Tom Brady missed Thursday’s preseason game between the New England Patriots and Chicago Bears after cutting his thumb with scissors.

Brady was not seen on the field prior to the game and was spotted leaving the stadium prior to the game. Comcast New England’s Tom E. Curran reported that Brady had left because he cut his thumb with scissors trying to pry something loose from his cleats.

Brady is suspended the first four games of the season for his role in the Deflategate scandal. Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to be the team’s starting quarterback during that span, with Jacoby Brissett next up on the team’s depth chart.

It sounds like Brady will be fine.

Report: Trevor Story likely done for year with torn thumb ligament

Like a shooting star, Trevor Story came out of nowhere and illuminated our lives, then left just as quickly.

According to a report by Jon Morosi of MLB Network on Tuesday, Story is likely out for the rest of the regular season after suffering a torn UCL in his left thumb that will require surgery.

The 23-year-old shortstop had taken the baseball world by storm with a near-unprecedented rookie year performance at the plate. Story was batting .272/.341/.567 with 27 home runs (tops in the NL) and 72 RBIs in just 97 games, and his historic seven home runs in his first six career games was one of the best storylines (no pun intended) in the first month of the season.

The Rockies are currently 4.5 games behind the second Wild Card spot in the NL, so there likely won’t be a postseason for Story to return for. Also, with formidable counterparts such as Corey Seager and Aledmys Diaz (who, coincidentally, landed on the disabled list after suffering a thumb injury of his own on Sunday) also jostling for position, Story may not have done enough to earn NL Rookie of the Year honors either.

It looks like a sad ending to a tremendous first season for Story, but at least he still stays winning off the diamond.
