Rutgers basketball used the financial success of UConn players to brag about its own coaching staff

http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Rutgers_20image.0.jpg?fit=640%2C426

College sports programs will do just about anything to help recruiting. They will send recruits hundreds of letters. They will make them customized Photoshops. They will tout just about anything if they think it will help them in recruiting. Even if that means touting the success of other programs.

Rutgers hired Steve Pikiell as it’s new men’s basketball coach this season. He came to Rutgers from Stony Brook and isn’t exactly a household name, compared to many of the best-known coaches in college basketball. His name might not catch much attention, but you know what does? $ 1.1 billion in career earnings.

That’s a great graphic that could actually help in recruiting if potential players are in search of coaches that send players to the NBA. Then you look closer and realize there are no former Rutgers players in the photo. Instead, it’s predominantly former Connecticut players.

That graphic is, however, true. Pikiell spent some time at Connecticut and coached some great players, like Ray Allen. His assistants have also coached a number of players who went on to the NBA. There is no denying the Rutgers coaches have coached some fine players, that just seems like an odd way of touting it.

The heavy Connecticut Husky presence in the image wasn’t lost on UConn.

Rutgers tried to use their coaches’ success coaching athletes at other schools as a recruiting advantage. The school where most of those athletes were actually coached then replied in a way that probably gives it a recruiting advantage.

College sports are the best.

Indians pitcher kicks line drive in the air and catches it for an out

http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/McAllister_201.0.jpg?fit=640%2C426

Indians pitcher Zach McAllister has carved out a nice MLB career for himself, but if he ever needs a change, he might just have a career in soccer. Or at least professional hacky sack.

Not only did McAllister manage to get a foot on the line drive to stop the ball from getting back up the middle, but he popped it up, gathered himself and managed to make the catch for the out.

At this moment, it seems like there is no chance McAllister makes any play on this ball, yet alone catches it. That was before we knew McAllister could do this.

Kick-save and a beauty.

‘Have Some F***ing Respect’: Ex-Teammate Wearing American Sniper T-Shirt Slams Colin Kaepernick

http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/GettyImages-160294314-620x412.jpg?fit=620%2C412
San Fransisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been the subject of intense scrutiny since he refused to stand for the national anthem at a preseason game last week, and now one of his former teammates is joining in the criticism.

Alex Boone, who played guard with Kaepernick from 2011 to 2015, told ESPN that he wasn’t “surprised” by the move but was surely “upset and disappointed” by it.

“I mean, like I had said earlier, that flag gives you the right to do whatever you want and I understand that — Anquan said that, and I agree with that,” Boone, who now plays for the Minnesota Vikings, remarked. “But at the same time, you have to show some respect, especially in this position that we’re in, where we’re playing a game for a living — it’s almost disrespectful.”

“You see all these pictures of these veterans that have no legs and they’re standing up in their wheelchair,” he continued.

Further commenting on the issue to USA Today, Boone, who was reportedly wearing an “American Sniper” T-shirt at the time, explained that Kaepernick’s controversial decision is particularly difficult for him because his brother, a Marine, “lost a lot of friends” in combat.

While Boone said he understands his ex-teammate’s decision and his freedom to do so, he doesn’t necessarily believe it was right.

“You should have some [expletive] respect for people who served, especially people that lost their life to protect our freedom,” Boone said. “We’re out here playing a game, making millions of dollars. People are losing their life, and you don’t have the common courtesy to do that. That just drove me nuts.”

He went on to say that, if he and Kaepernick were teammates right now, the two likely “would have had a problem.”

The 49ers player doubled down on his decision over the weekend, saying he will continue to sit during the “Star-Spangled Banner” because he refuses to “show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.”

“To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way,” Kaepernick argued. “There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”

Bear Grylls Used Leaves And Impressive Improvisation Techniques To Make Shaquille O’Neal Disappear

http://www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/shaq-jpg-2.jpe

Running Wild with Bear Grylls,’ for those of you out of the surviving on your own urine loop, is a show where famous survivalist and probably crazy person Bear Grylls takes other famous and probably less crazy celebrities into the wilderness and teaches them important skills they’ll need should they ever find themselves irrevocably lost in said wilderness. Shaquille O’Neal is one of the latest stars to get in on the action, and we can’t lie – it’s pretty fantastic.

Grylls takes the basketball legend deep into the woods — presumably where all of the VHS copies of Kazaam are buried – where he then gets an idea:

You know what we could do? I reckon if we collect all these leaves into a big pile like this, and then we get right inside it with our heads poking out.

Shaq, being as relatively normal a human being as possible, responds with this face:

Same, bud.

Eventually, Shaq gives in, camouflaging himself with wet leaves. Despite his initial reticence, he ends up getting way into it, saying he feels “like a big Christmas tree.” Oh honey, those don’t have leaves. Looks like you’ve got a way to go before you can call yourself a real woodsman.

Cespedes Walks Up To "Lion King" Song, Mashes Tater To Fan Dressed As Simba

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/IIVc9Qi.gif?fit=640%2C360

Nants ingonyama bagithi baba!

New York Mets slugger Yoenis Cespesdes is once again doing his best to carry the team into the postseason. He sent Mets fans home happy on Monday night, cracking a walk-off home run in the tenth inning to lead his team to a 2-1 win over the Miami Marlins. More than that, he lived the story of the walk-up song he used for the fateful at-bat: "The Circle of Life" from the Disney film The Lion King.

Check out the GIF here, where you can clearly see, in the crowd of fans clutching for the home run ball, a certain dude dressed in a yellow lion outfit.

That"s right: fan wears Simba costume, Cespedes uses Lion King music and hits game-winning dinger directly at Simba.

Cespedes finished the night three-for-five, including the game-ending bomb. Mets fans will hope he keeps up his hot hitting through despair and hope...

Through faith and love...

"Til they find their place...

On the path unwinding...

In the circle...

The circle of October.

Yasiel Puig reportedly claimed on waivers

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Yasiel-Puig-diving-catch.jpg?fit=555%2C269

Yasiel-Puig-diving-catch

Yasiel Puig’s official exit from Los Angeles may finally be imminent.

According to a report by Jon Heyman of Today’s Knuckleball on Tuesday, Puig has been claimed on waivers. Though the identity of the claimant is still unknown, the Dodgers can attempt to work out a deal with that team.

Puig was demoted to the minor leagues at the beginning of the month. Since then, the Chicago White Sox and the Atlanta Braves have been mentioned amongst several potential trade partners.

But the Dodgers don’t just want to give Puig away and have reportedly turned down a number of offers for him. The 25-year-old’s contract runs through 2018 and still has $ 14 million left on it.

The corrosive Cuban outfielder’s value is in the sewer at the moment. As such, it would make sense for the Dodgers to wait until the winter (at which point they would be free to negotiate with any team) and allow Puig to continue reestablishing himself in Triple-A, where he has posted a .369 batting average and a 1.045 OPS since his demotion.

Still, the team could just want to close the book on the Puig era already, so we’ll see how the process plays out.

Teddy Bridgewater out for season with torn ACL

http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/teddy-bridgewater-2.jpg?fit=512%2C349

Teddy Bridgewater

On Tuesday, Teddy Bridgewater suffered a knee injury in practice that was gruesome enough to reportedly have a few players throwing up on the field. It was initially feared to be a significant injury and we now know that to be true.

Later in the day, the Vikings released a statement saying their quarterback has completely torn his ACL and suffered other structural damage.

Teddy Bridgewater suffered a non-contact injury today at practice. The injury was quickly identified as a dislocated knee. The injury was stabilized, and he was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and evaluation. After undergoing an MRI, it was determined that Teddy suffered a complete tear to his ACL and other structural damage. Fortunately, there appears to be no nerve or arterial damage. Surgical repair will be scheduled within the next few days. Although the recovery time will be significant, we expect Teddy to make a full recovery. I would like to thank all of the medical professionals and our athletic training staff for all of their help today. Teddy has already displayed the attitude needed to overcome this injury and attack his rehab.

The injury occurred as Bridgewater planted his leg during a passing drill and immediately went down to the ground. Thankfully, the team expects him to make a full recovery.

The 23-year-old was set to enter his third year in the NFL with hopes of improving on a 2015 season that saw him pass for 3,231 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also cut his interceptions from 12 during his rookie season to 9 a year ago while playing three more games.

It goes without saying the news is a big blow for Minnesota, who will likely turn to 36-year-old Shaun Hill as a replacement unless they look outside of the organization. Hill played in just three games last season. Prior to that, he started eight games for the Rams in 2014.

Veterans for Kaepernick hashtag blows up as QB receives support

http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/veterans-for-kaepernick.jpg?fit=600%2C595

Veterans for Kaepernick

Colin Kaepernick is being slammed from all angles for protesting the national anthem by refusing to stand when it is played prior to his NFL games. The San Francisco 49ers QB is taking a stand on this matter because he wants to bring attention and change to what he feels is unjust conduct by some police officers towards black people.

Many have called Kaepernick “disrespectful” for his actions and have criticized his decision to protest the anthem. They say he is being particularly disrespectful to the military and other people who protect the country and the flag.

But one funny thing happened on Tuesday: Kaepernick began to receive support from the very people the masses said he was disrespecting. And the support came in the form of a movement on social media “#VeteransforKaepernick.”

As best as we can tell, the hashtag movement began with a Facebook post on Monday:

That post was shared on Twitter and led to a hashtag picking up steam Tuesday evening:

By late Tuesday, there were thousands of tweets sent using the #VeteransforKaepernick hashtag. Tons of people who claim to be vets said on Twitter that they fought to protect Kaepernick’s right to protest. Here’s a look at many of those tweets:

This stated things well:

Liverpool striker Ballotelli to have medical at Nice: report

http://www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/10d92df7a7657ae909c24c3c53baf6a223b37abf.jpg

Nice (France) (AFP) – Liverpool’s outcast Italian striker Mario Balotelli was to have a medical at French side Nice on Wednesday amid transfer deadline day talks between the clubs, l’Equipe newspaper reported.

The 26-year-old could be sold or loaned to Nice, the report said. Once one of the biggest hopes in Europe, Balotelli has not played for Italy since the 2014 World Cup and has been told he is not wanted by Liverpool coach Juergen Klopp.

A Nice official told l’Equipe no agreement had been reached and that the medical was “to save time” if an accord could be found.

“If the situation works out, maybe late in the day, it will be done. If we don’t agree with Liverpool, he will leave again,” the official added.

Nice want a permanent transfer but a loan was also possible, the club official was quoted as saying. Balotelli spent last season on loan at AC Milan but the Italian side chose not to extend the deal.
