Jimmy Butler claims he’s a better wideout than Demaryius Thomas, Antonio Brown

Jimmy Butler is already the face of the Chicago Bulls, but he may have delusions about starring for the Chicago Bears as well.

In an interview with Mark Schwarz of ESPN on Saturday, Butler tried to claim that he’s a better wide receiver than All-Pros Demaryius Thomas and Antonio Brown and that he would be getting franchise tagged if he wasn’t competing for USA Basketball at the Rio Games this summer. Many of Butler’s Olympic teammates didn’t feel quite the same way.

While Butler’s generous estimation of his own football talents may have been a little tongue-in-cheek, it seems he would at least have the physical tools to survive in the NFL. The two-time All-Star stands 6-foot-7 and weighs 220 pounds. For reference, Brown is listed at 5-foot-10, 181 pounds while Thomas clocks in at 6-foot-3, 225 pounds. Butler also posted a max vert of 39 inches at the NBA Draft Combine in 2011.

Still, there are many more skills (efficient route running, speed/lateral movement, pass-catching ability, etc.) that go into being an elite wide receiver than just pure physical gifts. As such, Butler, who just signed a max contract with the Bulls last summer, is probably better off staying in his lane on the hardwood. But hey, maybe he still has a chance at starring in Invincible 2 with his buddy Mark Wahlberg.

Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler wait around to hug Jimmy Walker after winning the PGA

http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/Screen_Shot_2016-07-31_at_8.13.02_PM.0.0.png?fit=640%2C426

A couple American superstars and likely upcoming Ryder Cup teammates wait around for more than an hour to greet the new PGA Championship winner.

Jimmy Walker is not the biggest superstar in golf. He stays pretty even and deadpan at all times, and those who don"t follow the game closely had probably not heard much about him before Sunday"s major championship win.

But he"s definitely one of his colleagues" favorites, so it was not surprising to see superstars everyone knows, such as Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler, wait around an hour or more after their rounds ended to greet Walker as he came off the 18th green as a new major champion. Walker and Fowler are particularly close, the two spending time off the course together since they were partners at the 2014 Ryder Cup. Spieth was also a part of the house they all rented a few weeks ago for The Open at Royal Troon.

Jimmy Walker has been a professional golfer for 15 years, including the past 10 as a full-time member of the PGA Tour.

While he’s enjoyed a good bit of success, he has yet to get the words “major tournament winner” on his resume.

He is trying to change that at the 2016 PGA Championship, which is being played July 28-31 at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey. After two rounds of the rain-delayed event, Walker was tied with Robert Streb atop the leaderboard at 9-under, 2 strokes better than the field.

So who is Jimmy Walker? Keep reading to learn more about him:

Jimmy Walker Bio

Walker, 37, was born on January 16, 1979, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

His family moved to San Antonio, Texas, when Walker was a child. He was taught the game by his father, who was a scratch golfer. Walker attended New Braunfels Canyon High School before playing collegiately at Baylor University.

The 6-foot-2 golfer turned pro at 22 in 2001.

Walker is married to the former Erin Stiegemeier, whom he met in 2004 at a Nationwide Tour event where she was volunteering. The couple has two sons and the family now calls Boerne, Texas, home.

Walker’s home course is Cordilleria Golf Club, a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course, in Boerne.

Jimmy Walker Career Stats

Since turning pro 15 years ago, Walker has 8 career professional wins — 5 on the PGA Tour and 3 on the Web.com (formerly the Nationwide Tour). His first PGA Tour victory was at the October 2013 Frys.com Open and his most recent W was at the March 2015 Valero Texas Open, an event he won by 4 strokes over Jordan Spieth.

Walker, who is currently ranked 48th in the world, has amassed over $ 19 million in prize money on the PGA Tour, including nearly $ 1.5M in 2016.

2014 was a breakout season for Walker. That year, he made 23 of 27 cuts and won 3 times. He added 10 top 10s and 19 top 20 finishes. Walker’s wallet also got fatter as he won almost $ 5.8 million in course earnings, a career-best.

Walker has never won a major tournament, but has 3 top 10 finishes in 18 starts. Again, 2014 proved to be Walker’s finest season to date. He finished tied for 8th in the Masters, tied for 9th in the U.S. Open, tied for 26th at the Open Championship and tied for 7th in the PGA Championship — all career-best finishes.

The 2004 Nationwide Tour Player of the Year was also a member of the 2014 Ryder Cup team and 2015 Presidents Cup squad. Walker accounted for 2.5 points during the Ryder Cup, a 16.5 to 11.5 victory by Europe over the U.S. Walker won his Sunday’s singles match 3 & 2 over Lee Westwood.

For the 2016 year, Walker is 50th in the FedExCup Standings with 752 heading into the PGA Championship at Baltusrol. While Walker packs a wallop off the tee (300 yards per drive), his short-game has been outstanding this year, ranking in the top 10 in a number of approach categories.

He does so with a Titleist driver, irons, wedges, balls and a Scotty Cameron putter. Walker also uses a TaylorMade 3-wood.

Drive for show, putt for dough by day and an astrophotograher by night.

Astrophotographer? Yes, in his spare time Walker uses an astroimager to take photos of the skies at night, capturing stars, galaxies and nebulas, to name a few subjects.

Walker takes it seriously, as does Celestron, an optics company specializing in products like telescopes, microscopes and binoculars. The company is one of Walker’s sponsors.
