Tim Tebow receives contract offer from independent league team

Tim Tebow baseball

Tim Tebow has received another offer to play professional baseball, although this one is much less serious than his previous offer.

The Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League offered Tebow a baseball contract on Wednesday.

“The Bluefish welcome Tim with open arms,” said Bluefish General Manager Jamie Toole. “The Atlantic League is all about giving players opportunity, and we think Bridgeport would be a great place for him to begin his professional baseball career.”

What makes this a publicity stunt of sorts? The fact that the Atlantic League’s regular season ends in less than three weeks. That wouldn’t be enough time for Tebow to do much. Let’s also not forget that this team made headlines earlier this year by having Jennie Finch guest manage the team for a day.

Tebow already has a legitimate offer from a Venezuelan winter league team outstanding, and he received interest from a handful of MLB teams after his workout Tuesday.

Getting his feet wet in independent league ball wouldn’t be the worst thing for Tebow, but it makes sense for him to hold out for something better.

Veterans for Kaepernick hashtag blows up as QB receives support

Veterans for Kaepernick

Colin Kaepernick is being slammed from all angles for protesting the national anthem by refusing to stand when it is played prior to his NFL games. The San Francisco 49ers QB is taking a stand on this matter because he wants to bring attention and change to what he feels is unjust conduct by some police officers towards black people.

Many have called Kaepernick “disrespectful” for his actions and have criticized his decision to protest the anthem. They say he is being particularly disrespectful to the military and other people who protect the country and the flag.

But one funny thing happened on Tuesday: Kaepernick began to receive support from the very people the masses said he was disrespecting. And the support came in the form of a movement on social media “#VeteransforKaepernick.”

As best as we can tell, the hashtag movement began with a Facebook post on Monday:

That post was shared on Twitter and led to a hashtag picking up steam Tuesday evening:

By late Tuesday, there were thousands of tweets sent using the #VeteransforKaepernick hashtag. Tons of people who claim to be vets said on Twitter that they fought to protect Kaepernick’s right to protest. Here’s a look at many of those tweets:

This stated things well:

Nate Schierholtz receives 80-game PED suspension

Free agent outfielder Nate Schierholtz has found his way into the news once again, albeit under less than ideal circumstances.

According to a report by Buster Olney of ESPN on Friday, Schierholtz has been suspended 80 games after testing positive for Ibutamoren, a performance-enhancing drug.

Schierholtz, 32, last played in the MLB for the Washington Nationals in the 2014 season. A former second-round pick, he won a World Series ring with the San Francisco Giants in 2010. Schierholtz received minor-league deals from the Texas Rangers and the Detroit Tigers in recent years but ultimately failed to make the final big-league roster in both instances.

Major League Baseball appears to be really cracking down on PED violators this season with Marlon Byrd, Chris Colabello, Abraham Almonte, Dee Gordon, and Jenrry Mejia all drawing suspensions as well. As for Schierholtz, a return to the bigs was already looking like a longshot, so this news certainly isn’t going to help his odds.
