ESPN’s Trent Dilfer Tells Back-Up QB Kaepernick It’s His Job to ‘Be Quiet,’ Sparking This Fiery Response

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick on Monday responded to criticism from one ESPN analyst who said Sunday that it’s the job of a backup quarterback to “be quiet.”

“This is a backup quarterback whose job it is to be quiet and sit in the shadows,” EPSN’s Trent Dilfer said. “Yet he [Kaepernick] chose a time when all of a sudden he became the center of attention. And it has disrupted that organization.” Dilfer was commenting on Kaepernick’s repeated refusal to stand during the playing of the national anthem.

Following the 49ers win over the Los Angeles Rams on Monday, Kaepernick fired back at the commentator.

“I think that’s one of the most ridiculous comments I’ve heard. The fact that you say, ‘You’re a backup quarterback. Stay in your place,’ that’s an issue,” Kaepernick said.

“I would ask him to really have a conversation with the families of people that have been murdered and see if he still feels that way,” Kaepernick added. “Because I bet you he doesn’t, just because he hasn’t experienced that type of oppression.”

49ers Fan’s Fiery Response to Colin Kaepernick Refusing to Stand for National Anthem Goes Viral

A self-described “lifelong” San Francisco 49ers fan had a fiery response to quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s refusal to stand for the national anthem in protest of America’s “oppression” of black people.

“He says he’s oppressed, making $ 126 million,” the man says in the video. “Well, Colin, here’s my salute to you. Here’s my salute to you sitting on the bench for the rest of the year; sitting while you pee for the rest of your life; my salute to you.”

The 49ers fan then set his Kaepernick jersey on fire while playing the national anthem. He made sure to take off his hat and put his hand over his heart for the duration of the patriotic tune.

The flames seemed to be in sync with the national anthem as the jersey was practically reduced to ashes and fell to the ground as the song came to an end.

After a photo went viral of Kaepernick sitting while other players stood for the national anthem before Sunday night’s preseason game against the Packers, the quarterback told NFL.com that he would not honor America.

“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” he reportedly said.

Believe it or not, The Boogie Man has a highly refined sense of humor too.

Kings center DeMarcus Cousins, who is competing for USA Basketball at the Rio Games this summer, was asked a strange question by an Olympic reporter on Thursday and delivered the perfect retort in response, per Andrew Keh of the New York Times.

OLYMPIC REPORTER: "If you could ask yourself one question what would it be?"

BOOGIE: "I would ask myself, what would that one question be?"

Who would’ve thought that the All-Star big man could be so meta? Of course, Cousins has a rich history of priceless encounters with the international media, so this is really nothing all that new. Credit to him for putting forth a witty, philosophical answer to a bizarre question when in his mind he was probably thinking to himself, “Lord give me the strength.”
