WATCH: ‘Competitive Streak’ Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook Tribute Video
http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/watch-competitive-streak-kevin-d.jpg?fit=640%2C360
Los Angeles based R&B, soul artist Joey Dosik released an EP, “Game Winner”, June 24 and the video for the single “Competitive Streak” complements the emotions Thunder fans must be going through in the wake of Kevin Durant’s departure to the Golden State Warriors.
Dosik, a hoop head and Lakers fan, wrote and recorded the entire EP while rehabbing a torn ACL he suffered while playing ball in 2015.
You also may remember Dosik’s voice from this Kobe Bryant tribute video set to his EP’s title track that we ran the day of Kobe’s final game in a Lakers jersey.

Mets reportedly engaged in trade talks with Reds for Jay Bruce
http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/jay-bruce-cincinnati-reds-2.jpg?fit=600%2C460
The New York Mets are apparently trying to assemble a star-studded cast of characters in their outfield.
According to a report by Mark Sheldon of MLB.com on Saturday, the Mets are “very involved” in a pursuit of Reds right fielder Jay Bruce, though no trade appears to be imminent.
Source says Mets "very involved" in pursuing Jay Bruce. Unlike Lucroy for Brewers, Bruce is in #reds lineup tonight.
— Mark Sheldon (@m_sheldon) July 30, 2016
The three-time All-Star appears to have at least a fifth of the league on his tail this trade season, but the Mets definitely look like one of the more intriguing destinations. Pairing Bruce in right with Yoenis Cespedes in left and the Curtis Granderson-Michael Conforto duo in center would give the reigning National League champs arguably the deepest outfield squadron in all of baseball.
Bruce, 29, is also comfortable hitting cleanup and would give a big-time boost to the Mets provided that they can piece together the right package for him.

Scot McCloughan injures hand hitting wall in frustration after learning of injury
http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/scot-mccloughan.jpg?fit=600%2C364
The injuries to the Washington Redskins are having negative effects on the team beyond just the players who are hurt.
Washington GM Scot McCloughan actually injured his hand punching a wall in frustration after learning that first-round pick Josh Doctson had an Achilles’ tendon injury.
Former Washington TE Chris Cooley, who is a radio host, shared the story of McCloughan’s injury on ESPN 980.
“I said, ‘What happened to your hand?"” Cooley recalled on the radio, via the Richmond Times-Dispatch. “He said, when I found out about Doctson – which they thought was going to be much worse, the Doctson injury, apparently it isn’t going to be as bad – I punched the wall.”
You can see McCloughan’s bandaged hand in these photos:

— michael phillips (@michaelpRTD) July 29, 2016
Doctson injured himself in May but his injury isn’t supposed to be that bad. Though the former TCU receiver opened training camp on the physically unable to perform list, he is just day-to-day, which is much better than what McCloughan originally thought.
As for McCloughan, hopefully that hand injury goes away sooner than later.

Atletico Madrid crash to defeat in Australia
http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/c90dfb24cec8b81df24b52d3677e5e5ca35599eb.jpg?fit=640%2C385
Melbourne (AFP) – Spanish giants Atletico Madrid crashed to a 1-0 loss to A-League side Melbourne Victory on their Australian pre-season tour in Geelong on Sunday.
The European Champions League runners-up fell behind to a goal against the run of play shortly before half-time and were kept scoreless in the second half.
Defender Nick Ansell powerfully headed home off a free-kick from Tunisian Fahid Ben Khalfallah to rock Atletico in the 44th minute.
While manager Diego Simeone rung the changes in the second half his side could not find a way through the determined Victory defence.
It has been a heady 10 days for the twice A-League champions, who beat Italian champions Juventus on penalties in the International Champions Cup last week before claiming another high-profile scalp in Atletico Madrid.
Atletico Madrid, who lost this year’s Champions League final on penalties to cross-city rivals Real Madrid, won their first match in Australia against England’s Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in Melbourne last Friday.
There were several heavy challenges in Sunday’s game with a solid tackle by Uruguayan defender Emiliano Velazquez forcing Victory’s Mitch Austin off the field with a knee injury in the first half.
French defender Lucas Hernandez also limped away after a sliding tackle on Victory midfielder Oliver Bozanic in the second half.
Simeone made a triple substitution midway through the second half in an effort to recharge his team.
But Melbourne counterpart Kevin Muscat took off most of his leading players among six substitutions at one stage, leaving Victory with a largely youth side against the Spaniards in the final stages.
Atletico will return home on Tuesday and will next play Galatasaray in Turkey as part of their pre-season on August 6.

Future Forecast
http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/future-forecast.jpg?fit=640%2C360
It’s been 14 years since the Seattle Storm drafted Sue Bird with the number one overall pick. Coming out of UConn, Bird was the ultimate point guard, endlessly selfless, willing to lead. Two championships and 13 years later, the Storm drafted Jewell Loyd from Notre Dame, a certified bucket-getter at the guard position.
Loyd darts from sideline to sideline, hunting shots. Even back in the day, Bird’s athleticism, was, well, not great. What made Bird the greatest point guard in WNBA history was her mind, which is where Loyd is trying to get better.
“She’s taken me under her wing,” Loyd says about the nine-time All-Star. “If you just look at the way she carries herself, the way she handles her nutrition, takes care of her body. That’s stuff that we see every single day. The little things.”
The little things are starting to add up for Loyd. Sure, she easily took the 2015 ROY trophy and turned heads during her first year with her ability to fill up the box score. Her second campaign, however, has been even more noisy.
She’s averaging over 16 points a game, along with 3 assists and 3 rebounds. In her 24 games played so far this season, she’s had nine games with at least 20 points, including a 32-point destruction of Diana Taurasi and the Mercury. She lists D, along with Bird and Kobe Bryant, as her favorite players. And she used the lessons she learned from Taurasi against her.
“They’re assassins,” Loyd says about her three favorites. “That’s the mentality that I wanted and just loved watching. They never took the easy way out, they never settled. That’s something that I grew up with, competing. I was the only girl playing with the guys. That’s something that I understood very well, competing.”
Whether it’s competing against other WNBA teams or the National Team, there’s no way the Chi-Town product isn’t gonna show out.
She dropped a light 20 on the National Team last week, serving as a Young OG for a squad that wasn’t even supposed to put up a fight. But she led them to an 84-84 game with a minute left, before the Olympians finished with an 88-84 win. It’s just another reminder of how bright the future is for the kid that Bird calls “Gem.”
She’s got a spot on the 2020 Olympic team and along with Breanna Stewart, the Storm are gearing up for a lot more wins and a few more championships.
“We’re trying to enjoy the moment,” Loyd says when asked about her relationship with Stewie. “We’re still really young. We’re still trying to figure out our identities in the League. You wanna take things a step at a time and grow.”
Grow into a point guard, grow into a leader, grow into a 20-ppg scorer. Loyd came into the W with a frantic playing pace. When the ball was tipped, she would put her foot on the pedal, and wouldn’t let up until the final buzzer sounded. These days Loyd is picking and choosing where to use her speed, capitalizing on the knowledge she’s picked up from her Hall of Fame teammate about how to control all aspects of the game. And she’s still coming for people’s necks.
“I feel really at home,” she says. “You know your teammates a little better, you know your offense, you know personnel better. You have the belief in yourself. This year I wanna make a statement and compete at another level. That’s really my mindset.”

Michael Jordan, Chris Paul and Derek Fisher spent a whole afternoon disappointing children
http://i2.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/SAD_20KIDS.0.png?fit=640%2C426
Athletes giving things away to kids create some of the most heartwarming videos in sports. This week at Michael Jordan’s Flight School things went very, very wrong. Jordan was joined by Chris Paul and Derek Fisher to put on a shooting clinic for the kids and because it was Michael Jordan there were side bets.
Bet 1: If Chris Paul makes all his shots Jordan gives the kids shoes.
#Mj rules.. if CP3, makes all his shots... Shoes for the whole camp.. !#MjFlightSchool16
A video posted by COACH SPOON (@coachspoon2) on Jul 26, 2016 at 9:40pm PDT
Result: CP3 misses the last shot.
Bet 2: If Michael Jordan misses three of his shots he gives the kids shoes.
A video posted by COACH SPOON (@coachspoon2) on Jul 26, 2016 at 9:51pm PDT
Result: Jordan nails all of them.
Bet 3: If Derek Fisher his all his considerably easier shots then Jordan will give the kids shoes.
#MJ rules... if D.Fish hits these shots.. Shoes for the whole camp.. #MjFlightSchool16
A video posted by COACH SPOON (@coachspoon2) on Jul 26, 2016 at 9:52pm PDT
Result: He misses a free throw.
On three occasions kids were excited thinking they might get new shoes. On all three occasions they were let down. There is no evidence that Flight School attendees actually got shoes after the shooting contest. Hopefully they did, because their hopes and dreams kept getting crushed.

Robert Streb became the 28th player to record a record-tying 63 in a major championship on Friday, joining Phil Mickelson and Henrik Stenson.
Jimmy Walker and Robert Streb shared the lead heading into the third round of the PGA Championship at Baltusrol. Streb, who is ranked 74th in the world, has a chance to significantly increase his earnings with a win at the PGA Championship.
Here’s what you need to know about Streb’s career earnings, sponsorships and PGA Tour wins.
1. He Has Earned $ 6.3 Million on the PGA Tour
The 29-year-old golf pro has earned $ 6,368,237 in prize money on the PGA Tour, which ranks him 248th on the PGA Career Earnings List, according to Golfer Prize Money and Career Earnings.
Here’s a breakdown of his annual earnings:
2013– $ 454,871
2014– $ 1,300,075
2015– $ 3,947,424
2016– $ 665,867
Streb had five top-25 finishes in 25 starts during his first year on the Tour in 2013.
In 2015, he finished with nine top-10 PGA tournament finishes. Streb’s strong second-place finish in the PGA Tour’s Zurich Classic was a turning point in his career. That showing helped him earn $ 1.3 million during the 2013-2014 season.
Streb cites winning his first PGA Tour professional start, the 2015 McGladrey Classic, as his biggest thrill in golf, according to PGATour.com.
2. He Has Several Endorsement Deals
Very excited for my new partnership with @EmpowerToday ! Looking forward to #winningtogether https://t.co/lo7DaRyDkh pic.twitter.com/oU0wq4EkHP

Streb most recently gained Empower as a sponsor in January 2016. Along with promotion of the Empower brand, he participates in various engagement opportunities with Empower clients and partners.
3. He Has Earned $ 323,815 on the Web.com Tour
Robert Streb won the Mylan Classic for his first Web.com Tour title in 2012, closing with a 7-under 64 for a four-stroke victory.
His victory at the Mylan Classic vaulted him to a 7th place finish on the Web.com money list, ultimately gaining him PGA Tour status for 2013.
Streb earned $ 305,591 in 2012, and $ 13,167 in 2013.
4. Streb Was Named All-American at Kansas State
Streb was born in 1987 in Chickasha, Oklahoma and went on to play golf at Kansas State. Streb qualified for the NCAA tournament as a freshman, and earned honorable mention All-American status as a senior.
In college, Streb got to know PGA Tour star Jim Colbert while he was roommates with Colbert’s grandson, Curtis Yonke, according to The Kansas City Star.
Colbert, who is a Kansas State alum, told the paper he is proud of the way Streb has developed in his professional career.
“He’s got a really good mentality for pro golf,” Colbert said. “He never gets too high or too low. You play so much in the PGA Tour now, you are going to have bad weeks. You have to deal with the hard times, and Robert is really good at that.”
5. A PGA Championship Win Would Boost His Earnings & Ranking
Streb enters Saturday’s third round with a chance to solidify his place at the top of the leaderboard. The PGA Championship provides a big opportunity for him to increase his earnings, and ranking.
The winner of this year’s PGA Championship at Baltusrol will take home $ 1.8 million in prize money. Last week, Streb claimed $ 34,220 with a T32 finish in this year’s RBC Canadian Open.
A victory would mark Streb’s second PGA Tour win.

This Prophetic Olympian Sent Out A Tweet That Predicted Her Own Future Five Years Ago
http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/morolake-akinosun.jpg?fit=640%2C355
Every athlete dreams of making it to the Olympics some day. It’s a lifelong goal, something that most people strive towards from the time that they’re a kid.
Plenty of Olympic hopefuls will do things to motivate themselves to one day get to the grandest stage in sports. You’ll hear these stories during the Olympics every year, and at Rio 2016, you’re going to hear the story of Morolake Akinosun over and over. Back in 2011, Akinosun tweeted this:
In 2016 I will be 22, graduated from a school I have not chosen yet, and going to the olympics (:
— Morolake Akinosun™ (@MsFastTwitch) July 28, 2011
For someone who is 17, this is a really ambitious set of goals. For most people, your No. 1 goal when you’re 17 is to pass a high school trigonometry exam, but for Akinosun, it was to graduate from college and make it onto the U.S. Olympic Track and Field team.
Well, let’s fast forward to Saturday afternoon. It’s been five years since Akinosun sent her original tweet, and she decided to let everyone know that she called her shot.
I tweeted that 5 years ago.
It"s 2016.
I graduate from Texas in December.
I"m going to the Olympics next week. https://t.co/vusyh5G5Y3
— Morolake Akinosun™ (@MsFastTwitch) July 30, 2016
That’s right, Akinosun is one of the best sprinters in the United States. She competed at the 2016 NCAA Track and Field Championships earlier this year for the University of Texas and recorded top-4 finishes in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and 4×400 meter relay. Additionally, she competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials and earned a spot on the team that’s heading down to Rio a little later in this month in the 4×100 meter relay pool. While it’s not guaranteed that she’ll compete, she still earned the opportunity to head down, which is amazing.
This is normally the spot where someone would say that Akinosun should try playing the lottery next, but in all seriousness, this is quite the accomplishment. Back when she was a teenager, she strived to get a degree and make it to the 2016 Olympics. While she’s going to have to wait a few months for the first thing, Akinosun has accomplished the second thing, and it’s really admirable that she set goals, worked hard, and eventually achieved them.

UFC 201 Predictions: Will Robbie Lawler Retain His Title In Atlanta?
http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/ufc-201-lawler-v-woodley.jpg?fit=640%2C360
Well hello, fight fans. UFC 201 is here, and while there have been some card shuffling, I think there’s still a pretty solid night of fights, ending with a welterweight title fight, and those have been pretty great recently. The prelims start at 6:30 p.m. ET, so let’s see the main card predictions.
2016 Important Results:
Jessica: 137-105-4 (57 percent)
Burnsy: 99-101-3 (49 percent)
Ryan: 5-1 (83 percent)
Jason: 45-36-1 (55 percent)
Bill: 24-11 (69 percent)
Jared: 16-13 (55 percent)
Jackman: 7-5 (58 percent)
Enrique: 7-5 (58 percent)
Jamie: 16-13-1 (55 percent)
Justin: 13-4 (76 percent)
Marty: 20-12-1 (62 percent)
Parker: 3-4 (43 percent)
Team Davis: 72-52-3 (58 percent)
Flyweight – Ian “Uncle Creepy” McCall vs Justin “Tank” Scoggins
Jessica: Oh dip, this should be a fun fight. McCall might have a slight edge across the board, but he sometimes doesn’t put in a complete performance. Scoggins is scrambley and very active, and I think his pace will get the better of McCall. Justin’s also got good range on Ian, and I think that combination will let him take over in later rounds. Scoggins wins by suuuuper late third round TKO.
Jared: The Uncle Creepy who put the boots to Demetrious Johnson is long gone, folks, and all that’s left is some creepy-looking hipster who lives with his parents and listens to boy bands “for the laughs.” The minute any fighter starts talking about retirement is the minute I stop picking them to win, and McCall’s been doing that for about three years now. Scoggins.
Jason: Man, I just don’t know what to make of Uncle Creepy anymore. He’s had four fights in the last four years after coming into the UFC hyped (appropriately) as one of the world’s top flyweights. He was seconds away from beating Mighty Mouse before the fight went to a draw, but has yet to really beat anyone of note in the UFC. Maybe a dehydrated Brad Pickett? I don’t know. I guess I’m picking him to win, but I don’t like it. I think Bill’s science is sound.
Bill: I’m picking against Uncle Creepy just because his nickname is Uncle Creepy, which is too close to Uncle Deadly, who is one of my favorite Muppets and the subject of my only Muppet-related tattoo to date. We don’t need that sort of confusion in the Uncle marketplace.
Burnsy: I’m always an Uncle Creepy fan, so I won’t pick against him to open the big show with a W.
NOTE: Scoggins couldn’t make weight so this bout is off. Dang it!
Bantamweight – Francisco “Cisco” Rivera vs Erik “Goyito” Perez
Jessica: Perez is okay, but I don’t think his wins are that impressive. Rivera is in a similar boat, and he’s got more losses, but those are mostly to top notch guys in the division. Plus, Rivera has really good striking. I’m going to say that Perez catches these hands. Rivera wins by second round KO.
Jared: Francisco may have had a rough run of things lately, but I’ll be damned if I pick against the guy who was one-half of the craziest exchange in UFC bantamweight history. WAR CISCO!
Jason: This is a fun fight where anything can happen, and I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if Rivera wins, but I’m going to go with Perez.
Bill: I don’t know a whole lot about either of these guys, so I yield to Jessica’s expertise, because she’s right 57 percent of the time, which in MMA is close to perfect.
Burnsy: I can’t say I know who these guys are, so here’s some scientific analysis for you — back in my swinging bachelor days, my JDate user name was Goy Toy, so I’ll take Goyito. BOOM take THAT, MMA journalists.
Suzanne: John Lineker vs. Francisco Rivera still gives me feelings that I have yet to come to terms with. I’m getting the feeling that maybe I’ve overvalued Rivera. He’s slowly working his way to that list of fighters that I wish were better, but they’re just not. Erik Perez has been a good win-loss-win-loss fighter that is probably most recognized for getting fish-hooked by Bryan Caraway. This bout feels like a coin flip, so I’m literally flipping a coin. Francisco Rivera, decision.
Welterweight – Matt “The Immortal” Brown vs Jake “The Juggernaut” Ellenberger
Jessica: A few years ago, Ellenberger probably would have been more of a threat to Brown. Now, I don’t think Jake’s got much left in the chin department. He’ll have to look for takedowns, but that just kinda puts his head in Matt’s clinch range, which is THREAT ZONE ALPHA. Brown is gonna Muay Thai Ellenberger’s face to bits. Brown wins by second round TKO.
Jared: Matt Brown by murder.
Jason: Elbows are going to be thrown, blood will be spilled, and Jake Ellenberger will get his second win in the last three years. Oh, and can we just agree that Robbie Lawler took the souls of both of these men?
Bill: Matt Brown is going to take this one, for sure. I’m thinking second round submission.
Burnsy: The Immortal one takes this and gets back into the title hunt, but that’s a tall order considering welterweight is still jam-packed with talent.
Suzanne: Could Jake Ellenberger beat Matt Brown? Sure. Matt Brown’s liver is like a Legend of Zelda boss; it flashes so you know know when to hit it. The moment they announced this fight, I tweeted, “Oh my lord, Matt Brown going to kill the death out of Jake Ellenberger.” I’m sticking with that. Matt Brown KO/TKO, round 2.
Strawweight – “Thug” Rose Namajunas vs Karolina Kowalciewicz
Jessica: Karolina’s got good striking and whatnot, but I just don’t know if she’ll be able to deal with Thug Rose and her solid mix of kickboxing and submissions. If Rose can turn up the intensity, I think Kowalkiewicz will make a mistake and get tapped. Rose wins by first round submission.
Jared: This fight is a real no win scenario for me. Thug Rose was one of the only fighters ever brave enough to don the CP logo (and we only had to pay her money to do it!) and Karolina Kowaiapkljxzc is one of the most adorable people to ever break faces for a living. That being said, Thug Rose 2.0 has destroyed something beautiful before and will likely do it again come Saturday night. I can only hope that Kowlkjklzxcklkjkjzx is able to come out the other side with her pride and her cheekbones intact.
Jason: I’ll never pick against Thug Rose. Ever. She’s the MMA version of ’11’ from Stranger Things.
Bill: THUG ROSE. Karolina doesn’t even have a nickname. That should tell you all you need to know, people.
Burnsy: Thug Rose all day, every day.
Suzanne: Since losing to Carla Esparza on the TUF 20 Finale, Rose Namajunas has been on a hot streak and seems to be putting her game together. However, having to fight herself mentally before engaging her physical opponent has made her a slow, nervous starter. Her past three fights have shown her dealing with that struggle, but now she’s in the co-main event with a lot more on her shoulders. Karolina Kowalkiewicz wins the first via wink and Rose wins the rest of the fight. Rose Namajunas, decision.
Welterweight Title – “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler vs Tyron “T-Wood” Woodley
Jessica: I really don’t think Woodley should even be in this fight, but it’s not like I’ve ever been consulted about what UFC should do regarding matchmaking before, so I’ll just let that go. I think Robbie will defend against Tyron’s takedowns, roll with the punches and land some big shots of his own. Please, momma Woodley, don’t scream so loud as your baby boy is going down. Lawler wins by second round KO.
Jared:I hate hate HATE this matchup, you guys, and mostly because it seems perfectly
suited to end Lawler’s incredibly entertaining title run in the least entertaining imaginable. “Ruthless” is the Sultan of Swingin Them Bungalows, the King of KO’s, the Colossus of Crushing Your Damn Face Into a Thousand Pieces, and you’re gonna let Woodley go out there and lay an egg on him for five rounds when he hasn’t won a fight in close to two years and even that fight was a split decision over Kevin “Extra Gravy Please” GastelumGAHHH WHY IS THIS FIGHT EVEN HAPPENING. I’m gonna place my faith in Fifth Round Lawler to pull out the win here, and I’m probably going to pray harder than I’ve ever prayed before that he can shuck off Woodley’s takedowns long enough to blast him into the NetherRealm, but in the back of my mind I’m already preparing for the worst four words I have ever put onto paper: Tyron Woodley, Welterweight Champion.
Jason: I’m with you, Jared! I hate this fight. Hate it, hate it, hate it. Woodley is a fine fighter, but I just don’t think he deserves a title shot. The only reason he got it was because he was as loud as his mom in angling for it. I swear to god if he lays and prays Lawler to a decision… Ugh! Lawler’s resurgence has been one of the greatest stories of the last few years, and it seems like few good stories end with anything but a wet fart when it comes to MMA. Tyron Woodley is going to take the decision from Lawler, and it’s all going to be a wet fart. I hate life. Please prove me wrong, Robbie. Please… I pick Woodley because I’m stupid. Whatever.
Bill: Robbie Lawler is going to eat some lunch, for sure. Woodley’s lunch. It’s a big bag of wood. And Robbie is going to eat it.
Burnsy: Woodley and I are both Missouri men, fans of the St. Louis Cardinals, too, which means that we’re classier and more intelligent than other baseball fans. I am going to pick Woodley to fight and win the Cardinal way — by benefiting from the other guy’s mistakes, getting ridiculously lucky when it matters most, and getting some really lucky calls at the expense of his opponent. Also, he’ll be gritty and scrappy.
Suzanne: Every second of Bobby Lawler’s 2nd UFC run has been fun to watch. Right up there with Sea Level Cain and Motivated BJ Penn, 5th Round Lawler is a thing of horrifying violence.
In contrast, outside of the Josh Koscheck and Jay Hieron knockouts, Tyron Woodley has been more boring than watching someone watch paint dry. I mean, he got outstruck 132-97 by Jake Shields. JAKE SHIELDS! If there’s anyone that can make a Lawler fight nearly unwatchable, it’s Tyron Woodley.
All week, I’ve had a nagging voice telling me to pick Woodley. Over the past couple of years, Robbie has taken a lot of damage and fought a lot of rounds. Surely it’s catching up, right? But, I just can’t. So, for the sake of everyone watching, I’m picking and hoping that Cthulhu’s blood-letter takes this one home. Robert Glenn Lawler by TKO, late fourth.
Performance of the Night
Jessica: Krylov, Namajunas
Jason: Lawler, Namajunas
Bill: Brown, Namajunas
Burnsy: Brown, Woodley
Jared: Namajunas, Brown
Fight of the Night
Jessica: McCall vs. Scoggins UH, I MEAN PEARSON VS MASVIDAL

Walker has never won a major tournament, but has 3 top 10 finishes in 18 starts. Again, 2014 proved to be Walker’s finest season to date. He finished tied for 8th in the Masters, tied for 9th in the U.S. Open, tied for 26th at the Open Championship and tied for 7th in the PGA Championship — all career-best finishes.
The 2004 Nationwide Tour Player of the Year was also a member of the 2014 Ryder Cup team and 2015 Presidents Cup squad. Walker accounted for 2.5 points during the Ryder Cup, a 16.5 to 11.5 victory by Europe over the U.S. Walker won his Sunday’s singles match 3 & 2 over Lee Westwood.

Report: Rangers, White Sox have had discussions about Jose Quintana
http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/jose-quintana-white-sox.jpg?fit=600%2C438
The Texas Rangers’ mission to bolster their starting rotation continues to be quite far-reaching.
According to a report by Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports on Saturday, the Rangers have had discussions with the Chicago White Sox about All-Star lefty Jose Quintana in addition to their previously reported interest in Chris Sale. Talks did not progress very far, however, thanks to differences in perceived trade value.
Sources: #Rangers have talked to #WhiteSox about Quintana as well as Sale. Same story: No traction due to differences in perceived value.
— Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) July 30, 2016
The 27-year-old Quintana is 8-8 this year with a 2.89 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP, and 125 strikeouts in 21 starts. A dependable arm with excellent control, Quintana has also been pursued by the Boston Red Sox in recent days. He is under contract through at least the 2018 season.
The Rangers could use a third quality left-hander to go along with Cole Hamels and Martin Perez. They seem willing to explore all avenues possible in order to upgrade their pitching staff, so it would be a surprise to see them let the trade deadline go by without swinging at least one deal for rotation depth.

Andre Johnson agrees to two-year deal with Titans
http://i0.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/Andre-Johnson-1.jpg?fit=573%2C358
Andre Johnson’s AFC South tour is nearly complete.
According to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN on Friday, Johnson has agreed to a two-year deal with the Tennessee Titans, who will help absorb some of the money he is still owed by the Indianapolis Colts.
Tennessee Titans are signing WR Andre Johnson, per source.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) July 29, 2016
Titans gave WR Andre Johnson a two-year deal, per source. Colts owed him $ 2.5M this season, but with offset, Titans now will absorb some.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) July 29, 2016
Johnson, 35, appeared in all 16 games for Indianapolis last season, registering 503 receiving yards and four touchdowns. The seven-time Pro Bowler used to be one of the top wideouts in football but has struggled in recent years with route running and drops (perhaps due in part to age) and was featured sparsely in the Colts offense as a result. Johnson shut down some retirement rumors this offseason and worked out for Tennessee earlier this week.
The ex-Houston Texan will hopefully be another weapon for Marcus Mariota alongside Harry Douglas, Dorial Beckham-Green, Kendall Wright, and fellow newcomer Rishard Matthews, but there just doesn’t appear to be much upside left for the declining Johnson.

DeAndre Hopkins roster bonus puts holdout in question
http://i1.wp.com/www.truesportsfan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/deandre-hopkins.jpg?fit=600%2C364
Veterans were scheduled to arrive at Houston Texans training camp at midnight, but DeAndre Hopkins did not report. That’s because the talented wide receiver is unhappy with his current contract and holding out for a new one.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Tania Ganguli report the news about Hopkins and say the receiver actually showed up at camp Friday but took some belongings from his locker and did not officially report.
Drafted in the first round in 2013, Hopkins is under contract with the Texans for two more seasons after the team picked up his 2017 option. He is set to earn around $ 9.3 million over the next two seasons.
Hopkins caught 111 passes for 1,521 yards and 11 touchdowns last season — numbers that compare favorably to any receiver in the league. The year before he had 76 catches for 1,210 yards and six touchdowns. He has a very good argument for being deserving of more money and is using the holdout as leverage to get it.
But one thing that could complicate his holdout is the roster bonus he is due. Hopkins is only set to make $ 1 million this season. He is facing fines of $ 40,000 a day during his holdout. His roster bonus is for $ 445,000 — almost half of his season’s salary — and that will only be paid if he is on the roster on Wednesday. Because of his holdout, the Texans could put Hopkins on the reserve/did not report list. That means Hopkins’ holdout is facing a serious deadline.

Messi quiet but Barcelona stroll past Celtic

Dublin (AFP) – A blond-haired Lionel Messi failed to get on the scoresheet but it hardly mattered as under-strength Barcelona taught Celtic a footballing lesson in a Dublin friendly on Saturday.
Strikes by Arda Turan and Munir El Haddadi, and an own goal by Efe Ambrose — all before the break — were enough to earn a 3-1 victory for Luis Garcia’s men in what was their first game back after the summer.
Leigh Griffiths had replied to Turan’s opener, but boss Brendan Rodgers will be concerned with how vulnerable his defence looked once again, ahead of Celtic’s crucial Champions League third qualifying round clash with Astana on Wednesday.
The tie is delicately balanced at 1-1 ahead of the second leg at Parkhead.
Barcelona came to Dublin without Andres Iniesta, Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquets, Javier Mascherano, Claudio Bravo and Jordi Alba, who aren’t back in training until tomorrow, while Neymar is preparing for the Olympics in Brazil.
But there was more than a sprinkling of quality with Messi and Luis Suarez bringing enough star power to help fill over 47,000 seats at Lansdowne Road.
Rodgers made four changes to the side that drew at Astana last Wednesday, but new signing Kolo Toure did not travel.
Things had looked good for Celtic early on and they almost opened the scoring after just 13 seconds when Patrick Roberts capitalised on a Jeremy Mathieu slip, cut inside -– Messi-style -– but sent his curling effort inches wide of Jordi Masip’s goal.
With Roberts a constant threat, Celtic had the bulk of the early chances, but when the opening goal came it was from the Spanish champions, Turan firing home powerfully from the edge of the box.
Roberts continued to get the fans on their feet, delivering some of the slalom runs many would have come to see Messi perform.
But when Celtic scored the assist came from a Barcelona error, handing Griffiths a tap-in from five yards out.
Ambrose and keeper Craig Gordon then conspired to concede a howler, with the centre-half stretching to intercept a harmless cross and sending it beyond the hapless Gordon.
Barcelona added a third before the break as Celtic’s defence collapsed again, with Suarez nipping behind all too easily, before nutmegging Ambrose and squaring to Munir, who was all alone to slot home.
Both sides swapped their entire starting 11s as the second half passed, with a quiet Messi — sporting his new peroxide blond hair — going off at the break.

Celtic’s Rodgers upbeat despite Barcelona defeat

Dublin (AFP) – Brendan Rodgers remains optimistic about Celtic’s Champions League hopes even after seeing his side beaten 3-1 by Spanish giants Barcelona in a Dublin friendly.
Luis Enrique’s side scored three first-half goals through Arda Turan, Munir El Haddadi and an Efe Ambrose own-goal, to cancel out Leigh Griffiths’s 29th-minute strike.
Rodgers had one eye on Wednesday’s Champions League third qualifying round second leg tie with Astana at Celtic Park, and despite some poor defensive play, expressed his happiness with what was a challenging 90 minutes against the La Liga champions.
“It was an excellent workout, it’s always a great education when playing Barcelona in terms of how they play, but I was really proud of the players coming back off a long trip during the week,” said Rodgers, whose side were held to a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Kazakhstan.
“They had one day to recover and then out there to face a team who test you and your organisation.
“I thought we were good in terms of some of our pressing, our goal comes from our ability to press and be up the field. I thought we had some really good passages of play.
“Our only negative was the injury to Nir Bitton, it looks a nasty one but we’ll assess that over the next 24 hours,” the Northern Irishman added.
– ‘Unlucky’ Ambrose –
Former Liverpool manager Rodgers revealed he was looking to sign four more players during the transfer window, and following another slip-up by Ambrose, the Nigerian international defender, defence will be an area he is keen to strengthen.
The Celtic boss refused to confirm or deny a possible move for Manchester United youngster Paddy McNair, but gave his support to Ambrose, whose substitution appeared to be cheered by some Celtic fans.
“I think he’s an unlucky guy, bless him,” Rodgers said.
“I think a striker would have been proud of that goal. He was so unfortunate. The ball is whipped in, there is no real danger and for it to come off his leg that far outside the post and to go in the far corner is disappointing, especially after us getting back into the game as well.
“Look, sometimes these things happen, but overall he did okay.”
Aston Villa midfielder Scott Sinclair could yet join the Rodgers revolution, following Moussa Dembele and Kolo Toure, who have already signed for Celtic.
Rodgers said saw plenty of positives in the 3-1 defeat, but accepted the side had plenty of work ahead of them.
“We’re still a long way away from where I want to be, but what I can’t deny is the mental fitness of the players, and physically how they’re pushing themselves, we showed some good moments in the game in terms of where we want to be, but the reality is other players will be coming in, and obviously we’ll have more work on the training ground,” he said.
Meanwhile Barcelona manager Enrique was pleased with his side’s first pre-season game, with 20 players getting a run out.
“It was great to be back, to have the team back, quite happy with a good result, we played a good game,” he said.
“It was a good test. Celtic have a second game in the Champions League to come, and they are working hard under the new coach.”
Enrique had special praise for Hoops winger Patrick Roberts, who models his game on Lionel Messi.
“He’s a great player, he has a great future in the team, he has great quality and I think he can bring good things to the team,” Enrique said.
