Broncos LB Brandon Marshall, Colin Kaepernick"s college teammate, took a knee during the national anthem

Add Marshall to the list of NFL players who are protesting during the national anthem.

Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall kneeled during the national anthem just prior to the first regular season game of the 2016 NFL season.

As Denver prepared to face the Carolina Panthers on Thursday Night Football, Marshall kneeled and remained kneeling until the anthem concluded.

Marshall played with Colin Kaepernick at Nevada, and according to Paul Klee of the The Gazette, he supports Kaepernick and his ongoing protest during the national anthem.

"Kaep, he"s using his platform how he wants to use it, to reach the masses," Marshall said. "We have freedom of speech. But then we use our platform, and we get bashed for it. It’s almost like they want us to only go with the grain. And once we go against the grain, it’s an issue."

Thursday’s game was nationally televised on NBC.

Kaepernick began his protest of the national anthem during the preseason to call attention to the ongoing oppression of black Americans in the United States.

"I"ll continue to sit," Kaepernick said. "I"m going to continue to stand with the people that are being oppressed. To me, this is something that has to change. When there"s significant change and I feel that flag represents what it"s supposed to represent, and this country is representing people the way that it"s supposed to, I"ll stand."

Kaepernick has pledged the first million dollars of his salary this season as well as the proceeds from his jersey sales to organizations that fight against social inequality. The 49ers have also pledged $ 1 million to local Bay Area organizations that do the same.

Kaepernick’s 49ers teammate, safety Eric Reid, and Seahawks cornerback Jeremy Lane have also chosen to join in the protest of the national anthem.

Zlatan Gushes About Teammate, Football’s Newest Bromance Has Arrived

It’s safe to say Zlatan Ibrahimovic is enjoying life at Manchester United.

Well, except switching hotels because the Lowry didn’t have a swimming pool, but everything else is great.

He scored a stunning bicycle kick on his debut, and seems happy with his new team mates, if his latest quotes are anything to go by.

Wayne Rooney’s testimonial took place earlier this week, and Zlatan is preparing to play alongside the long-serving striker next season, and sees the Englishman as the perfect strike partner.

Speaking about Rooney, Zlatan said:

I said many years ago the perfect partner for a striker is Wayne Rooney. He works not only for himself but for the striker and the whole team. I’m absolutely happy to be one of the guys beside him.

I think he’s had a fantastic career. He’s been here a long time, I think he came when he was 18 and, like you said, it’s 12 years.

It’s not easy to be in top clubs for so many years. Players come and go. Top players are coming and going but he is still staying.

One of those top players is Ibrahimovic himself, and with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard pushing for a place in the United team, the future looks bright for Jose Mourinho’s side.

Rooney is expected to be a role model for Rashford and co. and Zlatan agrees that the 30-year-old is the perfect person for the job.

Ibrahimovic continued:

I think he is a perfect example for young players to look at and take after. He’s been playing such a long time for a top club and giving results year after year.

Not everybody can succeed with that but he is one of them.

I’m very happy I’m in his team and will do my best to help him win.

United’s season officially starts on Sunday when they take on Leicester City in the Community Shield, against the team Jose Mourinho faced before losing his job at Chelsea.
