MAC suspends officials involved in Central Michigan-Oklahoma State game

The Mid-American Conference has suspended the officiating crew involved in Saturday’s controversial Central Michigan-Oklahoma State game.

The MAC said in a statement that the crew will be suspended for two games after they wrongly allowed Central Michigan an untimed play that provided for the Chippewas’ miracle Hail Mary lateral play.

There had to be some sort of repercussion for these officials, particularly after it was clarified that the result could not be overturned. A two-week suspension seems only fair given how badly they got the end of the game wrong, though it will likely be of little consolation to Oklahoma State.

the Big 12 also announced a suspension for the replay crew for missing the chance to declare the game should have ended.

Big 12 says Oklahoma State game is final, cannot be overturned

The Big 12 has issued a statement regarding the controversial ending to the Oklahoma State-Central Michigan game on Saturday, and it doesn’t spell good news for the Cowboys.

In the statement, Big 12 head of officiating Walt Anderson cited a rule saying the outcome of the game is final and cannot be overturned.

The officials in the game incorrectly allowed Central Michigan a final untimed play at the end of the game where the Chippewas scored to win 30-27. The play should not have been allowed because an intentional grounding penalty by Oklahoma State on the previous play should have ended the game, per NCAA rules (more on that here).

Even the MAC officials doing the game said afterwards that they made a mistake. Despite the error, the Big 12 is saying the outcome of the game will not be changed.

Oklahoma State is now 1-1 after the loss.

This Sad Florida State Fan May End Up Being The Best Meme Of The College Football Season

The first half of Florida State’s game against Ole Miss could have gone much better for the Seminoles. The Rebels took a 28-13 lead into the locker room, but it seemed like their lead was much bigger than that. Florida State’s starting quarterback, Deondre Francois, looked like a dude who was starting for the first time, star running back Dalvin Cook couldn’t get going, and Ole Miss QB Chad Kelly carved up the FSU secondary (which, in fairness, managed to produce a turnover).

For FSU fans, it was probably rough, as a Florida State team that was expected to contend for a national title looked really flat. Sure, it was the first half of the first game of the year against a really good opponent, but for a team with national championship aspirations, you probably expect more.

One ‘Noles fan took this especially hard. We know nothing about him other than he has a spectacular mustache and a look on his face that makes all of us think “The Sound Of Silence” is going through his head at all times. Immediately after he showed up on the screen, the internet started making jokes. And my goodness were some of these jokes wonderful.
























Of course, some people decided to make jokes that implied that this dude has hot Colin Kaepernick takes like seemingly everyone else.











There were also plenty of jokes across other sports. Some made NASCAR jokes, while others took a swipe at the Golden State Warriors for losing in the NBA Finals.














And, obviously, there were jokes about Harambe. Because there are always jokes about Harambe.









While this dude may not be on the level of the screaming Stanford fan from the 2016 Rose Bowl, he is still wonderful. And hey, cheer up buddy. It’s a long season, so even if the ‘Noles lose on Monday night (which is no foregone conclusion, as Florida State charged back to take a 29-28 lead in the third quarter to make this a close ballgame), that doesn’t mean the season is over just yet.

Don"t tell the Tampa Bay Bucs, but Roberto Aguayo"s baby brother just hit 6 field goals for Florida State

The Aguayos are the greatest kicking family of all time. MOVE OVER, GRAMATICAS.

For the past few years, Florida State’s kicker had been Roberto Aguayo, one of the best in college football history. He was so good, he declared for the draft as a junior — rare for a kicker — and the the Buccaneers used a second-round draft pick on him -- even rarer. Through preseason, that has looked like a bad idea, but whatever.


But now Aguayo is gone, and who steps in for the Noles? Ricky Aguayo, Roberto’s younger brother. The younger Aguayo was ranked in the top five of kicker recruiting rankings by Kohl’s (a service that ranks high school kickers) as well as ESPN and Scout. (ESPN had Roberto sixth.) and although he had offers from other schools like Alabama, he didn’t visit anywhere besides FSU. I mean, why would he?


So far in the Noles’ season opener against Ole Miss, Aguayo has looked just as good as his big bro. He’s 6 for 6 with three 40-plus yard field goals.






We presume Aguayo was trying to say he has ice water in his veins, a la D’Angelo Russell. But Russell’s celebration is just kinda pointing to his veins. Aguayo is pretending to be actually injecting ice water into his veins.


I gotta say injection is a legitimately poor way to consume water. It doesn’t even really get water to the parts of your body that require water. This looks a lot more like how you consume [ILLEGAL SUBSTANCE] or [SUBSTANCE ATHLETES ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO CONSUME].


Celebrations aside, FSU should be in good shape with Baby Aguayo. Someone get Tampa Bay a first rounder in 2019 to lock this guy up.

Penn State kicker Joey Julius destroys kick returner

Some football kickers are content to kick the ball and that’s it. Others like to get their hands dirty and try to make a tackle here and there on special teams.

We certainly know where Joey Julius lies on that scale.

Julius, a bearded badboy who is listed at 5-foot-10 and 258 pounds on Penn State’s website, made a monster tackle during kick coverage against Kent State on Saturday. Take a look:

He might be America’s favorite kicker.

Minnesota defender takes out Oregon State QB with WWE-like clothesline (Video)

Minnesota defensive end Tai’yon Devers welcomed us all back to college football in a big way on Thursday night. But unlike the rest of us, Oregon State quarterback Darell Garretson wasn’t experiencing the same kind of joy.

Of course, that’s likely because Garretson was on the receiving end of a vicious WWE-like clothesline courtesy of Devers.

With Devers coming off the right side, Garretson rolled to his left and began looking upfield for a target. But before Garretson could even lock onto a receiver, Devers was all over him and took the quarterback down in a way that would make John “Bradshaw” Layfield happy.

Although Garretson was removed from his feet and slammed into the turf, he popped back up rather quickly. But it wasn’t fast enough to recover the fumble, which was pounced on by another Minnesota defender.

Later in the second quarter, Devers got Garretson a second time, once again forcing a fumble. That hit wasn’t nearly as devastating, however.

The Golden Gophers would go on to defeat the Beavers by a score of 30-23.

Penn State to honor Joe Paterno before Temple game

Penn State still does not understand that Joe Paterno is not a man who should be honored and will be doing just that.

The school announced Thursday in a press release that on Sept. 17 they will commemorate the 50th anniversary of Paterno’s first game as head coach of the Nittany Lions. This commemoration will take place before and throughout Penn State’s game against Temple.

Paterno died in Jan. 2012, months after being dismissed by the school for his role in the child sex abuse scandal that surrounded the program.

Recent information indicates Paterno was told about child sex abuse allegations against Jerry Sandusky as early as 1971 but did nothing to stop the abuse and allowed Sandusky to continue being a part of the program. Sandusky was not convicted of child sex abuse until June 2012, decades after he allegedly began sexually assaulting children.

LeBron James: ‘Ultimate Warrior’ T-Shirt Not a Golden State Diss

After snatching the Golden State Warriors’ souls in the 2016 NBA Finals, LeBron James’ wardrobe during the Cleveland Cavaliers’ title celebration drew quite a bit of attention.

King James says rocking an “Ultimate Warrior’ tee was purely coincidental.

LeBron also downplayed the possibility of starring in a “Space Jam” sequel this summer.

Per Business Insider:

So game seven, the play everybody talks about is your chasedown block. ESPN clocked you going 19 miles an hour to get from half court to where you could slam that ball against the backboard in just a few seconds. Where does that play rank for you? Is that your No. 1 LeBron play of all time?

 

James: “I would have to say, just coming off the top of my mind, that would definitely rank No. 1 — just because of the magnitude of the game and what was going on at that point in the game. […] I had to run through a couple guys and get around a couple guys to get to that position. And it was a big moment, not only for that particular moment in the game, but for Cleveland sports history now that you can look back upon it. A lot of people are saying so. […] A lot of people will base a game-winning jump shot, or dunk, or something that happened offensively. But for my legacy to be a block or something defensively to help us win, that’s the ultimate for me.”

 

You were wearing an Ultimate Warrior shirt when you got off the plane. People loved that — well, or hated it. Be honest: Did you pack that before you won game seven? How’d you wind up wearing that shirt?

 

James: “Well, it’s funny because my wife bought [it earlier]. She asked me who my favorite wrestlers of all time were, and I told her Sting, ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, Ultimate Warrior, The Undertaker, and Ric Flair. Those are some of my favorite guys ever from growing up. […] So, one day I get home from practice, and there are these T-shirts laying in my bedroom, and my wife purchased them from a store. I packed them all throughout the playoffs. And the shirt that I had on to come home in, I wore in Vegas, and my teammates sprayed me with Champagne. It got soaking wet, so I had to throw it in the trash, and the only other shirt I had in my bag was my Ultimate Warrior T-shirt.”
