Mets’ silence casts next Jacob deGrom start into question

http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/jacob-degrom-hair.jpg?fit=556%2C402

Jacob deGrom

There is apparently a serious possibility that Jacob deGrom won’t make his next start for the New York Mets.

After laboring through five innings and allowing three runs to the Marlins on Thursday, deGrom called the trainer into the clubhouse after he was pulled from the game. There was an insistence from all involved that everything was fine, but manager Terry Collins seemed to indicate that wasn’t the case when speaking to the media on Friday.

The Mets are being tight-lipped at the moment, but it wouldn’t be a big surprise if something were bothering deGrom. He has allowed 16 runs in his last 14.2 innings. It’s just the latest blow in what has been a trying, injury-riddled season for the reigning NL champs, and frustration has mounted inside and outside of the clubhouse. A deGrom injury of any length could be a fatal blow to what remains of their wildcard hopes.

Coach K smacks down reporter about boat question

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/coach-k-hair.jpg?fit=455%2C312

The U.S. men’s and women’s basketball teams are not staying in the Olympic village along with the rest of the athletes at the Summer Games in Rio. Instead, they’re staying aboard a cruise ship, which has led to interest and questions from the media.

After Team USA beat Venezuela 113-69 on Monday in Group A play, men’s coach Mike Krzyzewski was asked by a French reporter about the team’s accommodations. He had quite the response to the reporter.

“Well, we don’t live on a boat. We’re staying on a boat,” Coach K said via the Raleigh News & Observer’s Luke DeCock. “I actually live in Durham, N.C., and have a swimming pool. Once in a while I get on a raft and lie in there. But I’ve never really thought about living on a boat. Since 1992 the U.S. teams have stayed in different locations and because of the accommodations here, that was good.

“And it’s not our boat. We’re not the only people on the boat. There are other people on the boat that we see, that we say ‘good morning’ to, ‘hello.’ We’ve actually made friends on the boat. I never knew I would have boat friends. In fact now that I’m talking about it, I might go buy a boat. And put it in my — I’d have to have a bigger swimming pool. It’s a place to stay and we’re here to play basketball.

“And I’ll tell you what, the people in Rio have been unbelievable as far as their treatment of us and their hospitality. We’re fortunate to be here for the Olympics whether we’re on a boat or not.”

Who knew that one simple question like that would lead to such a lengthy and explosive response from the coach? You give a rant like that and people get scared off of asking questions about it in the future, which may have been the coach’s motivation.

Between this and his finger-wagging at an opposing player back in March, we’re seeing more and more that there’s a testy side to Coach K.

DeMarcus Cousins has perfect response to odd question from Olympic reporter

Believe it or not, The Boogie Man has a highly refined sense of humor too.

Kings center DeMarcus Cousins, who is competing for USA Basketball at the Rio Games this summer, was asked a strange question by an Olympic reporter on Thursday and delivered the perfect retort in response, per Andrew Keh of the New York Times.

Who would’ve thought that the All-Star big man could be so meta? Of course, Cousins has a rich history of priceless encounters with the international media, so this is really nothing all that new. Credit to him for putting forth a witty, philosophical answer to a bizarre question when in his mind he was probably thinking to himself, “Lord give me the strength.”

Reebok Question Mid ‘A5’ & ‘EBC’

http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/reebok-question-mid-a5-ebc.jpg?fit=480%2C360

Jadakiss’ relationship with Allen Iverson and Reebok dates back to 2001, when he hopped on the mic for one of the best sneaker commercials of all time.

15 years later, ‘Kiss and Reebok are teaming up again, this time with the proud son of Yonkers behind the drivers’ seat. Here’s more from the brand:

The Question Mid “A5” takes color inspiration from the OG A5 sneaker, with a sleek black leather and mesh upper accented by reflective grey piping and toe box.  Hits of red adorn the sole with a distinctive red Question logo at the collar and a Roman numeral “V” logo at the heel.

In addition to working with Jada, Reebok is also linking up with Killa Cam and Entertainer Basketball Classic founder Greg Marius, for another pair of Questions.

The “EBC” colorway is a tribute to AI’s first trip to the Rucker, when he and Stephon Marbury lit the legendary park on fire, a week before the ’96 Draft. An upper made of jersey mesh is complemented by gold suede and navy leather, and “Standing Room Only” on the heel. Speaking of fire, these are fire.

The “A5” drops on August 12 and the “EBC” is available on August 5, both for $ 140, at Reebok.com, Jimmy Jazz, Footaction, Finish Line and Champs.

DeAndre Hopkins roster bonus puts holdout in question

http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/deandre-hopkins.jpg?fit=600%2C364

DeAndre Hopkins

Veterans were scheduled to arrive at Houston Texans training camp at midnight, but DeAndre Hopkins did not report. That’s because the talented wide receiver is unhappy with his current contract and holding out for a new one.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Tania Ganguli report the news about Hopkins and say the receiver actually showed up at camp Friday but took some belongings from his locker and did not officially report.

Drafted in the first round in 2013, Hopkins is under contract with the Texans for two more seasons after the team picked up his 2017 option. He is set to earn around $ 9.3 million over the next two seasons.

Hopkins caught 111 passes for 1,521 yards and 11 touchdowns last season — numbers that compare favorably to any receiver in the league. The year before he had 76 catches for 1,210 yards and six touchdowns. He has a very good argument for being deserving of more money and is using the holdout as leverage to get it.

But one thing that could complicate his holdout is the roster bonus he is due. Hopkins is only set to make $ 1 million this season. He is facing fines of $ 40,000 a day during his holdout. His roster bonus is for $ 445,000 — almost half of his season’s salary — and that will only be paid if he is on the roster on Wednesday. Because of his holdout, the Texans could put Hopkins on the reserve/did not report list. That means Hopkins’ holdout is facing a serious deadline.
