http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/GettyImages-183586602.jpg?fit=640%2C427

As if Miami wasn’t enough, the Heat will once again hold training camp at The Atlantis Paradise Island Resort in Nassau, Bahamas. They first ventured to the popular vacation spot prior to the 2013-14 season. This year’s camp will take place from Tuesday, September 27 to Saturday, October 1.

Per NBA.com:

Following Media Day on Monday, September 26, the HEAT will travel to Nassau and will conduct two-a-day practice sessions beginning on Tuesday. They will conclude the practice sessions and return to Miami on Saturday afternoon.

The HEAT would like to thank the Prime Minister of the Bahamas, the Honorable Perry Christie, and the Minister of Tourism Obie Wilchcombe for their assistance.

“The Miami HEAT’s decision to hold its fall training camp in The Bahamas for a second year is indicative of something very special going on in our destination,” said Bahamas Minister of Tourism, Hon. Obie H. Wilchcombe, M.P. “The Bahamas has established itself as a world class sports tourism destination and we look forward to welcoming the Miami HEAT’s players, coaches and executives.”

Report: Former NBA Center Samuel Dalembert Arrested in Florida

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/GettyImages-460121442.jpg?fit=640%2C426

Samuel Dalembert, who played 13 seasons in the NBA, is currently facing battery charges in Boca Raton, Florida. Authorities claim Dalembert hit his girlfriend and her cousin after discovering she was leaving for Orlando with their two children.

More from Philly.com:

A Boca Raton police report says police responded to Dalembert’s home Sunday evening after a 911 hang-up. The woman and her cousin initially told officers nothing was wrong but eventually said the 7-foot, 270-pound Dalembert became upset after finding out that his girlfriend was leaving for Orlando with their two children.

The cousin told police Dalembert pushed the girlfriend down and then choked the cousin when he tried to intervene. Dalembert was arrested on two counts of battery and released from jail.

Dalembert played with the 76ers, Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets, Milwaukee Bucks, Dallas Mavericks and New York Knicks during a 13-year NBA career.

New York Jets Report Card: Week 1

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/USATSI_9536915_158813650_lowres.jpg?fit=640%2C512
Leonard Williams, Andy Dalton, Bengals

New York Jets Report Card

Week 1: Bengals @ Jets

9/11/16

Not thrilled about his contract situation, Fitzpatrick

Quarterback: C-
Fitzpatrick: 19/35, 189 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, 4 rushes for 15 yards
Fitzpatrick got off to a slow start for the Jets in the preseason, having missed training camp while negotiating a new contract. Has the rust finally come off?  Perhaps a little, but certainly not enough. Fitz didn’t turn the ball over until the final seconds of the 4th quarter were ticking down and there were even brief moments when he seemed to be in mid-season form, but he’d be the first to admit that he left way too many plays on the field. Of particular concern were the failed red done conversions.
Running Backs: B+
Forte: 22/96/0, 5 receptions for 59 yards
Powell: 4/41/0, 2 receptions for 7 yards
Forte was a major addition for the Jets this offseason, as they looked to add a more multipurpose back to the roster: one with the ability to run, catch and block. So did the move pay off in week 1? Absolutely. Forte made his presence felt early and often, gaining over 150 yards from scrimmage. He may not be the bell cow that Ivory was, but the added element he brings in the passing game and as a dump off option for Fitzpatrick will make him quite a weapon for this offense in 2016. Powell looked spry on limited touches.
Wide Receivers/Tight Ends: B-
Enunwa: 7/54/1
Decker: 2/37/1
Marshall: 3/32/0
The Jets are carrying several young receivers into the season to complement their big duo in Marshall and Decker. Enunwa was the star on the day, and, although I could live without ever seeing one of those quasi end-arounds again, he’s clearly providing an element to the passing game that he didn’t last year.
Offensive Line: B
Offensive Line has been a major question mark on this roster all offseason, especially along the right side where Breno Giacomini is out and unproven young tackles are fighting for his spot. But the Jets O-line surrendered just 1 sack on the day. Part of that is due to Fitz getting the ball out of his hands and maneuvering out of dangerous situations, but that’s more than you might have expected from this unit going up against a tough Bengals D-line. They did a good job here in blocking for the run as well and that’s a positive sign as Forte is not the type of power back that Ivory was last year.
Defensive Line: A
The Jets were without Sheldon Richardson, but did you really notice? Steven McLendon (formerly of the Pittsburgh Steelers) was a force out there at defensive tackle, posting 2 sacks to go along with Wilkerson’s 1.5 and Leonard Williams’ – get this – 2.5. Altogether, the Jets defensive line came down with 6 sacks on the day (an additional sack was provided by linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin).
Linebackers: C-
The Jets made a number of changes in the offseason to improve their team speed at linebacker. The Cincinnati Bengals ran just 19 running plays. Jets linebackers struggled, though, in pursuing the tackle on screen passes and in providing support on short outs.
Secondary: D
The Jets had question marks surrounding the 2nd cornerback position on the outside after the release of players like Milliner and McDougle. This was the toughest game that I can remember for a Jets secondary in years. In fairness, Cincy QB Andy Dalton was firing a laser gun out there time and time again, and his #1 receiving threat A.J. Green was at the top of his game. Nevertheless, numerous mix-ups, miscommunications and trips and falls contributed to Dalton’s total of 366 passing yards on the game.
Special Teams: D
The Special Teams unit is expected by many to be the most improved unit for the Jets this season. Rookie returner Jalin Marshall (not Brandon) looked explosive out there but Nick Folk missed a PAT and had a short FG blocked and that ended up being more than the difference in the game. This is the kind of game that you’d love to give split ratings for, if you could: other than a few devastating mistakes, the Special Teams does indeed look improved. Look for a big bounce back performance coming shortly.
Coaching: C-
With one of the league’s toughest schedules early on, Bowles and his staff knew the importance of securing this week 1 win. Gailey’s overly conservative playcalling in the red-zone was a big contributor to the loss here, as was miscommunication and confusion in the secondary – and those kinds of mistakes are on the head coach. It was a tight game against a tough team, and sometimes that ends up being a coin toss kind of game as it did today. It’s those little decisions here and there that can turn the game in your favor or against you.

Report: Packers feared Josh Sitton would become problem child in locker room

http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/josh-sitton-2.jpg?fit=600%2C392

Josh Sitton

As tends to be the case with such situations, there was more beneath the surface that led to the Green Bay Packers’ surprising release of Josh Sitton.

According to Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette, the Packers cut Sitton in part because they feared him becoming a problem in the locker room and negatively impacting younger plays.

Sitton was said to be loud and opinionated in the locker room, going as far as to criticize personnel moves, decisions made by the coaches, and even some of his teammates. He had a penchant for arguing as well. The Packers were willing to put up with this sort of behavior when Sitton was performing at an elite level, but at age 30, chronic back problems and sagging play made the Packers see him as no longer worth it. The last straw was reportedly when the team’s coaches took notice of younger linemen picking up some of Sitton’s bad habits, and that helped prompt the team to pull the plug.

Sitton ended up cut in a move that surprised outsiders and landed with the Chicago Bears. It sounds, though, like this didn’t come as a surprise to anyone who knew the whole story.

Report: Russell Wilson undergoing precautionary X-rays on ankle

Russell Wilson Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks grinded out a 12-10 Week 1 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, but they didn’t emerge entirely unscathed.

According to a report by Bob Holtzman of ESPN, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is undergoing precautionary X-rays on his right ankle.

Chris Wesseling of Around the NFL adds that Wilson suffered the injury when Dolphins defensive tackle Ndakumong Suh (of all people) stepped on his heel.

Wilson did say after the game that, despite some soreness, he should be fine, per Curtis Crabtree of ProFootballTalk.

The fifth-year signal caller is known for his durability, having not missed a game since he was drafted in 2012. With a Week 2 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams looming, hopefully Wilson can pour some Recovery Water on the ankle and be ready to go.

Report: Growing Optimism Chris Bosh Will Be Cleared To Play By Heat

http://www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/chris-bosh-1.jpg

Despite concerns regarding his health after blood clots sidelined him for the majority of the last two seasons, Chris Bosh has been adamant that he wants to play. Bosh has been visible with his workouts on social media and now there is a report of growing optimism that the two-time NBA champ will be cleared to play by the Heat organization.

From the Miami Herald‘s Barry Jackson

There is growing optimism about Chris Bosh being cleared by the Heat to resume his career while remaining on blood thinners, according to a union source.

Bosh pitched the Heat on playing late last season, while taking a new form of blood thinner that would be out of his system in eight hours or so. The Heat resisted that approach at that time but is now more open than it had been to Bosh playing while on blood thinners, according to the source.

Bosh wouldn’t be the first athlete to do that: Former Florida Panthers player Tomas Fleischmann takes anticoagulant injections after games that are out of his system by game time.

Whether Bosh would be able to play in every game, such as the second set of back-to-backs, remains to be seen.

But barring a setback in the next few weeks, it would be surprising if Bosh isn’t cleared to play.

Inactives Report: Harris Active, Jenkins Out

http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/david-harris-1.jpg?fit=630%2C420
david-harris-1

After a scare in week three of the preseason, David Harris will start for the season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals. Harris injured his shoulder against the Giants, and initially thought he had broken his collarbone. After tests, it was revealed that it was only a bruise. This will be a huge boost for the Jets seeing as Harris is essentially the quarterback of the defense, making sure all the players are in the right position. Conversely, rookie Jordan Jenkins will be out today. Jenkins wasn’t able to practice all week and was listed as doubtful for the game. Even though Jenkins was selected in the third round, he was the favorite to start opposite Lorenzo Mauldin at outside linebacker. Mike Catapano will likely start in his place.

Other inactives include: Bryce Petty, Christian Hackenberg, Troymaine Pope, Darryl Roberts, Brandon Shell, and Braedon Bowman

Both backup quarterbacks Bryce Petty, and Christian Hackenberg won’t dress for today’s game. This shouldn’t surprise anyone as Petty is recovering from an injury, and Hackenberg is in a “red shirt” season. Petty’s push for the second string spot was cut short against the Eagles after throwing a touchdown strike to Robby Anderson. With Geno Smith’s contract expiring after this season though, it’s likely he could either have a chance to start or be the second string backup next season. Meanwhile, Hackenberg looked completely lost against the Eagles, and showed he was still far away from taking the field during the regular season.

Newly signed running back Troymaine Pope will be inactive, leaving Matt Forte and Bilal Powell as the only two active running backs. Julian Howsare will also be active at fullback. Pope was one of the leading rushers in the preseason, but he won’t get a chance to flash his ability yet for the Jets.

Backup cornerback Darryl Roberts won’t suit up today, leaving the Jets with only four active corners. Rookie Juston Burris will likely see a good chunk of playing time after having an impressive preseason and training camp. The four active cornerbacks include: Darrelle Revis, Buster Skrine, Marcus Williams, and Burris.

New tight end Braedon Bowman will be inactive today as well. The Jets made a statement by releasing former second round pick Jace Amaro, who failed to make any argument for a roster spot. While releasing Amaro was justified, it leaves the Jets with a destitute tight end position for the second season in a row. Incumbent Kellen Davis will start, followed by Brandon Bostick.

Fifth round draft pick Brandon Shell will likely see a “red shirt” season as well. Shell looked almost as lost as Hackenberg during the preseason. It’s likely he will get ample opportunity to prove himself as the Jets moved up to select him in the fifth round.

The Jets’ 2016 season begins today at MetLife Stadium on the 15th anniversary of 9/11. It will be an emotional atmosphere, and a huge game for both the Bengals and the Jets. The Jets have a tough schedule this season, and will be looking to open the season with a win for the sixth time in a row.

Report: Larry Fitzgerald to retire after season

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Larry-Fitzgerald.jpg?fit=573%2C339

Larry-Fitzgerald

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald is planning to make the 2016 season his last in the NFL.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Fitzgerald has decided he will retire at the end of the year.

Fitzgerald, a nine-time Pro Bowler, turned 33 a little over a week ago. He enjoyed one of his best seasons as a pro last year, hauling in a career-high 109 receptions for 1,215 yards and nine touchdowns.

The Cardinals are a legitimate Super Bowl contender this season, and Fitzgerald would obviously like to go out with a ring. The veteran had an injury scare during training camp last month, but he appears to be healthy heading into Week 1. He’ll likely be a lock for the Hall of Fame.

Report: Anthony Davis not considering retiring again

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Anthony-Davis.jpg?fit=600%2C380

Anthony-Davis

There are conflicting reports on Sunday as to the future of San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman Anthony Davis.

Amidst reports that Davis, who retired once before returning after a year and a half for this season, was about to walk away from the game for a second time, Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole reported Saturday that Davis had no such thought.

Cam Inman of the Mercury News reported earlier Saturday that the Niners were trying to talk their starting right guard out of retirement just two days before the start of the regular season.

The fears apparently weren’t quite without merit. As recently as July, the Niners were reportedly concerned that Davis wasn’t back to stay. He did miss Saturday’s practice with a personal issue which helped fuel the speculation, but it sounds like the team can safely count on him lining up at right guard on Monday night.

Report: Chris Bosh wants to play, working on solution with Heat

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/chris-bosh.jpg?fit=536%2C352

Chris Bosh

Chris Bosh has still not been cleared to play by the Miami Heat, but it sounds like the two sides are finally inching closer to a solution.

Bosh, whose season ended prematurely due to another blood clot scare, has been taking blood thinning medication. The Heat do not want him taking the court while he’s still on the medication, as that would increase the risk of serious — and potentially fatal — injuries. Bosh wants to play, and a situation has been discussed where he could take blood thinners that would be out of his system by the time each game tips off.

According to Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald, Bosh and the Heat are working on “potential solutions.”

Discussions remain focused on the Heat’s comfort level with Bosh taking new thinners that would be out of his system within eight hours or so, and ways for him to play while taking those type of thinners, according to an NBA-employed source.

The Heat is working on potential solutions and has said it would like to try to get him back on the court. Bosh very much wants to play and intends to (according to his wife). He still needs to be cleared by the Heat, and there will be some level of uncertainty until that happens. But the Heat is working on a solution, which has led to some optimism.

Bosh has made it clear through videos he posted on social media (watch them here) that he feels ready to return. For a while, it seemed like the Heat were never going to clear Bosh and were trying to force him into retirement. That talk has cooled for the time being.

Report: Broncos willing to trade Aqib Talib

http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/aqib-talib.jpg?fit=600%2C426

Aqib Talib

The Denver Broncos are reportedly willing to trade veteran cornerback Aqib Talib if the price is right.

While nothing sounds imminent, the 30-year-old cornerback is reportedly on the block.

For what it’s worth, Mike Klis of 9News immediately disputed the report.

GM John Elway also denied the report.

There are a number of reasons the Broncos might consider moving the cornerback. First, Talib is now on the wrong side of 30. Second, his cap hit is substantial at nearly $ 10 million. Third, the emergence of Chris Harris, Bradley Roby, and Kayvon Webster means that Talib is more expendable. Add in the fact that Talib could be facing discipline for off-field troubles and it stands to reason that Denver could be happy to move on. What their asking price is — and whether any team would be interested in meeting it — remains an unanswered question, though.

Report: Keenan Reynolds to be waived by Ravens

http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/keenan-reynolds.jpg?fit=600%2C366

Keenan Reynolds

Keenan Reynolds’ effort to make the Baltimore Ravens looks like it will come up short.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport says the Ravens are planning to release Reynolds, who finished fifth in Heisman Trophy voting last year.

Despite playing quarterback in college, Reynolds was trying to make the Ravens as a wide receiver and special teams player. He was drafted in the sixth round and his conversion from QB to wide receiver was not going well.

In over 80 preseason snaps, Reynolds posted just one catch. He also reportedly was dropping punts and passes regularly throughout camp.

If Reynolds wants to get another shot in the NFL as a wide receiver, it sounds like he will have to put in a lot of work on his pass-catching skills.

Report: RG3 struggling to read defenses

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Robert-Griffin.jpg?fit=600%2C338

Robert Griffin

The RG3 reclamation project may not be going quite as well as hoped in Cleveland.

Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole reports that Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson is concerned about his team entering the final preseason game. The Browns, 0-3 in the preseason, lost 30-13 to the Bucs last week with quarterback Robert Griffin III going 8-of-14 for 119 yards and a touchdown pass.

Cole says the Browns will have their regulars play in the final preseason game and that there is concern about some regression from Griffin. The Browns apparently believe RG3 needs to get rid of the ball faster and that he still struggles to read defenses.

Griffin will enter the season as the Browns’ starting quarterback after not having taken a snap in the regular season last year in Washington. RG3 was mediocre in both 2013 and 2014.

Griffin, who is going through a divorce, is four years removed from his famed rookie season where he threw for 20 touchdowns and five interceptions while leading Washington to the playoffs.

Report: Browns asking Vikings for high draft pick in exchange for Josh McCown

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/josh-mccown.png?fit=590%2C460

Josh McCown

The Cleveland Browns are reportedly asking quite a bit if someone wants to take Josh McCown off their hands.

The Minnesota Vikings have looked at McCown in light of the injury to Teddy Bridgewater, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. However, the Browns are asking for what is called “a high pick” in exchange for McCown, wary of Robert Griffin III’s injury history and cognizant of McCown’s role as a leader.

The Vikings have not weighed in on the asking price yet, but Cabot reports that Colin Kaepernick, Mark Sanchez, Mike Glennon, and Michael Vick could be other names the Vikings look at in light of Bridgewater’s injury.

The Cowboys targeted Foles, but this asking price chased them off. It seems like it could do the same to the Vikings and they’ll have to look elsewhere.

Report: Chris Bosh still frustrated with Heat handling of health situation

http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/chris-bosh-1.jpg?fit=536%2C352

Chris Bosh

The Miami Heat still have not cleared Chris Bosh to play, and Bosh remains frustrated with the team over that situation.

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Bosh and his wife Adrienne have been very active on social media in the past week, partly as a coordinated effort to show that the veteran big man looks and feels ready to return to the NBA.

The Heat, however, still have not cleared Bosh to play after another blood clot scare ended his season prematurely.

Miami likely will not be able to get Bosh off the cap, even if he doesn’t play until February 9. The expectation is, if things got that far, the player and the players’ union would almost certainly enlist a doctor to fight it.

The Heat have implied that Bosh will be back soon enough. It feels as if we could be in for something ugly if this goes on much longer.

Liverpool striker Ballotelli to have medical at Nice: report

http://www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/10d92df7a7657ae909c24c3c53baf6a223b37abf.jpg

Nice (France) (AFP) – Liverpool’s outcast Italian striker Mario Balotelli was to have a medical at French side Nice on Wednesday amid transfer deadline day talks between the clubs, l’Equipe newspaper reported.

The 26-year-old could be sold or loaned to Nice, the report said. Once one of the biggest hopes in Europe, Balotelli has not played for Italy since the 2014 World Cup and has been told he is not wanted by Liverpool coach Juergen Klopp.

A Nice official told l’Equipe no agreement had been reached and that the medical was “to save time” if an accord could be found.

“If the situation works out, maybe late in the day, it will be done. If we don’t agree with Liverpool, he will leave again,” the official added.

Nice want a permanent transfer but a loan was also possible, the club official was quoted as saying. Balotelli spent last season on loan at AC Milan but the Italian side chose not to extend the deal.

Report: Blue Jays, Reds discussed Joey Votto trade last season

http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/joey-votto.jpg?fit=600%2C370

joey-votto

Former NL MVP Joey Votto has been a Cincinnati Red for his entire 10-season MLB career. But was he actually close to becoming a Toronto Blue Jay last season?

According to a report by Richard Griffin of the Toronto Star on Monday, the Blue Jays and the Reds “were beginning serious discussions” at last year’s trade deadline about a Votto trade. However, talks were said to have “never gained momentum” as Toronto pursued (and pulled off) deals for Troy Tulowitzki and David Price instead.

The 32-year-old Votto was actually born in Toronto and grew up in Etobicoke, an administrative district within the Toronto metropolitan area. Griffin also notes that Votto is under contract through 2023 and is still owed approximately $ 182 million guaranteed with a $ 7 million buyout for 2024, thanks to a 10-year, $ 225 million extension he signed with the Reds in 2012.

The Blue Jays didn’t (and still don’t) have many lefty bats outside of Michael Saunders and the switch-hitting Justin Smoak. With the Reds seemingly tearing down their core by trading away the likes of Jay Bruce, Aroldis Chapman, and Todd Frazier in just the last eight months alone, it wouldn’t be a shock to see the two sides pick Votto talks up again some time in the future. The four-time All-Star has already looked the part in the past after all.

Report: Angels will likely retain Mike Scioscia as manager

http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/mike-scioscia-angels.jpg?fit=525%2C363

Mike Scioscia Angels

Despite a very poor season, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim seem willing to retain longtime manager Mike Scioscia.

According to Jon Heyman of Today’s Knuckleball, Scioscia’s job isn’t under serious threat despite the Angels sitting 20 games under .500 at 51-71.

Angels general manager Billy Eppler credits Scioscia with being a great communicator and handling the team’s many injuries expertly.

“I don’t see any reason why Mike Scioscia would not be managing the Angels next year,” Eppler said. “He’s been served a great deal of adversity, and he’s managed to keep everything positive, and kept fighting. A lot of people would have approached the situation with a less positive attitude, and Mike did not. Everything’s been great from that standpoint.”

Scioscia is viewed as old school in a game that’s trending the opposite direction, but the Angels seem happy enough with their manager, and they’re likely right that most of the team’s struggles aren’t down to him. It’s also worth noting that Scioscia has two years left on an extremely expensive contract, which may also give the Angels pause in considering firing him. The fact is, the roster simply isn’t good enough, and they’ve had to try to bring in guys like this just to plug the leaks, with little success.

While Antonio Brown has chosen not to hold out from Pittsburgh Steelers training camp, he has made it quite clear he wants a new contract before the season begins. The more time that passes, the less likely he is to get it.

Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com reported Tuesday that Brown and the Steelers have made no progress toward a new deal. La Canfora takes it a step further, predicting that Brown could be out of luck.

Brown has hauled in 265 passes over the past two seasons, which is an NFL record for number of catches in a two-year span. His base salary for 2016 is $ 6.25 million, meaning he will make less than half of what guys like Dez Bryant, Demaryius Thomas, A.J. Green and Julio Jones are getting.

The Steelers also have Brown under contract for next season at $ 8.7 million in base salary, which is still a bargain. He’d be far more likely to hold out next summer if the team still has not given him an extension.

For now, Brown may be stuck. It sounds like he has a better chance of making extra cash in side bets with Brandon Marshall than he does from his current employer.
