Yankee Stadium, the older Yankee Stadium at least, used to be a terrible place for fans of the opposing teams — especially boisterous supporters — to go and watch a game.
The times, however, they’ve changed and so has the stadium, apparently ushering in a new, gentler class of Yankees fans.
That was on full display Monday night when the Yankees welcomed the Los Angeles Dodgers to town to open a three-game series in the Bronx. The Yankees also welcomed thousands of folks in Dodger blue to the ballpark.
Dodgers fans came out in droves for the opener, with a big pocket of supporters even holding a Dodgers flag in the left-field seats.
Things got even worse for Yankees fans when the opposing fans broke into a roll call of their own, borrowing the tradition from Yankees fans who call out the names of every New York player on the field in the first inning.

The Dodgers gave their diehards plenty to cheer about, too. L.A. rolled to to an 8-2 win

Kansas fans storm field after blowout victory over Rhode Island
http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/kansas-fans-field-storm.jpg?fit=600%2C344
The debate over just what kind of victory merits a court/field storming is an ages-old question. Kansas football fans certainly thought they were justified after a blowout win over lowly Rhode Island on Saturday night.
The Jayhawks defeated the Rams by the final of 55-6 at Memorial Stadium, and their fans decided to celebrate by storming the field, per Jesse Newell of the Kansas City Star.

The argument for storming: it was Kansas Football’s first victory since November 2014, breaking a 15-game losing streak that included an 0-12 season in 2015. The Jayhawks aren’t particularly known for their football program either, having not made it to a bowl game since 2008 and compiling an all-time losing record (580–610–58) since the program’s inception in 1890. As such, victories like this probably don’t come around all that often for the KU faithful.
The argument against storming: Rhode Island Football is probably even weaker, having won a grand total of five (!!!) games since 2011, despite playing in the weak Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). Furthermore, a 49-point margin of victory makes storming seem a little excessive, and the Kansas fans were even told over the PA to knock it off “for the respect of this program.”

Well, at least Kansas finally got to experience what it was like to dine on the other end of the table.

Chelsea Fans Set To Lose Their Sh*t As Club Zero In On Bolton Reject
http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Chelsea-web-320x213.jpg?fit=320%2C213
Chelsea are finally closing in on signing a defender, after a summer of disappointment in the transfer window.
Antonio Conte only has five defenders to choose from at the minute, and has been priced out of moves for Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly and AC Milan’s Alessio Romagnoli.
But they’ve stuck with their Serie A search, and are close to announcing the signing of Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina, according to the Daily Mail.
The former Sunderland defender will cost them though, with a £23 million fee enough to bring the Spaniard to the Premier League again.
He was part of one of the Italian league’s most feared defences last season, and chipped in with four goals as Fiorentina finished fifth.
The Viola were holding out for a £25 million fee, but the Blues have settled on a transfer that includes add-ons.
Presumably, one of those will be ‘he sticks around for a second season’ after Chelsea’s habit of getting rid of left backs after one season continued this summer, with Baba Rahman heading back to Germany after 12 months.
Alonso’s arrival will allow Cesar Azpilicueta to move to right back, and Branislav Ivanovic to move into the central position.
Kurt Zouma is also closing in on a return to fitness after a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament injury, so Conte may be able to manage without another centre back coming in.
Chelsea’s lack of European football may also help them, with one game a week even manageable for the ancient knees of John Terry.

49ers Fan’s Fiery Response to Colin Kaepernick Refusing to Stand for National Anthem Goes Viral

A self-described “lifelong” San Francisco 49ers fan had a fiery response to quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s refusal to stand for the national anthem in protest of America’s “oppression” of black people.
“He says he’s oppressed, making $ 126 million,” the man says in the video. “Well, Colin, here’s my salute to you. Here’s my salute to you sitting on the bench for the rest of the year; sitting while you pee for the rest of your life; my salute to you.”
The 49ers fan then set his Kaepernick jersey on fire while playing the national anthem. He made sure to take off his hat and put his hand over his heart for the duration of the patriotic tune.
The flames seemed to be in sync with the national anthem as the jersey was practically reduced to ashes and fell to the ground as the song came to an end.
Watch the man’s “salute” to Kaepernick below:
After a photo went viral of Kaepernick sitting while other players stood for the national anthem before Sunday night’s preseason game against the Packers, the quarterback told NFL.com that he would not honor America.
“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” he reportedly said.

Freddy Galvis upset at ballpark safety: ‘Put up a net and protect all the fans’
http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/freddy-galvis.jpg?fit=600%2C404
Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Freddy Galvis could only watch as a foul ball off the end of his bat struck a little girl in the face during Saturday’s 4-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. After the game, Galvis, himself the father of a young girl, used the incident as an opportunity to call for reform to ballpark safety measures.
“What year is this? 2016? It’s 2016 and fans keep getting hit by foul balls when you’re supposed to have a net to protect the fans,” Galvis said, per Matt Breen of the Philadelphia Inquirer. “The fans give you the money, so you should protect them, right? We’re worried about speeding up the game. Why don’t you put up a net and protect all the fans?”
The Phillies said that the girl, who was sitting behind the visitor’s dugout on the third-base line, was taken to a children’s hospital for further evaluations, giving no other update on her condition.
“What if I broke all her teeth. What if I broke her nose. If I hit her in one eye and she loses that. What are they going to do? They’re going to forget in three days,” Galvis continued. “It’s going to be a big deal for two, three days. Everybody in TV, media, whatever. But after three days what’s going to happen? They’re going to forget. But that family won’t forget that. Do you think the little baby will forget that? It’s true life. It’s something you have to put before everything. Safety first. Safety.”
Breen notes that the league recommended before the season that teams extend their protective netting to anywhere within 70 feet of home plate. For their part, the Phillies added about 10 feet to the netting they already had in place behind home plate.
While it’s impossible to plan for every freak occurrence, Galvis is absolutely right in stressing that safety always comes first, so hopefully further preventative measures are enacted in ballparks to best ensure the collective well-being of their fans.
