Cam Newton, the Carolina Panthers quarterback, got some flossing done in between downs Thursday night during the opener in Denver.

NBC commentator Cris Collinsworth announced what he — and the rest of the country — saw on live television. Twitter had some fun with it:

And for those of us who don’t make the time to floss, like our dental hygienists tell us, there’s these:

Then, of course, there were those who related it to the actual game:

Later, after Broncos running back C.J. Anderson scored a touchdown, NBC’s Al Michaels said, “That’s like going to the dentist.”

GM Bob Myers: Warriors will need ‘some time to evolve’

http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/bob-myers-warriors.jpg?fit=600%2C400

Even after they won an NBA-record 73 games last regular season, many seem to think that the Golden State Warriors will easily be able to surpass that mark after staging the coup of the offseason by landing former MVP Kevin Durant. But general manager Bob Myers wants to pump the brakes a bit.

In an interview with KNBR 680 on Wednesday, Myers attempted to temper expectations for 2016-17.

“I think a lot of people think we signed Durant and everything is great, which in reality, that is a really good thing,” Myers said, per CSN Bay Area. “But we have a lot of new parts. This is not a team like last year’s team, where we could just hit training camp in stride. As much as we like our roster, it’s gonna take some time to evolve.

“Even though we’re happy with the offseason, I do think we’re gonna have some turbulence,” Myers continued. “Because the other thing is, I think the scrutiny on the team is gonna be so high that any loss, anything that happens in a negative way, is gonna be exaggerated. It’s just gonna be, ‘I can’t believe they lost a home game,’ or ‘I can’t believe they lost two in a row,’ … people might write or say, ‘Well, they’re not as good as last year,’ so there will be some challenges and incorporating a really, really good player into our team.”

People tend to overlook continuity and team chemistry building when they assume that Golden State will smash the earth right off the bat. For as wildly gifted as Durant is, the Warriors will still have to reinvent themselves after the losses of two starters (Harrison Barnes and Andrew Bogut) as well as several key bench contributors (Leandro Barbosa, Festus Ezeli, Marreese Speights, and, to a lesser extent, Brandon Rush).

It’s always a culture shock to add a large-volume scorer to an established, championship-proven system where everybody already knows and is comfortable with their role. Durant will have his fair share of adjusting to do as well. The Warriors will figure it out eventually, because talent almost always finds a way to win out at the end of the day. But with a target on their back from every single team they play next season (a rarity for a non-defending champion), it will take some patience, as Myers is preaching.

Here Are More Changes To The UCL You Need To Know About

http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/PA-28469281.jpg?fit=512%2C341
Here Are More Changes To The UCL You Need To Know About

PA 28469281PA Images

As you’ll probably know, the Champions League is changing from the 2018/19 season.

The top four leagues from across Europe will be guaranteed four qualification places, with the co-efficient rating scrapped.

But that’s not enough for UEFA, according to German newspaper Bildwho report that kick off times are also set to change, to maximise TV revenue.

Currently, all Champions League games kick off at 7.45pm, except games played in Russia, which get underway at 5.30pm.

PA 28453565PA Images

But, under the new proposals, games would kick off at 6pm and 8pm, meaning the action on a Tuesday and Wednesday night would follow a similar pattern to the one that the Europa League currently does.

This way, every game can be televised and no one can miss out by being shown at the same time as another match.

We’ve all been there, when we have to choose to watch either Bayern Munich vs Juventus or Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid, but under the new idea, that could be a thing of the past.

PA 28469205PA Images

And it would also mean whoever owns the rights to show English teams in the Champions League will be able to show two teams on one night, rather than pick one over the other.

We often criticise governing bodies for messing around with our game too much, but if this is one step further towards killing the idea of a breakaway ‘Super League’, then that’s fine by me.

Kevin Owens has officially become the WWE Universal Champion (WWE.com)

Tonight’s Monday Night Raw was quite shocking to say the least. In the show’s main event, Triple H made a sudden return, attacking Seth Rollins and helping Kevin Owens win the WWE Universal Championship. The crowd in Houston went wild, as did thousands of WWE fans on social media, who were rooting for Owens but were dreading a possible Roman Reigns victory.

And that wasn’t all. There was also an incredible tag team match that saw Bayley teaming up with The New Day to fight Karl Anderson, Luke Gallows and Dana Brooke. Bayley had immediate chemistry with The New Day, and the team ultimately emerged victorious. Plus, Chris Jericho and Neville had a pretty entertaining match, as did Cesaro and Sheamus.

The only low points for a lot of fans were the match between Titus O’Neil and Darren Young and a segment between Paul Heyman and Stephanie McMahon, during which the two discussed Brock Lesnar’s behavior at SummerSlam.

As usual, Twitter was full of Raw reactions all throughout the show, with several WWE-related terms trending and with thousands of users sharing their favorite memes. Presented in the order that they were posted, here are some of the best reactions from August 29th’s episode of Monday Night Raw.

Tim Tebow’s Baseball Tryout: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/gettyimages-142954243.jpg?fit=640%2C447

Tim Tebow’s latest move to make his way back to professional sports is happening on Tuesday. With his NFL career stalled, Tebow has decided to fully pursue baseball, another sport at which he excelled in high school.

The former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback will host his showcase for Major League Baseball teams on August 30 in Los Angeles.

Here’s everything you need to know about the tryout:

1. The Invite Was Sent to 30 MLB Teams

Tebow’s invitation went out to 30 MLB teams, 20 of which are interested in the showcase, according to multiple reports.

ESPN released the name of 13 teams who are expected to be in attendance: Yankees, Marlins, Padres, Indians, Royals, Braves, Phillies, Reds, Rays, Red Sox, Twins, Angels and Dodgers. According to ESPN, this isn’t the first time Tebow will be in front of the Dodgers. He reportedly worked out privately for the team prior to the start of the 2016 season.

2. The Last Time Tebow Played Baseball Was in High School

In high school, Tebow was a two-sport athlete, playing football and baseball. As a junior at Nease High School in 2005, he hit .494 with four home runs and 30 RBIs to help his team reach its classification’s state semifinals.

Tebow mainly played in the outfield, but also spent some time on the mound. He stopped playing baseball his senior year to focus on football full time.

3. The Workout Will Consist of Live Baseball Drills

(Getty)

On Tuesday, the 29-year-old will run the 60-yard dash, take fly balls in the outfield, throw to the bases, take regular batting practice and live BP.

One scout told the New York Daily News that Tebow’s extended absence from baseball could be a problem. He said players who have gone as little as two years without regular hitting have a difficult time fully recovering their abilities.

“It doesn’t seem to be one of those skills that comes back after a long layoff,” the scout told the publication.

A major league scouting director told ESPN: “Eleven years [of not playing baseball], nobody can overcome that.”

However, that hasn’t stopped Tebow down from trying. For almost a full year, he has been training in Arizona and Los Angeles to improve his hitting and fielding skills.

4. Gary Sheffield Said Tebow Has the Potential to Succeed in the Majors

Former MLB All-Star Gary Sheffield said he believes Tebow has what it takes to find success in Major League Baseball. Sheffield explained why he was so impressed on MLB Network Radio.

“After I saw the first swing, I said, ‘I can work with that."”

However, Sheffield admitted he had his doubts at first.

“I said, ‘I don’t know how this is gonna work with all of these muscles,’ you know, because in baseball you don’t need a big chest because it prevents your flexibility.

“When I saw the bat speed that he had, I was shocked,” he said on the radio program. “When he got in his stance, I liked the way his balance was, it was centered, he was standing tall. And when you see his swing, it’s short and quick, and it has power behind it.”

Sheffield also spoke about Tebow’s dedication to making the transition to baseball.

“He’s very serious about it,” Sheffield said on the show. “You have to have a sense of focus that nobody can match, and that I know he has.”

He added that he likes Tebow’s swing better than Michael Jordan’s.

5. Former MLB catcher Chad Moeller Has Been Training Tebow

Tim Tebow

(Getty)

Chad Moeller has been working with Tebow to help prepare him for a baseball career. While he is confident in Tebow’s ability, he told USA Today that the former NFL player is very realistic about the possible outcomes.

Moeller referenced a statement Sheffield made which suggested Tebow could move up to the majors in one-and-a-half years:

“That’s still two years of minor league baseball,” Moeller told the paper. “That’s buses, or really bad flights, and not making close to what he’s making probably taking much better flights talking to people or doing TV or whatever. It’s a big, big difference. And so he knows those things.

“This is open and out front. Now, do I think a team is going to send him to rookie ball? No. You’re taking a 28-year-old. You know what you’re getting. It’s either going to work or it’s not, and it’s going to have to be fast-tracked.”

Moeller also made it clear to USA Today that Tebow is taking this seriously, and does not want to be a “sideshow.”

“Do I think (teams are) selfishly going to want to sell some seats? Yeah. And he knows it,” Moeller said to the publication. “And that’s why he really hopes (and) wants a team that thinks he can do this, and not just, ‘We’re going to send him to every level and sell a whole bunch of seats and sell a whole bunch of merchandise and we’re just going to have a sideshow.’

“He knows he’s partially a sideshow to start with. But he does want a team that actually thinks this is for real and thinks this is someone that can help us. And he’s going to have to go out and perform and show he can do this. There’s no way to simulate that.”

Maine-Endwell New York Little League: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/cq80rbzwgae3mkj1.jpg?fit=640%2C320

Little League World Series, Endwell Little League team

(Twitter)

Maine-Endwell, New York clinched the U.S. title in the Little League Series to advance to Sunday’s final.

“I don’t think I can describe it, maybe the boys can,” New York manager Scott Rush told the Associated Press. “Just an unbelievable feeling.”

New York will face the International champion South Korea on Sunday. The two teams won their championship games Saturday and are set to play Sunday for the Little League World Series title.

The last U.S. team to win the world championship was Huntington Beach, Calif., in 2011. Teams from Tokyo won in 2015, 2013 and 2012 while South Korea took the 2014 championship.

Maine-Endwell looks to end that streak today, here’s what you need to know about the Little League team:

1. They Are the First New York Team to Win the U.S. Title Since 1964

The team from Endwell, N.Y. clinched a 4-2 victory over Goodlettsville, Tenn. on Saturday, which marks the first title win for New York since Staten Island in 1964. Schenectady is the only other New York team to win the title, which was in 1954.

New York is undefeated and has shown their offensive power in the tournament, outscoring opponents 27-15. They now face South Korea who beat Panama 7-2 earlier Saturday in the international final.

2. Their Ace, Michael Mancini Struck Out 11 in the U.S. Final

Michael Mancini was dominant on the mound on Saturday against Goodlettsville. According to the Associated Press, he earned a standing ovation from Endwell fans at Lamade Stadium when he exited in the fifth.

The young pitcher allowed just one hit through 4 2/3 innings.

“The curveball is usually my biggest pitch because I know if I’m down in the count I can throw that and get back up and maybe get them out with that pitch,” Mancini told the AP. “So you never know what can happen with that pitch.”

His performance left opposing manager Joey Hale with praise.

“After the game I gave him a big hug and said, ‘You are something else,’” Hale told him, according to the Little League World Series website.

“He doesn’t make mistakes,” Hale said. “He’s truly polished. Kids at this age all have good breaking balls, but they don’t always throw them where they’re supposed to be thrown.

“If you watch Mancini, every ball is below the knees.”

3. Drake Sent a Video Message to the Team

Drake showed his support for New York. He sent a video message to the Maine-Endwell Little League Team, which included the pun, “I Hope It Ends Well.”

President Obama also called the team to congratulate them on their U.S. title win and wish them luck for Sunday’s final game.

4. They Lost in the Mid-Atlantic Region Final Last Year

New York fell to eventual World Series runner-up Red Land in the Mid-Atlantic Region final last year. Over half of the roster returned for this year’s team.

“From there on, I pretty much knew we were going to go a long way,” infielder Jack Hopko told the Associated Press. “Just like last year, we played well in regionals but this year we came out on top and this game today, I don’t really know how to describe it. It was a long road and we made it where we wanted to.”

The team prides itself for the camaraderie they share on and off the field, which was exemplified throughout the world series tournament. Maine-Endwell Little League was named the 2016 Jack Losch Little League Baseball World Series Team Sportsmanship Award winner. Voted on by the 16 participating teams, coaches, team hosts, and the staff within the Dr. Creighton J. Hale International Grove, the award recognizes the team that exemplifies a tremendous amount of sportsmanship. According to the Little League World Series website, they take into account the team’s behavior in the dormitories, dining hall and interview room as well as their performance on the field.

To see the full Maine-Endwell roster, click here.

5. They Come From a Small City

The team represents a city with a population of less than 12,000 on the outskirts of Binghamton.

When MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred visited the Little League World Series earlier this week, he admitted that he was partial.

“Some of you may know that I’m an upstate New York kid,” he said. “So, I don’t have to be impartial today. I’m rooting for the upstate New York kids.”
