Description:
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is taking a seat for the first four games of the 2016 season for his alleged involvement in DeflateGate nearly two years ago. There are major debates as to whether or not the punishment was fair, and if he was even guilty in the first place.
We can debate all we want, but the only thing we know is Brady won’t be playing for four games. He’s not even allowed to practice or contact the team during games. Thankfully, this poor man is worth hundreds of millions and has a Super model wife.
Brady has plenty of options when it comes to staying busy during the suspension. Perhaps he could just relax, or maybe he"ll enjoy some activities. Here are 10 things Tom Brady can do during the first four weeks of the NFL regular season.

Another NFL season has begun. And just like every other year, we expect 2016 to bring plenty of surprises, not only within the season itself, but within the fantasy football world as well.
In 2015, I doubt anyone saw Devonta Freeman coming from nowhere to lead all fantasy running backs in points. And no one predicted Cam Newton would lead all players in fantasy points after losing his top wideout Kelvin Benjamin for the season. But as we all know, the fantasy world is full of surprises.
What surprises does the 2016 Fantasy season hold?
Here are 10 incredibly bold predictions for the 2016 fantasy football season—in order of least bold to boldest.

Undercover Boss
http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/5W4A3344.jpg?fit=640%2C427
Mike Packer is on his phone. The voice on the other end belongs to a KICKS writer and it happens to be 3 p.m. West Coast time on a breezy Oakland Sunday in June, but it could be anyone, anytime, anywhere and the same would be true of the fast-talking, fast-typing resident of New Jersey. He’s always texting, emailing or talking on his jack—and for good reason.
If you haven’t heard of Packer, that’s by design. The Generation X-er prefers to work in the shadows. That doesn’t mean, though, that your favorite player or rapper or sneaker brand staffer doesn’t know who the sneaker industry behemoth is. After all, who do you think he’s chopping with? Look at his contacts or stop by his eponymous Jersey-based boutiques, Packer Shoes, and the answer immediately becomes obvious.
In the past two years alone, Packer has built with stars like Allen Iverson, DJ Clark Kent, Fabolous, Jadakiss, Shawn Kemp and Shaquille O’Neal.
“Whether it’s NBA players, NFL players, you have a web of people that gets built up over time,” Packer says. He’s worked on collaborations with many of the above but counts even more big-timers as frequent shoppers. “And if you’re treating these people like normal people, it’s something that just comes back to you. We’re able to not just have them as customers but as friends.”
If it’s not a well-known entertainer texting, it’s likely a known VP. He won’t drop names just to turn heads, but, well, we will. Packer has nurtured and developed meaningful relationships with everyone from Jon Epstein, who as President of FILA, resurrected the brand, to Todd Krinsky of Reebok fame, to Jon Wexler, the man credited with bringing Yeezy to adidas.
“He knows his customers,” Epstein told another #SLAMFam writer in a Tablet magazine piece. “He really understands the brands, their histories and what made or makes them great.”
Packer is a lot more than just a boutique owner, and along those lines, Packer Shoes is more than just retail spots, an e-commerce business and social media accounts.
The stores, if not the e-com site and @packershoes on IG, trace their history to 1907, when Packer’s grandfather and great uncle opened Packer Bros. in Yonkers, NY. And while the locations, brands and stores look different, the OG ethos and rare legacy seep through to the business, which Packer relocated, refreshed and refurbished in 2003.
“That part of Yonkers, it wasn’t the nicest, but it was still the best education I could have gotten,” he says of his years grinding under his father’s watch at the store. “I got to go to business school every day, and the key was that I got to deal with people—real people—on a daily basis.”
Very few, if any, industry insiders have Packer’s history. None can couple that with his years as a lawyer and assistant district attorney. It is just that books-and-BK combo that allowed the family man to transcend the role of store owner.
Even if you subtract the day-to-day management of Packer Shoes, Packer’s sneaker résumé is unmatched. He’s helped concept and organize successful collabs with ASICS, FILA, Mitchell & Ness, New Balance, Reebok, Saucony and Starter.
Packer also quietly partook in the reintroduction of Ewing Athletics in 2012, offering advice to Patrick Ewing and president David Goldberg. There are more LLCs and silent partnerships on his docket, but Packer doesn’t openly talk about them. Nor, as we found out after some OD research, does he talk about the fact that some pro athletes have asked him—in vain—to manage their careers.
“I definitely see what he’s creating in the sneaker and sports world,” says one NBA agent. “It’s not every day you meet someone with the knowledge of our business that Packer has, with all the sneaker connects.”
No wonder the orthodox Jew—who manages to pull all this off while not working from sundown Friday night until sundown-plus on Saturday—has been named one of the most influential people in the industry by the likes of Complex and Hypebeast.
How? An ear to the streets, an eye for detail and the acumen to successfully pitch a billion-dollar sneaker brand on the importance of a 100-piece collaborative pack. And…
“You need to have a good team, and thankfully, I do,” he says. “The one thing I can say is if you are going from online to physical, it’s important to have everybody on the same page.”
And, just like that, Mike Packer is back on the phone.

This Is Why Klopp Changed The Goal Nets At Liverpool
http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/reda-320x213.jpg?fit=320%2C213
If you’re reading this then chances are you know everything that happened at Anfield over the weekend.
4-1 was the score as the final whistle was blown; The Reds had fundamentally destroyed the title holders in front of their largest home crowd since 1977 – but was there more to it than just liquid football?
It’s hard to argue that Liverpool looked almost impeccable against Leicester but Mr Klopp had made one minor, bizarre change just before the first whistle – and it could’ve made all the difference, reports Liverpool FC.
For the past four years, the nets of the Anfield goals have been lined with red netting – but Jurgen made sure they were changed to a classic white ahead of the clash with Leicester.
Why? Because on Thursday night’s training session, Klopp and the training staff at Liverpool noticed that the red netting blended in way too much with the sea of red shirts at the Kop end.
On a typical game night at Anfield both ends of the stadium are brimming with home team shirts, and if you’re trying to take a decent shot, apparently the red netting is indistinguishable from the crowd making it significantly harder to see the goal.
And whether you agree with Klopp’s reasoning or not it’s hard to argue against him considering the team in red bagged four goals against Ranieri’s reigning men.
As Alan Partridge would’ve said numerous times if he was watching the game: ‘Shittttt………..did you see that? He must have a foot like a traction engine!’

It is a short week for the Jets with a game in Buffalo on Thursday night. On Tuesday Jordan Jenkins didn’t practice. Same goes for Bryce Petty. Darryl Roberts was limited, Muhammad (Wilkerson) was limited, (David) Harris and Bruce Carter were limited.
Head coach Todd Bowles said that since Jenkins didn’t practice on Tuesday he doesn’t expect him to play on Thursday night. He does expect him to return for week three. Bowles said that Muhammad Wilkerson, “had a nail that just was removed from the game and it was a little sore, so he’s been limited a little bit.”

CJ Spiller released by Saints
http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/cj-spiller.jpg?fit=600%2C407
After a forgettable 18 months, CJ Spiller’s time in New Orleans is now over.
According to a report by Rand Getlin of NFL Media on Tuesday, Spiller has been released by the Saints.
I"m told the #Saints have released RB CJ Spiller. He"s fully healthy now. Wont be long before someone picks him up.
— Rand Getlin (@Rand_Getlin) September 13, 2016
The Saints signed the ex-Pro Bowl running back to a four-year, $ 16 million deal in March 2015 but only managed to get 351 total yards and two touchdowns (both receiving) in 13 appearances out of him. Spiller was a healthy scratch in the team’s Week 1 loss to the Oakland Raiders and never really managed to carve out a meaningful role in Sean Payton’s offense.
In the right situation, Spiller, 29, can still function as a serviceable change-of-pace back, especially on passing downs. But losing foot speed and starting to look nothing like the guy who used to top 200 carries a season for the Buffalo Bills, Spiller won’t attract the same interest he did before, though he’ll probably still catch on somewhere.

Rex Ryan removed lap band to support brother Rob
http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/rex-rob-ryan-bills.jpg?fit=600%2C443
Rex Ryan is proving that blood is thicker than, well, his gut.
The Buffalo Bills head coach got surgery to reverse the lap band procedure he had done in 2010 as a show of support of his brother Rob.
Rob had a bad experience with his lap band and had it removed. Rex meanwhile got his removed to show his brother he is on his side.
“I told him, we’ll figure this out together (without the Lap Band),” Rex told the New York Post. “Plus, I won more games without it than did with it in.”
Since removing his lap band, Rex has gained about 30 pounds. He weighed nearly 360 pounds prior to having the procedure done in Jan. 2010. As of 2014, he had lost about 130 pounds.

Wenger hails ‘world-class’ Ospina after PSG draw
http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/de62e69a9da5aaf63d9cbf9ee4baaab3c54ad681.jpg?fit=640%2C427
Paris (AFP) – Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger described David Ospina as “world-class” after the Colombian goalkeeper justified his selection in Tuesday’s Champions League draw with Paris Saint-Germain with several decisive saves.
Ospina was beaten by Edinson Cavani’s header inside the opening minute at the Parc des Princes but foiled the French champions on several other occasions as Alexis Sanchez’s late leveller ensured a 1-1 draw in the Group A opener.
And Ospina’s performance silenced the doubters who questioned why Wenger had chosen to play him in Paris rather than regular number one Petr Cech, who was left on the bench.
“I have two world-class goalkeepers and I know we have enough matches to give both of them games. If you cannot play them you cannot keep world-class goalkeepers who don’t get games,” insisted Wenger.
Arsenal’s wobble in the Champions League at the start of last season, with surprise defeats to both Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiakos that almost condemned them to an early exit, was partly attributed to Wenger’s decision to play Ospina in goal.
The former Nice custodian made one calamitous error in particular that gifted a goal to the Greeks, but against PSG he rescued the London club with numerous interventions to deny Cavani and Angel Di Maria.
“Ospina was very good and he will have shown tonight for those who doubted him that he is a good goalkeeper,” added Wenger.
“When he played in the Champions League last season he made an error and everyone came down on him, but he has put things right.”
The question now is, will Ospina keep his place for Arsenal’s next Group A game at home to Swiss side Basel in two weeks, and Wenger hinted that he will.
“We have rules that the ‘keepers know. That’s why it is important to have clear rules from the start, and when that changes I inform them,” said the Frenchman.
“We can always change our minds. It’s down to performances and on what he has delivered tonight he has the right to claim to play in the next Champions League game.”
– Profligate Cavani –
It was far from a vintage Arsenal performance but the draw in what was on paper their trickiest fixture leaves them well placed to win their group, something they have not done in the Champions League in five years.
“PSG were good. They were determined, aggressive, quick on the break, and applied very strong physical pressure,” added Wenger.
“But even in the first half when we put together a few passes we felt we could be dangerous. We created chances in the second half and it is a good point for us.”
From a PSG perspective, their inability to see out the victory was less to do with Ospina than with Cavani’s inability to convert several chances to add to his opener.
The Uruguayan had two spectacular misses in the first half before being denied by the Arsenal ‘keeper in the second half, and Unai Emery’s side have now gone three games without a win.
“I am not happy with the result but I am happy with how we played. We need to play like this in future,” insisted the Spaniard Emery, who refused to be critical of Cavani.
“The most important thing is that he is creating chances for himself. That is positive for the future.”
Quarter-finalists in each of the last four seasons, PSG are next in Champions League action away to Ludogorets Razgrad in Bulgaria in a fortnight.

Platini tells UEFA ‘my conscience is clear’

Athens (AFP) – Disgraced football leader Michel Platini said in a farewell speech to UEFA on Wednesday that he felt no guilt over a $ 2 million payment from FIFA that has seen him suspended for four years.
“Just simply know that my conscience is clear, that I am certain that I committed not the slightest fault and that I am continuing to fight legally,” the 62-year-old French football legend told a congress in Athens as it met to elect his successor.
Platini and former FIFA leader Sepp Blatter are both under criminal investigation by Swiss prosecutors over the payment that Blatter authorised in 2011 for work carried out a decade earlier without a contract.

As the men’s national team’s leading Olympic scorer, Carmelo Anthony has reached a legendary status in international basketball. He has three Golds, more than any other man to wear the red, white and blue. But not the most for an American.
Teresa Edwards has four Olympic Golds.
Edwards, a 5-11 point guard from Cairo, GA, played before the WNBA was even an idea. There’s not much footage of Edwards out there, but luckily, Katie Smith was around to see Edwards play.
“I even missed some of her prime but understood she could score, could guard, could pass like no other,” Smith, who played with Edwards on the 2000 Olympic team, says. “Drop 40, no problem.”
Smith says Edwards had all the tools of a textbook point guard.
“Her size, her scoring ability, her ability to play defense and on the other hand, just run your team, understand how to find people,” Smith rattles off the list of what made Edwards great. “Just that savvy, [she] just knew how to do it. She could literally do it all.”
Throughout her career, she did a lot of winning. She went from being the youngest player on the 1984 national team, to the oldest on the 2000 squad. Both won Gold.
Edwards’ international career lasted for five Olympics. In 1992, she and Team USA finished with the Bronze medal. But from her very first time in the Team USA pipeline, in 1981, to her swan song with Smith and the 2000 group, she suited up in 216 games with ‘USA’ across her chest. For comparison, Carmelo has only appeared in 72 games for America.
“When you play in the Olympics the first time, you don’t think that you’re a part of history,” Edwards says a day after the Women’s Team captures another Gold in Rio. “You don’t know that there’s a legacy or anything. You’re just playing the game because you love it.
“As I watched the women win the Gold medal yesterday, I’m like, Wow, I’m a part of something that’s really big. Something that should go on forever,” Edwards says. “Something that we as Americans women’s basketball players have truly built a dynasty.”
Dynasty is the best word to describe the women’s national team. Since 1984, they’ve won eight Gold medals, six straight since 1996. They’ve absolutely dominated their competition, establishing themselves as the best basketball team in the world. A dynasty in every sense of the word. Every dynasty needs to start somewhere. This one started with Edwards.
“She was huge,” Diana Taurasi says. “She’s the one that everyone looked up to. She was by far one of the best players to ever touch a basketball.”
Edwards wasn’t ever trying to build something that would last for more than 30 years, though. She wasn’t looking to inspire an entire generation of young women. She was just tryna hoop.
“When I was young, I knew I wanted to be great at the game,” Edwards says. “You don’t know the impact you’re going to have on others. For me, I’m always totally flabbergasted. I’m totally humbled by something like that.”
Something like Taurasi or Smith, two of the best ever, looking up to her, both on and off the court. The vision, poise and leadership that Smith played with, and now coaches with, can be traced back to Edwards. The trademark aggression that Taurasi plays with can be traced back to Edwards.
After 216 games, four Golds, a Hall of Fame induction and uplifting too many young basketball players to count, the real Captain America knows the program is built to last.
“We love this game tremendously, it’s such a part of America’s fabric,” Edwards says. “The experience is immeasurable because it continues on.”
And if Teresa Edwards won’t take the credit for molding the best basketball program in the world, Katie Smith and Diana Taurasi will give it to her.
“She was nasty,” Smith says, completely complimentarily. “She was gonna do her part. She holds herself to a higher standard. She’ll do whatever it takes just to get that win.”
“She played with this aggression that I loved,” Taurasi says. “No matter what was happening, she was just gonna go hard. That was what was so amazing about her.”

Kerry Wood rips Joe West over Joe Maddon ejection
http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Joe-Maddon-Joe-West.jpg?fit=600%2C345
The crankiest umpire in Major League Baseball was at it again Monday night, this time ejecting Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon in the ninth inning over a situation that surely could have been avoided.
After Jeremy Hazelbaker of the St. Louis Cardinals broke up Cubs pitcher Kyle Kendricks’ no-hit bid to leadoff the ninth, some Chicago players tried to have a mound visit to buy closer Aroldis Chapman more time to warm up. We see that all the time in baseball, and you would think West would be even more understanding of it after a guy loses a no-hitter with three outs to go.
Instead, West stopped Cubs catcher Miguel Montero in his tracks and told him not to join his teammates on the mound. That infuriated Maddon, who came storming out of the dugout to launch four-letter words at the man they call “Cowboy Joe.”
Your browser does not support iframes.
You can’t blame Maddon for being angry. West has a reputation for going on power trips, and not allowing a reliever more time to get loose is another example of one. Shortly after the incident took place, former Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood retweeted a bunch of tweets mocking West. He then added some commentary of his own:
I just don"t want him in the post season. Enough of the #JoeShow https://t.co/qPhEQ9u7nf
— Kerry Wood (@KerryWood) September 13, 2016
Ok I"m done. We all know he sucks. Good night.
— Kerry Wood (@KerryWood) September 13, 2016
Again, West is known for this stuff. He tosses players and managers out all the time (here’s another example), and oftentimes he is clearly looking for trouble. While you can understand him wanting to keep the game moving in that situation, there was no need to stop Montero like that and make a big spectacle out of it.

With defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson eligible to play this Thursday after serving his one-game suspension, the Jets have made room by dropping one of their four tight ends.
We have waived TE Braedon Bowman.

Arie Kouandjio becomes United States citizen
http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/arie-kouandjio-naturalization-ceremony.jpg?fit=600%2C445
Tuesday will surely be a day Arie Kouandjio will never forget.
Kouandjio came to the United States from Cameroon when he was six years old. Now, he is American citizen. The 24-year-old Redskins offensive lineman was at the Department of Labor headquarters in Washington D.C. on Tuesday to take part in a naturalization ceremony. Here are a couple of videos from the event.

Now that he is a citizen, Kouandjio doesn’t have to sit back and observe the political system, he can take part.
“Before, all I could do is just watch CNN or just watch Fox or just watch; I wasn’t a participating member in all decisions,” Kouandjio said, via The Washington Post. “I still can’t be the president, which is something that I’ve always wanted to do, but I can do other things, so it’s awesome.”
Kouandjio was selected in the fourth round of last year’s NFL Draft after being on two BCS National Championship teams at Alabama and earning Second Team All-American honors as a senior. He has a younger brother Cyrus, who plays for the Bills, also as an offensive lineman.

ESPN’s Trent Dilfer Tells Back-Up QB Kaepernick It’s His Job to ‘Be Quiet,’ Sparking This Fiery Response
http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/kaepernick-1.jpg?fit=512%2C345
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick on Monday responded to criticism from one ESPN analyst who said Sunday that it’s the job of a backup quarterback to “be quiet.”
“This is a backup quarterback whose job it is to be quiet and sit in the shadows,” EPSN’s Trent Dilfer said. “Yet he [Kaepernick] chose a time when all of a sudden he became the center of attention. And it has disrupted that organization.” Dilfer was commenting on Kaepernick’s repeated refusal to stand during the playing of the national anthem.
Following the 49ers win over the Los Angeles Rams on Monday, Kaepernick fired back at the commentator.
“I think that’s one of the most ridiculous comments I’ve heard. The fact that you say, ‘You’re a backup quarterback. Stay in your place,’ that’s an issue,” Kaepernick said.
“I would ask him to really have a conversation with the families of people that have been murdered and see if he still feels that way,” Kaepernick added. “Because I bet you he doesn’t, just because he hasn’t experienced that type of oppression.”

Giovani dos Santos wins MLS Player of the Week for Week 27
http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/usa-today-9519254.0.jpg?fit=640%2C426
While the spotlight was on his new-slash-old LA Galaxy teammate, Gio dos Santos had himself a fantastic game this weekend.
The LA Galaxy is on everybody"s minds right now. Most of that has to do with Landon Donovan"s surprise return last week after retiring in 2014, but a fair amount is also due to the exploits of Giovani dos Santos.
The Mexican international had probably the most consistent week around, as he scored four goals in two games, and earned the accolades of the voting panel in winning SB Nation"s MLS Player of the Week award.
Considerable questions remain for the Galaxy at this point in the season, as they are generally good on defense and sometimes good on offense but have had a ton of injuries and some international absences taking away their best players at times, and are therefore wildly inconsistent. Despite that, they are still second in the Supporters" Shield standings and if Dos Santos is playing well, one figures they"ll get results more often than not as we head into the playoffs.
Full results for Week 27, with first-place votes getting three points, second-place votes receiving two points and third-place votes earning a point each:
Player | Points |
Giovani dos Santos | 27 |

Dodgers Fans Invade Yankee Stadium, Do Their Own Roll Call Ahead Of Win
http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/dodgers-fans.jpg?fit=640%2C360
Yankee Stadium, the older Yankee Stadium at least, used to be a terrible place for fans of the opposing teams — especially boisterous supporters — to go and watch a game.
The times, however, they’ve changed and so has the stadium, apparently ushering in a new, gentler class of Yankees fans.
That was on full display Monday night when the Yankees welcomed the Los Angeles Dodgers to town to open a three-game series in the Bronx. The Yankees also welcomed thousands of folks in Dodger blue to the ballpark.
Dodgers fans came out in droves for the opener, with a big pocket of supporters even holding a Dodgers flag in the left-field seats.
Things got even worse for Yankees fans when the opposing fans broke into a roll call of their own, borrowing the tradition from Yankees fans who call out the names of every New York player on the field in the first inning.

Mourinho demands Europa reaction after derby defeat
http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/c5014bc0977620af68cd6e5015d82b2430719485.jpg?fit=640%2C427
Paris (AFP) – Fresh from giving his players a rollicking Jose Mourinho’s focus turns from Manchester United’s derby defeat to European action with a tricky Europa League opener at in-form Feyenoord on Thursday.
It will be the Portuguese manager’s first game in the second-tier European competition since winning its predecessor the UEFA Cup with Porto in 2003 and he says he is taking it seriously.
Mourinho’s unbeaten start as United manager came to a stuttering stop Saturday as long-time nemesis Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City left Old Trafford with a 2-1 victory.
United can expect a tough Group A opener at Feyenoord, who are top of the Dutch league having won all five of their matches this season and have pedigree in the competition.
United’s Spanish attacking midfielder Juan Mata warned that after the disappointment of derby day there was “no time for mourning”.
“On Thursday we’re going to play the first game in the Europa League, away against Feyenoord, a classic in European football,” Mata said on his weekly blog.
“It’s going to be a very demanding debut in this competition,” he added of the road to the final in Stockholm next May.
Mourinho says that young attacking sensation Marcus Rashford will play after his impressive second-half cameo along with midfielder Ander Herrera on Saturday.
“He (Rashford) is going to play is the only thing I can say. I trust him completely and I know his future will be absolutely brilliant,” said the Portuguese, who was scathing of some of his players after the City defeat, particularly defender Eric Bailly.
English-Dutch clashes are always feisty affairs but United have beaten Feyenoord in both their previous meetings.
This time it will be more subdued — at least in the stands — with the capacity of the De Kuip stadium in Rotterdam halved to 26,000 following UEFA sanctions for crowd trouble against Roma earlier this year.
United fans, whose ticket allocation has been slashed to 1,400, have been advised by the club not to wear United colours and avoid areas of potential conflict.
Feyenoord manager Giovanni Van Bronckhorst said: “I’m confident that -– in spite of the measures the club has to take –- an atmosphere will be created again at De Kuip to ensure we, as a team, are able to perform at our very best in our home matches.”
Former United and Feyenoord striker Robin van Persie is set to play both clubs as his Fenerbahce side are also in Group A with the Turkish side taking on Zorya Luhansk of Ukraine in their opener.
Van Persie won the competition with boyhood club Feyenoord in 2002.
– Spanish domination –
Spanish clubs have won six of the last 10 Europa League titles with Sevilla, the reigning three-time champions, now playing in the elite Champions League.
Of the finalists in the Europa League over the last decade eight are from Spain, who this season will be represented by Athletic Bilbao, Celta Vigo and Villarreal.
Celta, struggling from five successive La Liga losses, travel to Standard Liege in Group G, which also includes Dutch giants Ajax and Greek club Panathinaikos.
Athletic Bilbao travel to Italian side Sassuolo in Group F, which includes Rapid Vienna of Austria and Belgium side KRC Genk. Villarreal host FC Zurich in Group L.
England’s second representative, Southampton, host Czech club Sparta Prague in Group K looking for their first win under new boss Claude Puel, with Inter Milan, three times winners, hosting Israeli club Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

NFL Week 2 Power Rankings: Steelers Climb After Opener; Colts, Rams Slide
http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/capture.jpg?fit=301%2C284
Opening weekend of the 2016 NFL season was rich with drama, as 11 of the 16 games were decided by seven points or fewer and four were decided by a single point.
Here’s a look at where each team stands in NESN.com’s NFL power rankings as we head into Week 2. (To see our Week 1 rankings, click here.)
1. New England Patriots (Week 1: 1): The kings stay the kings in these rankings after upsetting the Cardinals on the road in Jimmy Garoppolo’s first NFL start.
2. Arizona Cardinals (2): Despite what general manager Steve Keim might believe, Arizona’s loss to Garoppolo & Co., while surely disappointing, was not the end of the world. The Cards will be a tough out all season.
3. Pittsburgh Steelers (6): Playing without the suspended Le’Veon Bell, the Steelers shook off a slow start Monday night to trample the Redskins 38-16 behind 143 rushing yards by DeAngelo Williams. It was the second-largest margin of victory of any game on opening weekend.
4. Green Bay Packers (5): A touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers to Davante Adams in the final moments of the first half put the Packers ahead for good as they held off a pesky Jaguars squad in Week 1. Rodgers accounted for all three Green Bay touchdowns (two passing, one rushing) in a 27-23 win.
5. Seattle Seahawks (3): We won’t overreact to one game, but needing a last-minute touchdown to beat the Dolphins as 10 1/2-point favorites wasn’t how the Seahawks wanted to begin their season.
6. Carolina Panthers (4): The beatdown the Broncos put on Cam Newton bordered on unsettling. The Panthers’ franchise quarterback is a physical freak, but Carolina can’t have him taking those type of hits week in and week out.
7. Denver Broncos (9): Trevor Siemian looked … actually pretty good in his real taste of NFL action. If he can maintain that, the Broncos will climb this list in a hurry.
8. Cincinnati Bengals (7): Andy Dalton was sacked seven times but still managed to carve up the Jets’ defense to the tune of 366 passing yards, his highest total since Week 3 of last season.
9. Oakland Raiders (10): Twenty-two points in the fourth quarter, a gutsy two-point conversion and the tweet of the weekend? That’s enough to earn Oakland a one-spot bump.
10. Kansas City Chiefs (9): Like the Raiders did, the Chiefs fell into a massive hole early before staging a wild comeback. The AFC West rivals combined to score 45 points in the fourth quarter and overtime of their respective season openers.
11. Houston Texans (13): Quarterback Brock Osweiler, running back Lamar Miller and rookie receiver Will Fuller all looked solid against the woeful Bears.
12. New York Jets (11): The Jets only lost to the Bengals by one point, but A.J. Green’s demolition of Darrelle Revis has to concern Gang Green supporters.
.@ajgreen_18 when covered by Darrelle Revis today…very impressive. #CINvsNYJ pic.twitter.com/64edP0OuI6
— NFL (@NFL) September 11, 2016
13. Baltimore Ravens (15): Baltimore held old friend Rex Ryan and the Bills to a single score in a 13-7 win.
14. New York Giants (16): Eli Manning’s troops did just enough to beat the Tony Romo-less Cowboys.
15. Minnesota Vikings (14): Minnesota’s defense was ferocious in a win over Tennessee, but failing to score a single offensive touchdown would result in a loss against most NFL opponents.
16. Washington Redskins (12): The Redskins led the Steelers 6-0 20 minutes into their Monday night matchup. They were outscored 38-10 the rest of the way.
17. Jacksonville Jaguars (18): The Jags hung right with the Packers all game. They could surprise some people this season.
18. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (22): The Bucs’ climb up the rankings has begun after Jameis Winston’s four-touchdown performance against the Falcons.
19. Detroit Lions (21): Neither the Lions nor the Colts deserved to win their Week 1 matchup…
20. Indianapolis Colts (17): But Indy definitely deserved to lose after falling behind 21-3, rallying all the way back to take a 38-35 lead with less than a minute remaining and then immediately squandering it by allowing a game-winning field goal in the final seconds.
21. Buffalo Bills (19): Through one week, the Bills rank last in the NFL in yards and passing yards and second-to-last in points.
22. Atlanta Falcons (20): The Falcons just look destined for mediocrity this season.
23. Miami Dolphins (26): Kudos to Miami for hanging tough with Seattle. That front seven has the potential to be seriously disruptive this season.
24. Dallas Cowboys (23): C’mon, Terrance Williams. Just run out of bounds, man.
25. Chicago Bears (24): See: Falcons.
26. San Diego Chargers (27): We’re just going to leave this here:
27. San Francisco 49ers (30): The Chip Kelly era got off to a rollicking start Monday night, hence the slight rankings bump.
28. New Orleans Saints (28): Saints defense: Still bad.
29. Los Angeles Rams (24): Rams offense: Possibly even worse.
30. Philadelphia Eagles (31): Is Carson Wentz the real deal? He certainly looked like it in Week 1, albeit against the miserable Browns.
31. Tennessee Titans (29): Three turnovers and dearth of offense in the second half doomed the Titans against the Vikings.
32. Cleveland Browns (32): The Browns lost to the Eagles in an early-season Toilet Bowl, and their quarterback already is on injured reserve. So, business as usual in Cleveland.

Jeff Fisher said there were no excuses for the Rams" loss, but he found one anyway

That was some 7-9 B.S.
Carlos Hyde rumbles, 49ers defense dominates Rams. The second game of the Monday night doubleheader was nothing to see ... unless you"re a 49ers fan. They pitched the only shutout of the week, embarrassing the Rams 28-0.
New city, same Rams. It"s year five for Jeff Fisher at the helm, and the Rams are still bad. They can"t get out of their way when it comes to penalties (10 last night), the offense is putrid and uninspired and the coach says there are "no excuses" in the same sentence he offers up an excuse.
The last team to get shutout in Week 1? The St. Louis Rams.
Blaine Gabbert had nearly as many rushing yards as Todd Gurley. On fewer carries too. At least the Rams had 431 yards of punting!
Rams sticking with Keenum. Jared Goff must be really bad if they"re not willing to try someone else after that performance.
Kevin Harlan had an amazing call on the man running on the field during Monday Night Football. A fan, possibly drunk, ran on the field during the 49ers-Rams season opener. Kevin Harlan offered up spectacular play-by-play.
Rams’ Aaron Donald ejected after scuffling with a 49er and making contact with a ref. It"s got to be frustrating being one of the game"s best players stuck on a team that is never going anywhere near the playoffs.
KAEPERNICK"S RESPONSE
Colin Kaepernick responds to Trent Dilfer comments. Trent Dilfer had pointed comments about Colin Kaepernick’s decision to kneel during the National Anthem. Kaepernick responded after the 49ers Week 1 win.
Colin Kaepernick’s protest is working. The ugly internet comments aside, a lot of people are actually thinking about what Kap is saying about how minorities are treated in America.

STEELERS ROLL OVER WASHINGTON
Washington was a mess, and no match for the Steelers in 38-16 loss. Washington couldn’t get out of its own way, and the Steelers took advantage. For instance, Washington paid big money for Josh Norman, then let Antonio Brown demolish its second-best CB. Part of Washington"s problem was a schematic decision allowed Antonio Brown to feast on Bashaud Breeland while Josh Norman stood on the other side of the field.
Even Jay Gruden acknowledged that he got "outcoached." He added that there "could be merit" to the idea of letting Josh Norman cover a team"s best receiver. YA THINK???
Antonio Brown air thrusted 5 times, which was one too many to not get flagged. Five times was apparently too many.
Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier suffered a knee injury. He says he"s fine, but Steelers fans are watching this situation nervously.
DeAngelo Williams is still a beast. The Steelers leaned on Williams for 26 carries and six receptions, and they got 143 rushing yards, two touchdowns and another 28 yards receiving. Not bad!
DISCIPLINE COMING FOR HEADSHOTS ON CAM
Roger Goodell acknowledged that the refs "missed at least one" illegal hit on Cam Newton. He added that discipline was coming. Oh, but he"s not willing to use replay to review head shots like that.
Panthers defend their handling of Cam Newton after repeated headshots. Of course they did.
