This Is Why Klopp Changed The Goal Nets At Liverpool

This Is Why Klopp Changed The Goal Nets At Liverpool

If you’re reading this then chances are you know everything that happened at Anfield over the weekend.

4-1 was the score as the final whistle was blown; The Reds had fundamentally destroyed the title holders in front of their largest home crowd since 1977 – but was there more to it than just liquid football?

It’s hard to argue that Liverpool looked almost impeccable against Leicester but Mr Klopp had made one minor, bizarre change just before the first whistle – and it could’ve made all the difference, reports Liverpool FC.

GettyImages 528512484Getty

For the past four years, the nets of the Anfield goals have been lined with red netting – but Jurgen made sure they were changed to a classic white ahead of the clash with Leicester.

Why? Because on Thursday night’s training session, Klopp and the training staff at Liverpool noticed that the red netting blended in way too much with the sea of red shirts at the Kop end.

On a typical game night at Anfield both ends of the stadium are brimming with home team shirts, and if you’re trying to take a decent shot, apparently the red netting is indistinguishable from the crowd making it significantly harder to see the goal.

GettyImages 601954538Getty

And whether you agree with Klopp’s reasoning or not it’s hard to argue against him considering the team in red bagged four goals against Ranieri’s reigning men.

As Alan Partridge would’ve said numerous times if he was watching the game: ‘Shittttt………..did you see that? He must have a foot like a traction engine!’

ESPN’s Trent Dilfer Tells Back-Up QB Kaepernick It’s His Job to ‘Be Quiet,’ Sparking This Fiery Response

http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/kaepernick-1.jpg?fit=512%2C345
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick on Monday responded to criticism from one ESPN analyst who said Sunday that it’s the job of a backup quarterback to “be quiet.”

“This is a backup quarterback whose job it is to be quiet and sit in the shadows,” EPSN’s Trent Dilfer said. “Yet he [Kaepernick] chose a time when all of a sudden he became the center of attention. And it has disrupted that organization.” Dilfer was commenting on Kaepernick’s repeated refusal to stand during the playing of the national anthem.

Following the 49ers win over the Los Angeles Rams on Monday, Kaepernick fired back at the commentator.

“I think that’s one of the most ridiculous comments I’ve heard. The fact that you say, ‘You’re a backup quarterback. Stay in your place,’ that’s an issue,” Kaepernick said.

“I would ask him to really have a conversation with the families of people that have been murdered and see if he still feels that way,” Kaepernick added. “Because I bet you he doesn’t, just because he hasn’t experienced that type of oppression.”

This Sad Florida State Fan May End Up Being The Best Meme Of The College Football Season

http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/screen-shot-2016-09-05-at-10-31-53-pm.jpg?fit=640%2C354

sad florida state fan

ESPN

The first half of Florida State’s game against Ole Miss could have gone much better for the Seminoles. The Rebels took a 28-13 lead into the locker room, but it seemed like their lead was much bigger than that. Florida State’s starting quarterback, Deondre Francois, looked like a dude who was starting for the first time, star running back Dalvin Cook couldn’t get going, and Ole Miss QB Chad Kelly carved up the FSU secondary (which, in fairness, managed to produce a turnover).

For FSU fans, it was probably rough, as a Florida State team that was expected to contend for a national title looked really flat. Sure, it was the first half of the first game of the year against a really good opponent, but for a team with national championship aspirations, you probably expect more.

One ‘Noles fan took this especially hard. We know nothing about him other than he has a spectacular mustache and a look on his face that makes all of us think “The Sound Of Silence” is going through his head at all times. Immediately after he showed up on the screen, the internet started making jokes. And my goodness were some of these jokes wonderful.

Of course, some people decided to make jokes that implied that this dude has hot Colin Kaepernick takes like seemingly everyone else.

There were also plenty of jokes across other sports. Some made NASCAR jokes, while others took a swipe at the Golden State Warriors for losing in the NBA Finals.

And, obviously, there were jokes about Harambe. Because there are always jokes about Harambe.

While this dude may not be on the level of the screaming Stanford fan from the 2016 Rose Bowl, he is still wonderful. And hey, cheer up buddy. It’s a long season, so even if the ‘Noles lose on Monday night (which is no foregone conclusion, as Florida State charged back to take a 29-28 lead in the third quarter to make this a close ballgame), that doesn’t mean the season is over just yet.

ESPN"s calling this the best Week 1 CFB schedule ever. Well, it"s close enough for now!

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/pjimage__15_.0.0.jpg?fit=640%2C426

Good morning! This is the Read Option, your daily college football newsletter. Sign up for this in your inbox!

College football fans have had 2016’s opening weekend schedule circled for about a year and a half now. As non-conference games like Alabama-USC joined games like LSU-Wisconsin, and with Houston-Oklahoma gaining Playoff ramifications thanks to the Cougars’ rise, it became clear that something special was happening.

As of a few days ago, ESPN’s now repeatedly billing it as the greatest college football opening weekend ever.

It’s a very good weekend. It has four games between AP Top 25-ranked teams (LSU-Wisconsin, Georgia-North Carolina, Bama-USC, FSU-Ole Miss) and at least half a dozen other games that anybody anywhere should be interested in.

But best ever? Nah.

CBS Sports found four seasons since just 1985 with at least as many ranked-vs.-ranked games in Week 1. 1998 had double as many. And while spreading all this across five nights sounds nice and means Notre Dame-Texas and FSU-Ole Miss don’t get thrown on during other big games, the best game before Saturday is ... uh ... Kansas State-Stanford?

What is special here: we’re getting back to the way the sport should work. Good teams should play good teams from other parts of the country before bowl season.

What’s changed?

For one thing, in 2006, the NCAA started allowing each team to play a 12-game schedule every year. Most teams added cupcake opponents. Colleges like easy wins and home-game profits, and every team now has room for plenty of those per year.

One of the College Football Playoff’s stated goals is to encourage teams to play tougher schedules. Athletic directors talk about the perceived pressure to arrange quality matchups (because fans can’t yell at you if your coach can’t handle the elite schedule you gave him, at least for a while), the Big Ten and SEC have mandated their teams to play at least one Power 5 non-conference opponent per season, and neutral-sites have emerged as a way to make better games happen. So sure, the Playoff’s helped.

Probably more important, though: ESPN’s investment in college football. Kurt Dargis, ESPN’s director of programming and acquisitions, in an interview with Saturday Blitz:

It’s kind of a three-party process between the schools, the organizers and us. It takes about that long to get these done. There are some big headliner games beyond this season which we’ve already begun working on. Next year we have Michigan and Florida in Arlington. Alabama is playing Florid State in Atlanta on Saturday and Tennessee is playing Georgia Tech in Atlanta on Monday night. BYU is playing LSU in Houston…so, we’re working on those games in the outer years and our goal is always to have those things done two, three or four years ahead of time.

He’s talking specifically about kickoff times and which networks to put these games on, but there’s no question that ESPN’s influence throughout the sport has helped push schools toward games worthy of opening-weekend spotlights. And when ESPN helps make a good weekend, as ESPN"s done here, ESPN will let you know about it. That"s fine!

(Those "12th games" are arriving in Week 2 this year, by the way, with likely no games between AP-ranked teams. Week 3 looks great, though!)

South Carolina got its highest-rated commit in years, and Bud explains why it’s an even bigger deal than it sounds.

Let’s talk through the 2016 season #narratives we’re already sick of! The comments are mostly people arguing about whether the SEC’s overrated or not, so I think the king of all arguments is still the king.

It’s not easy to see how Auburn beats Clemson, other than Jordan-Hare madness or whatever.

Urban Meyer doesn’t agree with a player’s year-long suspension, meaning it was a school rule of some sort.

If Tyrone Swoopes were to have some big moments as Texas’ starting QB this year, that would be pretty neat.

Hell yeah. Noel Devine, producer of some of the greatest highlight videos ever, is returning to WVU to finish his degree.

PREVIOUS: Combining Boston College’s defense and Texas Tech’s offense would give you the country’s best team. Combining their other units would give you the worst.

This Chart Tells You Which Team Scores The Most ‘Fergie Time’ Goals

This Chart Tells You Which Team Scores The Most ‘Fergie Time’ Goals

Aguero Getty QPRGetty

The phrase ‘Fergie time’ has become a popular part of football culture over the past decade.

It comes from Sir Alex Ferguson’s famous watch tapping back in Manchester United’s glory days, where seemingly every week there’d be extra minutes added on at the end of games – in which the Red Devils would score.

But, the Daily Mail has done some research, and it turns out United are not even close to the top of the table when it comes to most goals scored in injury time in the Premier League era.

Rashford Getty vs Hull 1Getty

No, it actually turns out that Liverpool are the side that have scored the most injury time winners, with United way down in fifth place – ironically where they finished in real life last season.

Liverpool’s 28 goals is seven clear of second placed Arsenal (also where they finished last season), with Chelsea and Everton making up the top four.

Then come United in fifth with 18, way ahead of Manchester City who have bagged just ten – although one of those was Sergio Aguero’s incredible winner against Queens Park Rangers.

Bruce Getty MUGetty

It was the Red Devils who made ‘Fergie time’ a thing though, starting with Steve Bruce’s header against Sheffield Wednesday back in 1993 – when Marcus Rashford (who scored United’s latest winner against Bruce’s former side, Hull, this weekend) wasn’t even born.

And who can forget Michael Owen’s winner for United against Liverpool in 2009? And Federico Macheda’s momentum shifting strike against Aston Villa later that year?

But it turns out they’re nowhere near Liverpool in terms of numbers of late winners, with Stan Collymore’s clincher against Newcastle United in 1996 the most famous of the lot, as the Geordies managed to blow winning the Premier League after leading by 12 points in April.

Here’s the full top ten:

  1. Liverpool – 28
  2. Arsenal – 21
  3. Chelsea – 20
  4. Everton – 19
  5. Manchester United – 18
  6. Newcastle United – 17
  7. Tottenham Hotspur – 17
  8. Aston Villa – 13
  9. Wigan Athletic – 12
  10. Bolton Wanderers – 11

The Final Five, Michael Phelps and fake Ryan Lochte made this the most sports VMAs ever

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/cap.0.0.png?fit=640%2C426

So much sports going on at the VMAs!

The 2016 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) were a blast and featured a lot of familiar faces from the sports world. Michael Phelps introduced a performance by Future and revealed that he was listening to Future during his infamous death stare moment at the Olympics.

Iman Shumpert surprised everyone when he made an appearance in Kanye West"s new music video.

The U.S. gymnastics team, including Simone Biles, Laurie Hernandez, Madison Kocian and Aly Raisman, presented the Best Female Video. Unfortunately, Gabby Douglas was dealing with a health issue and unable to attend. The winner, of course, was Beyonce.

The performance of the night, hands down, was Beyonce"s. She was introduced by her friend, Serena Williams, who was also featured in Beyonce"s "Lemonade."

Beyonce"s performance included her taking a baseball bat to a camera (Okay really this is just an excuse to put more Beyonce in the post).

In a surprise move, Ryan Lochte showed up to present the Video of the Year award.

And finally, throughout the show we were graced with the presence of DJ Khaled.

Four Men Reportedly Jump UFC Fighter Outside Vegas Club. You Can Probably Guess Their Odds on This Gamble.

http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/nick-diaz-620x364.jpg?fit=620%2C364
When UFC fighter Nick Diaz entered a bathroom outside a Las Vegas club early last Wednesday morning, he and another man accidentally bumped into each as they crossed paths.

The guy apparently didn’t know who Diaz is, given he reportedly starting jawing with the fighter.

Nick Diaz (Image source: YouTube)

Nick Diaz (Image source: YouTube)

TMZ Sports reported that Diaz apologized to the man, saying he didn’t want trouble — and then three other guys joined in against Diaz and things got physical.

“I didn’t start it,” Diaz told TMZ Sports afterward. “They didn’t know who I was.”

Diaz attempted to defend himself, TMZ said — but when he got hit hard on the head, all bets apparently were off, as the brawl exited the bathroom and hit the Bellagio casino floor.

A club rep told TMZ the attackers were swinging chairs and were clearly the aggressors — but Diaz reportedly dispatched them all quickly, taking them to the ground and using choke holds on the men.

Diaz was asked by the club if he wanted to press charges, but Diaz told TMZ that wasn’t necessary: “They got the worst of it.”

This Weekend Has Shown Homophobia In Football Is As Prominent As Ever

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/this-weekend-has-shown-homophobi.jpg?fit=640%2C360
This Weekend Has Shown Homophobia In Football Is As Prominent As Ever

GettyImages 592290950Getty

As the dust settled on the Saturday fixtures, we saw a few things we already suspected confirmed.

For as good as Liverpool can be, they can also be God awful. Arsenal will never change with Arsene Wenger at the helm, and Manchester City look like one of only two teams capable of winning the league.

Not exactly breaking news. However, a much more alarming truth was once again thrust into the limelight, after tweets from Andre Gray – Burnley’s second goalscorer of the day – emerged.

Said tweets were from way back in 2012, and painted the footballer in a horrific light, with racism, sexism and homophobia being displayed, and it is the latter of the three that seemed to make the most headlines.

burnTwitter/ Andre Gray
gray1Twitter / Andre Gray

Why? Well for some time now, more and more attention has been focused on the fact that not only is homophobia in football a huge issue, but that despite attempts to raise awareness and combat the issue, nowhere near enough is actually being done.

Ask yourself this – how many gay footballers are there in the Premier League?

The answer is short, but it certainly isn’t sweet.

Zero, apparently.

This is despite there being 22 first team players in a squad, if not more – and 20 teams in the top flight. That’s not even taking into account the lower leagues or other top leagues such as La Liga or Serie A.

football vFootball v Homophobia

It’s clearly not the case, with players fearful of coming out because of their reputations, abuse from fans, exclusion by teammates, and the stigma they feel they would attract.

For as many times as an organisation like Kick It Out manage to make a positive step in the fight against homophobia (and the same of course goes for racism and sexism), someone like Gray airs downright homophobic views, and the progress made takes ten steps back.

It’s something that an upcoming Rhys Champman film, WONDERKID, which tackles the issue of homophobia in football, focuses on.

The film makes the point that despite there being 5,000 professional footballers in the UK, not one is openly gay – and it’s 2016.

It should not be an issue, but sadly it seems to be.

During a radio interview with the BBC, Amal Fashanu claimed that she knows of seven gay footballers in the Premier League, yet they’re too scared to come out due to the level of homophobia still in football.

Cast your mind back to the start of last season.

National tabloids ran stories claiming two footballers were preparing to come out – yet this has not happened – and you have to wonder if the huge media attention and the subsequent unsavoury bookies’ odds (which let you bet on a host of players you thought might be gay) had a lot to do with it.

wonder kidWonderkid/ Gay Times

If nothing else, it proved that very little has actually changed, and while people like Gray issue hastily written apologies after their ‘former’ views are aired, and claim to be reformed characters, even if this is the case, the damage is already done.

Tweets like this are not helpful in the slightest, and especially from Joey Barton, given he has actually done a fair amount to help the fight against homophobia in football, offering his views in documentaries when few others would.

bartonTwitter / Joey Barton

Simply forgetting about it, accepting that someone is allowed to say that and then apologise is a foolish approach, and one that will see the same issues arise again and again.

Focusing on why people say things like this, and addressing their ignorance and helping to educate them, is essential.

More than anything else, there is a lack of education at times in sport – football in particular – and condemning someone like Gray for their tweets is one thing, but steps need to be taken to ensure things like this do not happen again.

rainbowJoeyBarton.com

Football v Homophobia and Stonewall have tried to do this – back in 2010 an anti-homophobia video was scheduled to be screened, yet pulled at the eleventh hour, after claims it was ‘too hard hitting’.

Quite what that means, you can only wonder – is it harder hitting than someone claiming that gay people should ‘burn’ or ‘die’? Doubtful, given those are phrases associated with hate crimes.

pa ricketPA

Stonewall spoke to the BBC and claimed:

While these tweets are of course historic, unfortunately homophobic attitudes and language continue to be an issue in sport, whether that’s on the pitch, in the terraces or on social media.

It’s extremely important that we work together to kick these attitudes out of sport and create supportive and inclusive environments that enable everyone to feel accepted without exception.

kick1

Ironically, it is Gray who may now be afforded the chance to not only atone for his views in private – something he claims has already happened, with the person he was back in 2012 not the person he is now, apparently – but also in public.

He is now a Premier League footballer, with the considerable influence that brings, and simply has to use his social media platform and influence over young fans to show that his tweets were wrong, misplaced and disgraceful.

Apologies are one thing, and he has issued a rather grovelling one – that focuses on how he has been educated and changed as a person – but now Gray needs to help others who hold similarly misplaced views to do the same.

Alex Rodriguez not joining Marlins, any other team ‘this season’

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Alex-Rodriguez-4.jpg?fit=600%2C407

Alex Rodriguez

Alex Rodriguez has no plans to play professional baseball again — at least in 2016.

On Monday, Rodriguez’s spokesman Ron Berkowitz released a statement putting to rest any speculation about A-Rod signing with the Miami Marlins or any other MLB team.

With A-Rod’s Yankees playing career officially over and Miami having lost Giancarlo Stanton for the season to an injury, the Marlins admitted they would explore the possibility of signing the 41-year-old. One reporter even insisted the union was going to happen.

While A-Rod is one of the best players in MLB history, it’s clear his best days are behind him. He’s only hitting .200 this season and was hardly getting playing time on a mediocre Yankees team, which led to a small rift with his former manager in Rodriguez’s final week. There’s no reason to think A-Rod would make the Marlins or any other team better given the way he has played.

Report: Brian McCann clears waivers, eligible to be dealt this month

The Great Yankee Purge of 2016 could be close to claiming another victim.

According to a report by Jon Heyman of Today’s Knuckleball on Sunday, catcher Brian McCann has cleared waivers and is now eligible to be dealt before the waiver trade deadline at the end of August.

“Out with the old, in with the new” appears to be the motto of the Yankees these days with the impending retirements of Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez and a non-waiver trade deadline firesale that saw them move veterans like Aroldis Chapman, Andrew Miller, and Carlos Beltran in favor of restocking their farm system. McCann could be next on the chopping block.

The 32-year-old has a .233/.330/.417 slash line this season with 15 home runs and 44 RBIs. Heyman also notes that the Atlanta Braves, McCann’s former team, could have interest in a reunion. But McCann has a full no-trade clause and is still owed $ 34 million over the next two seasons, both of which could impede any potential deal.

Is This Paul George’s Signature Sneaker?

http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/paulgeorge1.jpg?fit=640%2C394

Paul George’s arrival as a superstar was clear as day when he got the cover of NBA 2K17. His new status crystalized even more with reports of the huge payday coming his way. The only thing left for Paul George to do was get a signature sneaker, which could be happening soon.

All indications are that the sneaker in the photo up top could be the All-Star’s very first silhouette.

Check out the flywire in the midfoot, a staple of recent Nike sneakers. The strap, which has been seen in the KD 7, Kyrie 2 and Soldier X recently, is also a modern Nike favorite. And of course PG’s logo on the tongue is also a pretty big clue.

Reports suggest these could be ready for retail by March 2017, if this is actually the PG1. Keep it locked for official confirmation on release dates and pricing.

I Got This

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Lauren-Cox-WP.png?fit=265%2C178

Usually a coach, parent or relative helps coordinate our PUNKS features. So the fact that Lauren Cox handled all the logistics for this one by herself—securing the facility, coordinating dates with our photographer, setting up an interview time—was a first. Turns out, the 6-4 Baylor commit, ranked as the No. 1 girls prospect in nation for the Class of 2016, felt more comfortable being the point-person.

A quick convo with the future Lady Bears forward, and you realize that stepping up to meticulously administer something like this is just a small reflection of the self-discipline and independence that she’s garnered over the years, after dealing with some challenges that life forced upon her at a very young age.

Lauren-Cox-3

“I have type-2 diabetes and that’s probably the biggest obstacle that I’ve had to overcome,” says Cox, who was diagnosed with the condition as a second grader in 2005. In the years since, it has prevented her from starting some games. “It changed my whole life. It’s a huge responsibility that I have to deal with every day. I have to watch my carbs and monitor my blood sugar, especially when working out [because] my blood sugar can go crazy sometimes, so I just have to make sure I’m responsible with it and keep checking it.”

And just as she’s been able to persevere through the condition from the start, her dominance on the basketball court has been just as imposing.

As a junior, she led Flower Mound (TX) High to its first-ever state tournament appearance in school history, and was named the Gatorade State Player of the Year for Texas. This past season, she once again led her squad back to a state tourney appearance, again claiming the state POY hardware after averaging 21.8 points, 12.7 rebounds, 3.4 blocks and 2.2 assists per game, leading the Jaguars to a 23-7 record. The last three summers, she’s traveled the world with USA Basketball, claiming gold medals at the 2013 FIBA Americas U16 Championship, 2014 FIBA U17 World Championship and 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship.

An inside-outside threat, Cox has the ability to do damage in the post or out on the perimeter. She derives from a basketball family—her mother hooped at SMU and her father played ball at Central Methodist. When it came time to make her college decision, despite having her choice of scholarships to the nation’s top programs at her disposal, proximity and familiarity played the biggest role.

“I’ve always gone on visits [to Baylor] ever since I was in seventh grade, headed down to camps,” recalls Cox. “I’ve gotten to know the coaches really well. When I went on my visit, it just felt right. I also wanted to stay close to home so it was a perfect choice for me. The ride, it’s like an hour and 45 minutes.”

In Waco, she’ll be joined by another top-10 Class of 2016 national prospect: shooting guard Natalie Chou, a 6-1 scorer with whom she is very familiar.

“She goes to Plano West, which is one of our rivals in the district,” says Cox of Chou. “We have played against each other for four years now. And now we’re finally getting to play with each other. It’s always been fun playing against her and just the friendly competition we’ve had the last few years. But now we’re both really excited of what we can do together.”

Kemba Walker on Jeremy Lin: ‘He deserves to be a starter in this league’

One guy who’s happy to see Jeremy Lin get his chance to run the show in Brooklyn is former Hornets teammate Kemba Walker.

In an interview with Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer on Thursday, Walker heaped praise on his ex-backup, saying that he deserves his opportunity to start.

“I hate to see him go, but at the same time I’m definitely happy for him,” Walker said. “He deserves to be a starter in this league. He’s such a great player and he proved that last season. There were games where I was off and he carried the team.”

Walker, 26, enjoyed the best statistical season of his career in 2015-16. But Lin’s effectiveness running the second unit took much of the burden off Walker’s shoulders and was instrumental to Charlotte’s surprise sixth-seed playoff berth last year.

For Lin, who signed a three-year deal with the Nets this offseason and will get the chance to be their full-time starting point guard, his rim-attacking mentality and productivity operating out of the pick-and-roll are very much starter-caliber material. It’s great to see that Walker, who is himself becoming one of the Association’s top young point guards, thinks so too.

This Prophetic Olympian Sent Out A Tweet That Predicted Her Own Future Five Years Ago

Every athlete dreams of making it to the Olympics some day. It’s a lifelong goal, something that most people strive towards from the time that they’re a kid.

Plenty of Olympic hopefuls will do things to motivate themselves to one day get to the grandest stage in sports. You’ll hear these stories during the Olympics every year, and at Rio 2016, you’re going to hear the story of Morolake Akinosun over and over. Back in 2011, Akinosun tweeted this:

For someone who is 17, this is a really ambitious set of goals. For most people, your No. 1 goal when you’re 17 is to pass a high school trigonometry exam, but for Akinosun, it was to graduate from college and make it onto the U.S. Olympic Track and Field team.

Well, let’s fast forward to Saturday afternoon. It’s been five years since Akinosun sent her original tweet, and she decided to let everyone know that she called her shot.

That’s right, Akinosun is one of the best sprinters in the United States. She competed at the 2016 NCAA Track and Field Championships earlier this year for the University of Texas and recorded top-4 finishes in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and 4×400 meter relay. Additionally, she competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials and earned a spot on the team that’s heading down to Rio a little later in this month in the 4×100 meter relay pool. While it’s not guaranteed that she’ll compete, she still earned the opportunity to head down, which is amazing.

This is normally the spot where someone would say that Akinosun should try playing the lottery next, but in all seriousness, this is quite the accomplishment. Back when she was a teenager, she strived to get a degree and make it to the 2016 Olympics. While she’s going to have to wait a few months for the first thing, Akinosun has accomplished the second thing, and it’s really admirable that she set goals, worked hard, and eventually achieved them.
