One of the Texas Rangers’ coaches is being forced to take a leave … but it’s actually for a good reason.

Rangers manager Jeff Banister is insisting his bench coach Steve Buechele leave the team on Sunday to go watch his son, Shane, make his college debut as a true freshman quarterback for Texas.

“If he’s still here, I might walk out and tell the umpires to throw him out,” Banister said of Buechele, according to the Dallas Morning News’ Gerry Fraley.

Longhorns head coach Charlie Strong has not publicly named a starting quarterback, but all signs — including Banister’s decree — point to Shane Buechele starting Sunday night against Notre Dame.

Shane Buechele threw for 73 touchdowns and rushed for 21 scores during his high school career at Lamar High in Arlington. He played brilliantly in the spring game in April, which put him on track to claim the starting job for the Longhorns.

Rangers fan goes with boob grab after walk-off win (Video)

Rougned Odor blasted a two-run, walk-off home run in the ninth inning Tuesday night to give the Texas Rangers a dramatic win over the Seattle Mariners, and one fan decided to celebrate with a vintage boob grab.

This is the type of stuff you can only get away with after a walk-off win.

The team was pretty excited, too:

Remember, this is the type of behavior that once got a basketball coach fired. If the Rangers weren’t in first place, that probably wouldn’t fly.

The Texas Rangers’ mission to bolster their starting rotation continues to be quite far-reaching.

According to a report by Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports on Saturday, the Rangers have had discussions with the Chicago White Sox about All-Star lefty Jose Quintana in addition to their previously reported interest in Chris Sale. Talks did not progress very far, however, thanks to differences in perceived trade value.

The 27-year-old Quintana is 8-8 this year with a 2.89 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP, and 125 strikeouts in 21 starts. A dependable arm with excellent control, Quintana has also been pursued by the Boston Red Sox in recent days. He is under contract through at least the 2018 season.

The Rangers could use a third quality left-hander to go along with Cole Hamels and Martin Perez. They seem willing to explore all avenues possible in order to upgrade their pitching staff, so it would be a surprise to see them let the trade deadline go by without swinging at least one deal for rotation depth.
