough. I was in a hotel room in Philadelphia for I think 10 days straight not being able to really walk or do anything. There was definitely a tough point there.”

The rest is history, though, as Watt is slated to play in the season opener. Still, the revelation sheds some light on why Watt may have made these comments early in the offseason.

Josh Beckett: Red Sox made up injury to keep Aaron Cook from going to Yankees

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Josh-Beckett.jpg?fit=600%2C340

josh-beckett

Like many stars before him, Josh Beckett’s time with the Boston Red Sox came to an ugly end. The former starting pitcher was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers during the 2012 season amid questions about his work ethic and attitude, many of which stemmed from the time Beckett was spotted golfing a day after the Red Sox announced he would miss a start due to injury.

The big problem with that perception, Beckett says, is that he was never actually injured. In an interview with the “Toucher and Rich Show” on 98.5 The Sports Hub Thursday, Beckett claimed the Red Sox made up a fake injury so they could call up pitcher Aaron Cook and prevent him from opting out of his contract.

“Aaron Cook had an opt-out in his contract, I was pitching terrible – which is my fault – so we made up an injury so that [the Red Sox] could call him up, so he didn’t opt out and go to the Yankees,” Beckett said. “That was a thing, but I don’t think that that’s actually legal to do. I don’t think you can just phantom DL somebody.”

Aaron Cook, really? Beckett was pitching horrible at the time. He went 5-11 with a 5.23 ERA with the Red Sox in 2012 before being traded to the Dodgers. Perhaps Boston felt that Cook would be a valuable piece in the rotation, though he finished the season 4-11 with a 5.65 ERA. And we all know how petty the Red Sox and Yankees can get with gamesmanship.

“That’s the whole thing that I had a problem with is that nobody really stood up, and that’s when I knew it was kind of the end [of my time in Boston],” Beckett added. “You don’t have anybody in the organization backing you either .. so that’s when I knew, this is what the end looks like.”

If Beckett’s story is true, the Red Sox allowed the public to believe he went golfing despite missing a start with lat and shoulder injuries. Maybe that had something to do with Beckett being one of the alleged ringleaders of all those infamous clubhouse antics the season before.

Mike Zimmer: Teddy Bridgewater has ‘significant’ knee injury

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/teddy-bridgewater-1.jpg?fit=600%2C409

Teddy Bridgewater

Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer provided an update on the injury status of quarterback Teddy Bridgewater Tuesday afternoon during a news conference and acknowledged the QB’s injury could be season-ending.

Zimmer said he did not know the extent of Bridgewater’s injury, but he called it a “significant” knee injury. The Vikings head coach said he did not see the play as it happened in practice, but that he reviewed it on video.

“It was a non-contact thing. It was a freaky deal,” said Zimmer. “It doesn’t look good right now.”

Zimmer also explained his decision to call off practice for the rest of the day. He called it a “disappointing day.” Zimmer also complimented Bridgewater by saying, “Teddy is a great kid. Everybody loves him. Today they were disappointed.”

Bridgewater is undergoing an MRI.

Matt Ryan: Julio Jones ‘doing OK’ after ankle injury

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Julio-Jones.jpg?fit=501%2C347

Julio Jones

Julio Jones gave his fans a scare when he left Thursday night’s preseason game with an ankle injury.

Jones was termed questionable to return to the Atlanta Falcons’ game against the Miami Dolphins, but he was held out for the rest of the game as a precaution.

It sounds like the injury was not very serious.

Falcons head coach Dan Quinn told NBC that Jones could have returned to the game if it were the regular season. Atlanta quarterback Matt Ryan also did not seem worried about his top target.

“I think he’ll be OK,” Ryan said of Jones during an interview with NBC’s Michele Tafoya. “You never like seeing someone go down especially in the preseason, but I think he’s doing OK.”

Jones caught 136 passes for 1,871 yards and eight touchdowns last season and remains one of the most productive receivers in the league. Falcons fans can exhale knowing that Jones should be fine.

Cowboys not concerned about Tony Romo’s back injury

http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/tony-romo-2.jpg?fit=600%2C372

Tony Romo

Tony Romo may have been knocked out of the Cowboys’ preseason game on Thursday night on the team’s first drive, but team officials do not appear to be concerned about the extent of the quarterback’s back injury.

Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said at halftime that the team doesn’t think Romo’s back injury “is a serious thing.”

Similarly, team owner Jerry Jones downplayed the injury and said the Cowboys opted to keep Romo out despite the quarterback wanting back in the game.

Romo was hurt on the Cowboys’ third play of their game against the Seahawks. He was 1-of-1 for 11 yards prior to getting hurt on this scramble play.

Rookie fourth-round Dak Prescott replaced Romo in the game and is considered the team’s backup.

Consussion Protocol for Enunwa; Jenkins & Other Injury Updates

http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/IMG_8720.jpg?fit=640%2C417
Quincy Enunwa hauled in five passes from Fitzpatrick.

As the Jets prepare for the ever important bragging rights in the upcoming Snoopy Bowl battle; some players returned to the field while others sat out. Topping the list is Quincy Enunwa who sustained a concussion against the Redskins. Todd Bowles expressed his concern for any player who receives a concussion but indicated Quincy was getting better.

Quincy is doing better. He’s walking around. (He’s) still not ready to practice yet.

Jordan Jenkins left practice with a calf injury.

Other players who missed practice on Monday:

Romar Morris and Dominique Williams…

They’re coming along. Dominique is getting better and Romar’s shoulder is getting better, so it’s a time table when they’ll be ready, but they’re getting better everyday.

Devin Smith

He’s still rehabbing. He’s coming along. He’s been post-op for a while now, but he’s getting healthier. He’s running straight ahead, but it’s a matter of coming out here and running side-to-side.

Once I talk with the trainers and see the estimation of his recovery I’ll determine that, but right now we’re not sure yet.

On whether Muhammad Wilkerson has taken any steps forward…

He’s getting his legs underneath him. He’s getting used to the pads and he’s getting used to the hitting which he wasn’t used to before. He was just working out before. As he gets used to that and his legs stay fresh, we’re moving him up little-by-little.

Jace Amaro missed practice but Bowles said he was sore and didn’t think it would keep him out of the Giants game on Saturday.

Henderson, Forte, Giacomini; Injury Updates

http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/IMG_2510.jpg?fit=640%2C486
Matt Forte made his camp debut on Wednesday.

The Jets had a few players sustain injuries in the loss against the Washington Redskins. Todd Bowles gave a few updates on the inured players and where they stand right now.

Erin Henderson…
He had a stinger. He’s doing better. He’ll probably be “probable” this week if I was a betting man. Knowing him, he’ll want to play.

Will Matt Forté play against the Giants?
If he gets better during the week, we’ll try to anticipate it in warmups. I’d like to get him a few snaps in if I can.

On if there’s any hope of Breno Giacomini practicing this week…
No, he’s getting better but not this week.

On if he is still hopeful Giacomini will be ready for the start of the season…
Yes.

On if he expects Muhammad Wilkerson to play against the Giants…
We have to see how his practice goes as well, him and Forté. You have to see how the practice goes and how they’re feeling that day. They’re just coming off injury. They practiced last week pretty good and I want to hold the progress as to force them into one game.

On the severity of Lawrence Thomas’ shoulder…
It shouldn’t be too bad. He should be back next week.

Quincy Enunwa…
He’s getting a little better but he’s still going through it. We’ll have more information tomorrow.

On if he’s more inclined this week to give the backup running backs playing time…
We’ll see how Matt’s (Forté) feeling. If Matt is feeling okay, I’d like to get him some reps in there. Then we have Bilal (Powell), and then we’ll see what the second half looks like. The new running backs just came in, Tommy (Bohanon) had a better grasp of the system. It wouldn’t be fair to put those guys in there if they only knew two or three plays. With another week of practice, hopefully we can get some of those guys in there.

Eriksson injury woe for SIPG ACL showdown

http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/717dae8c4faa9c20779c0dfbaed85494b77aae75.jpg?fit=640%2C427

Shanghai (AFP) – Former England head coach Sven-Goran Eriksson is facing a struggle to save Shanghai SIPG’s season with key players out for their Asian Champions League (ACL) quarter-final, first leg at home to Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors on Tuesday.

Chinese Super League (CSL) signed striker Hulk for 55 million euros ($ 61 million) from Zenit St Petersburg last month, but the Brazilian lasted just 21 minutes on debut before being injured, and has not played since.

To add to Eriksson’s woes, chief playmaker Dario Conca managed to injure himself celebrating his 54th minute goal in SIPG’s 4-1 CSL win over Shijiazhuang Everbright on Friday.

With SIPG trailing CSL leaders Guangzhou Evergrande by 12 points in third place, the under-pressure Swede’s hopes of major silverware rest with the ACL.

Speaking after his side’s win over Shijiazhuang, Eriksson said he had been doing his homework on Korean opponents Jeonbuk.

“They are a very good team” he cautioned.  “We have a lot of tapes of them and we went to see them yesterday… we have a full report on them.”

Eriksson said Conca had injured his knee and gave no date for an expected return.

When asked if Hulk was finally ready to return to action, he said, “I am not sure that he will play, maybe, maybe not, let’s see.”

Elsewhere in the CSL over the weekend, Evergrande’s lead was cut to six points after Colombian striker Roger Martínez scored twice to give second-placed Jiangsu Suning a 2-1 victory over Beijing Guoan.

The league leaders, coached by Brazilian Luiz Felipe Scolari, were held 0-0 at home to Hangzhou Greentown.

In a thrilling mid-table battle, Chongqing Lifan were edged out 5-4 at home to Guangzhou R&F.

Arsenal Ready To Swoop For Duo After Injury Crisis Hits Peak

http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Wenger-Getty-Glum-1.jpg?fit=594%2C375
Arsenal Ready To Swoop For Duo After Injury Crisis Hits Peak

Wenger Getty Glum 1Getty

Arsenal haven’t had the best of pre seasons.

They’ve signed another midfielder – because they needed another, they only had 24 already – in Granit Xhaka, but were devastated by the loss of Per Mertesacker, before Gabriel was crocked last weekend.

That leaves Laurent Koscielny as the Gunners’ only fit centre back, and he’s only just returned to training after being given extended rest after Euro 2016.

So Wenger has to get active in the transfer market, and he’s got his eye on two centre backs that he wants to sign ahead of the Premier League opener against Liverpool on Sunday.

Mustafi Getty 1Getty

The first is Shkodran Mustafi, Valencia’s German defender, who has a release clause of £42 million in his contract at the Mestalla.

Despite that, Valencia’s boss Pako Ayesteran is understood to be willing to let the 24-year-old leave for somewhere around £25 million, which is music to Wenger’s ears.

Los Che are already on the lookout for a replacement, as they expected the former Everton youth team prospect to leave this summer.

If Wenger decides the fee for the Germany international is too high – a distinct possibility considering his track record – then another target may come into play.

Evans NI GettyGetty

West Bromwich Albion’s Jonny Evans was linked to the Gunners earlier this summer, and Wenger could return to tempt the Baggies with a £15 million bid.

The former United disaster is thought to be up for the move, and why wouldn’t you be when you’ve got Tony Pulis’ instructions to ‘hoof it towards Salomon Rondon and see what happens’ ringing in your ears.

If Wenger somehow refuses to spend, or doesn’t get anything done in time, then he may be forced to rush Koscielny back from his holiday.

Koscielny GettyGetty

But there lies a problem surely – why has the Frenchman only just returned to training with less than a week to go until Arsenal play Liverpool?

He was last in action on July 10 in the Euro 2016 final (a month ago), is two or three weeks not enough time off when you’ve only got one centre back fit?

Should Wenger not take the risk, his other options are Rob Holding (who last played a competitive game in the Championship), Krystian Bielik (an untested defensive midfielder), Nacho Monreal, Mathieu Debuchy (both full backs), or Francis Coquelin (another midfielder), so the choices aren’t the greatest.

Wenger has brought the problems on himself though, and it’s going to cost him massively in the next week.

Julian Edelman leaves practice early with injury

http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Julian-Edelman.jpg?fit=600%2C373

Julian Edelman

New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman left practice early on Tuesday after he reportedly suffered an injury to his lower left leg.

Edelman, who had a second surgery on his left foot this offseason, appeared angry as the team trainer looked him over.

While we don’t want to speculate on the details of the injury, there is always concern with players having setbacks after they deal with a Jones Fracture. The injury is the same one Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant came back from last season, and it was well-known that he was not the same player.

Edelman sat on a cart while being examined but eventually left the field under his own power.

With how good he looked warming up with the Boston Red Sox (video here) and his removal from the physically unable to perform list, all signs were positive for Edelman heading into the preseason. His latest injury will need to be monitored closely.

Hanley Ramirez suffers wrist injury slipping on dugout steps

http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Hanley-Ramirez-hair.jpg?fit=550%2C499

Hanley Ramirez

The Boston Red Sox suffered a major downer on Tuesday night after losing to the Seattle Mariners 5-4. First baseman Hanley Ramirez, who went 2-for-4 in the game, suffered a wrist injury slipping on the dugout steps going into the clubhouse.

Ramirez’s fall was bad enough that he got X-rays on his left wrist:

The surface of the steps appear to be pretty slick, which certainly explains how he fell:

The Red Sox will provide an update on Ramirez’s condition Wednesday. That could spell bad news.

Arsenal Reject Approach For Vital Player As Injury Crisis Deepens

http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Gibbs-Web-320x213.jpg?fit=320%2C213
Arsenal Reject Approach For Vital Player As Injury Crisis Deepens

Wenger GettyGetty

Arsenal have a full blown defensive crisis right now.

Per Mertesacker is out for five months with a knee injury, Laurent Koscielny has yet to return to training after an extended holiday, and Gabriel Paulista is the only other available senior centre back.

With players thin on the ground, West Ham’s offer to take Kieron Gibbs on loan has been rejected out of hand, given Arsene Wenger physically cannot afford to lose another defender.

Gibbs GettyGetty

Slaven Bilic is keen to sign a left back after Aaron Cresswell was ruled out for four months after getting injured in pre season.

Gibbs has fallen behind Nacho Monreal in the pecking order at the Emirates in the last couple of seasons, and a loan spell across London seemed to make sense for all parties.

But, given West Ham’s objective of getting in the top six this season, Arsene Wenger is unwilling to let one of his squad leave for a potential rival, and has rejected the bid.

Gibbs Getty 2Getty

That leaves Bilic without a recognised left back for the upcoming season, with Sam Byram and Michail Antonio struggling there in pre season.

And, after their Gibbs approach was blocked by Arsenal, they may turn to Norwich’s Martin Olsson instead.

The Swede has a year left on his contract and was replaced in the Canaries’ first team by Robbie Brady last season, so would presumably fancy a move.

Robertson GettyGetty

Other targets include Hull City’s Andrew Robertson – although that move could be affected by the fact that they only have 12 fit first team players and no manager – and Copenhagen’s Ludwig Augustinsson.

The Hammers have also made moves for Swansea City striker Andre Ayew, and are closing in on the capture of Jonathan Calleri from Deportivo Maldonado.

Looks like a busy summer for Bilic.

Rob Gronkowski reportedly had pectoral injury during offseason

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Rob-Gronkowski.jpg?fit=600%2C365

Rob-Gronkowski

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski was held out of organized team activities last month, and we may have our answer as to why.

ESPN’s Dianna Marie Russini reported on Tuesday that Gronkowski is “finally feeling great” after suffering a pectoral injury earlier this offseason. The injury apparently was a cause for concern at one point.

The Patriots never said why Gronkowski was absent, and there was even some speculation that he violated a team rule and was being disciplined. The injury makes more sense, as it doesn’t appear Gronk has done much wrong lately unless you count this hilarious shot at Julian Edelman.

Given his injury history and importance to the team, the Patriots always play it safe with Gronkowski. It appears this was another case of them doing that.

Wenger Eyes Former United Defender After Mertesacker Injury

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Evans-NI-Getty.jpg?fit=594%2C429
Wenger Eyes Former United Defender After Mertesacker Injury

Jonny Evans GettyGetty

Yes, we’ve reached that part of the summer again, where random transfer rumours circulate on a daily basis.

We’ve had the Tevez to Chelsea gossip lately as the transfer window reaches silly season, but the latest rumour from the conveyor belt links Arsenal with yet another player.

That player is West Bromwich Albion defender Jonny Evans, who is reportedly the £15m target for the Gunners, as they look for defensive reinforcements.

Mertesacker Getty 1Getty

Arsene Wenger’s side are short at the back, after Per Mertesacker was ruled out for the rest of the year with a knee injury, leaving only Laurent Koscielny and Gabriel as recognised centre backs.

New signing Rob Holding is another who can play there, but given his lack of top flight experience, it’s doutbful that Wenger would want to throw him in on the opening weekend against Liverpool.

Experience is an area where Evans is not lacking. The Northern Ireland international played over 150 times for Manchester United, and won three Premier League titles along the way.

Evans NI GettyGetty

He only joined West Brom last summer, and was a regular in Tony Pulis’ side last season but is now wanted by Wenger for a massive fee.

£15m is almost three times the price the Baggies paid for Evans last summer, but is seen as an alternative to the likes of Kostas Manolas and Shkodran Mustafi, who have both also been linked with a move to the capital.

Looks like silly season is here to stay…

NY Jets Injury Updates

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Smith-Forte-OTAs.jpg?fit=640%2C492
Smith-Forte OTAs

The Jets have four practices in the books and an off day on Monday. They were in pads on Sunday for the first time and when they return to the field on Tuesday they will be in pads again. Head coach Todd Bowles spoke after practice and gave some injury updates. Here are the highlights.

Darrelle Revis
Well, he’s done the same thing the last three days. He does individuals. That’s what we have him scheduled for. We’ll see how he progresses and we’ll try to do a little more next week.

Dexter McDougle (missed practice)
He had a sore hamstring.

On whether Matt Forte did any work on the field…
No, he did not (hamstring). Day-by-day, we’ll see how he’s feeling.

Jace Amaro
Day Two, he’s making progress. It’s still early, you want to get the first two days of pads out of the way and then settle in and this way everybody can concentrate and we just monitor it day-by-day.

Juston Burris
He’s healthy. He was banged up in the spring, so it’s good to see him out here. He’s getting a lot of work. He’s getting a lot of experience going against some good receivers. It’s going to be interesting to see what he does going forward.

Scot McCloughan injures hand hitting wall in frustration after learning of injury

http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/scot-mccloughan.jpg?fit=600%2C364

Scot McCloughan

The injuries to the Washington Redskins are having negative effects on the team beyond just the players who are hurt.

Washington GM Scot McCloughan actually injured his hand punching a wall in frustration after learning that first-round pick Josh Doctson had an Achilles’ tendon injury.

Former Washington TE Chris Cooley, who is a radio host, shared the story of McCloughan’s injury on ESPN 980.

“I said, ‘What happened to your hand?"” Cooley recalled on the radio, via the Richmond Times-Dispatch. “He said, when I found out about Doctson – which they thought was going to be much worse, the Doctson injury, apparently it isn’t going to be as bad – I punched the wall.”

You can see McCloughan’s bandaged hand in these photos:

Doctson injured himself in May but his injury isn’t supposed to be that bad. Though the former TCU receiver opened training camp on the physically unable to perform list, he is just day-to-day, which is much better than what McCloughan originally thought.

As for McCloughan, hopefully that hand injury goes away sooner than later.
